Hello and welcome to a brief guide on weapons, or well mainly weapon speed. With the item level scaling that got introduced with Legion weapon speed got a heavy impact on damage output from melee classes. I decided to make this guide since there seems to be a lot of people who go for a weapon with high item level and gets punished with weaker attacks.
Feral and Guardian druids and monks does NOT benefit from weapon speed, just get what gives you the most item level on druids.

I am going to list weapons of interest, starting with low level and going up from there, there will be a short note on how to obtain each and wich classes that can get them.

Ranged will be listed below the melee weapons!

http://www.wowhead.com/item=20837/sunstrider-axe
This is one of the slowest 1-handed weapons in the game, and as of patch 7.0 it is only obtainable by blood elf dks. You get it from http://www.wowhead.com/quest=8334/aggression in the blood elf starting area.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=18957/brushwood-blade
1-handed sword obtained from http://www.wowhead.com/quest=2561/druid-of-the-claw in the night elf starting zone. Best used as main hand up to level 29.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=133693/jagged-wing-slasher
This dagger is the best main hand weapon for dagger using rogues. You can get it from http://www.wowhead.com/quest=835/securing-the-lines at level 7 in Durotar and this quest can be completed by Alliance characters awell. Dont be fooled by wowheads link to the weapon from the quest, it IS a dagger not a sword.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=1727/sword-of-decay
An farmable BoE zone drop in Razorfen Kraul. This 1-handed sword requiers level 30 and is best used for Outlaw rogues with a swing speed of 3.4.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=6327/the-pacifier
2-handed mace with a brutal 4.0 attack speed. Warriors and paladins best friend. Requiers level 32 and is dropped by http://www.wowhead.com/npc=2453/logrosh a rare mob in Hillsbrad Foothills.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=12621/demonfork
1-handed axe dropped by the rare mob http://www.wowhead.com/npc=9596 in Lower Blackrock Spire. Requiers level 55 and has the same speed as http://www.wowhead.com/item=1727/sword-of-decay but is easier to farm.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=13285/the-blackrock-slicer
Another 2-hander with 4.0 attack speed but requiers level 55. Dropped by http://www.wowhead.com/npc=9218/spirestone-battle-lord a rare mob in Lower Blackrock Spire.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=43601/brunnhildar-great-axe
One more 2-hander with 4.0 attack speed. Requiers level 75 and is sold by http://www.wowhead.com/npc=30006 in Storm Peaks. Very easy to obtain.

Ranged
(Ty Swoops for giving info on these)

Gun from BG loot boxes (waiting for wowhead to provide links...)
With a 3.0 speed this ties with http://www.wowhead.com/item=88264/houndmasters-compound-crossbow for best option up to level 50.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=88264/houndmasters-compound-crossbow
Crossbow dropped by http://www.wowhead.com/npc=59303 in Scarlet Halls. Requiers level 28 and has same attack speed as the gun looted from BG crates at 3.0.

http://www.wowhead.com/item=19107/bloodseeker
At level 51 you can obtain this crossbow with 3.1 attack speed. You can obtain it by doing http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=7142 / http://www.wowhead.com/quest=7141/the-battle-of-alterac
wich then gives http://www.wowhead.com/quest=8272 / http://www.wowhead.com/quest=8271

http://www.wowhead.com/item=19361/ashjrethul-crossbow-of-smiting
At level 60 you can get this badboy, the slowest ranged weapon in the entire game, sitting at 3.4 attack speed. It is a drop from http://www.wowhead.com/npc=14020 in Blackwing Lair.

I hope this little guide helped in some way, and if I missed an weapon please let me know so I can update it.

As an ending note, this is not tested on all brackets, classes or speccs. This is a general theory and further down into the expansion we will problably find out if it is correct or not.

If you wanted to add ranged for hunters:

Steelarrow Crossbow is gone but BoE - the pipe dream for 29-59 at 3.4 speed.
Steelarrow Crossbow

I think the BG loot box gun is the best below 51 at 3.0 speed. At 28 you can also get Houndmaster's Compound Crossbow from Scarlet Halls.
51-59 can get 3.3 speed with Bloodseeker (I think that quest is still around, haven't tried it in awhile)
60+ can get a bow from Chromaggus at 3.4 speed: Ashjrethul Crossbow of Smiting

Monks also have the same weapon speed normalization as feral druids, so you don't have to worry about slow weapons for them. Their abilities are calculated based on weapon DPS.

Brilliant guide I was just looking for something like this to confirm it's true before I get invested in 2x sword of decay. Anyone got any idea just how much a difference they will make?

edit: anyone know the speed of a 1h blue box sword?

http://www.wowhead.com/item=12247 best MH dagger available for alliance

tried the 3.00 sword along with two other 2.90 weapons in both 19 and 29 brackets and they are not better than heirloom

a guildmate managed to get the sunstrider axe from a GM
im on my second ticket right now, its not easy trick them

http://www.wowhead.com/quest=835/securing-the-lines#comments can be completed by alliance as well. As for 2.9 vs 3.0 speed, all attacks wont give you a dmg boost, look at the tooltips with different weapons equiped. Might add that this isent 100% tested on all classes, speccs or brackets.

Alright this is what I've found so far. Might be completely insane, looking for more testers.

MH: This is everything. It pulls your speed and assesses a damage range template based on that speed for that bracket, not what's actually on the weapon.

OH: For things like Mut, the OH hit of Mut is not dependent on the OH weapon at all. It's 50% of your MH hit. Which is just a crazy way to do things. I switched my MH and my OH mut went way down.

This was my test:
1 BG per test (not a huge sample size)
All numbers are average, non-crit
Scout's Blade OH for each test

2.6 MH gray dagger
415 mut
215 OH mut
96 melee

2.0 MH (Talon of Vultros)
338 mut
169 OH mut
71 melee

So my guess at BiS would be gray dagger and fastest OH you can find (since it's not used for yellows and would just get you back on your MH faster). I suspect it's calculated the same for things like Fury warrior and Wild Strike, but would like to see. I tried to attack similar targets, obv 29s are going to have more armor and affect this info. But this is what I've found.

Thoughts?

ok, I was thinking of having http://www.wowhead.com/item=133694/rangers-notched-dirk in OH, but maby it is a bad idea

Tested fury on my 79 warr, http://www.wowhead.com/spell=85288/raging-blow works like http://www.wowhead.com/spell=1329/mutilate and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=100130/furious-slash as well, so go for item level or a fast weapon in OH I guess

@AlbinoCow
Yes, after extensive testing i saw this for mutilate damage as well. Tooltip damage changes but actual damage does not. MH is all that matters from the things i have tested

Brushwood Blade might seem to increase your damage in the character pane, and on spell tooltips. However, this is not the case. You do better damage with x2 ilvl 27 weapons from crates as Outlaw. So best option for alliance so far is simply having those 2 27 ilvl swords/axes. I've tested this in 2 BG's and 1 arena.

The quest doesn't take much effort to complete, so it could be worth getting just for the sake of it, and test it for yourselves.

As for daggers, I haven't tested anything specific yet.

What do we think about slow MH onehande/fast OH onehander vs slow MH onehander/ slow OH onehander vs slow MH onehander/fast OH dagger for outlaw.

From experience, the best you can get as outlaw is the 3.5 speed main-hand, and since there is no equivalent, the best offhand will be the weapon from the BG crate. As to having a fast offhand, I haven't really tested it 100%, but I wouldn't imagine there'd be any benefits to it. This is just what I've heard from other rogues. I haven't tested the fast offhand myself.

As for assassination, you can get slow main-hand dagger and offhand dagger for mutilate, there are horde quest daggers with pretty slow speeds. And I would recommend to go for slow weapons both in main-hand and off-hand if possible for those fat mutilate crits and overall damage towards the ability. However, assassination doesn't seem too viable unless you are UD with the extra damage from TotG though. The damage is incredibly low, and there is some issues with the y-axis when shadowstepping in instanced pvp. The spec is still fun for PuGs nonetheless.

Didn't @AlbinoCow and @Hashbrowns just state that they found that muti dmg is only based on your MH?

And what is the 3.5 speed MH?
