It would hold up fairly well because most of those items are items you could consider using as a lvl70 regardless, you'd just be lacking stat points here and there on some of them because of the lower ilvl. The trinkets would definitely need replacing, as would the cloak. Incendiary Ammo...

It's more of a tradition thing and a lot of people who play the bracket enjoy the PvE side of things as well.

I want to point out that should you choose 70-79, you're effectively choosing 70. 79s tend to not be invited to anything and there are too few of them to have events of their own.
