EU Information on European Cup

Blackout

Greatest of all Time
The previous organizers have stated that he/they no longer wish to be the organizer(s) of the up and coming EU version of the "Twink Cup", Myself and ßlackout have spoken about this and agreed that we are willing to take this challenge on and do our best to be able to host the amazing and first ever tournament cup on EU.

After some discussion we have decided it is the right time for us to begin recruiting a board of administrators.

You must be able to:

  • Handle Small, Medium and Large amounts of responsibility.
  • Be able to meet targets and deadlines that will be set for you, or that you set for yourself.
  • Be punctual
  • Be able to attend weekly voice conferences to discuss various topics.
  • Be selfless, community benefit orientated and mature at all times.

If you think that you have what it takes to be an administrator in this years cup we are accepting applications from people, which you should post below or if you feel that you do not want your application to be viewed publicly you can privately message Myself or ßlackout your application.

AN OFFICIAL THREAD WILL BE POSTED AT A LATER STAGE WITH THE FULL DETAILS OF THE CUP FORMAT AND RULES.

We will be promoting the EU tournament with a different identity than that of the US's. The name for the tournament is yet undecided, however the name of the tournament will be announced in the Official Thread of the tournament.

Here is the template for the application form that we would like you to fill out:

Real (First) Name:
Alias that people refer to you by the most:
Age:
Are you fluent in speaking and understanding English?
Do you have a strong accent?

What is your experience in the locked exp bracket?
Do you have any previous experience or involvement with tournament management? If so, which tournament was it and what was your role?
Do you have any experience with marketing and marketing techniques?

Tell us what it is that you think you can offer us that can benefit the tournament? (Skill sets, experience, communication skills, problem solving skills, punctuality, reliability, responsible? etc).
What is it that will motivate you to want to work hard through the easy and the tough times that will present itself over the course of the preparations in the upcoming months?

NOTE: If we consider your application we will send you a private message requesting your Skype and/or Curse Voice details so we can ask some further questions. The interview will be very casual and you will be assessed on more than just your answers.

Applications are not for EU players exclusively. We are welcoming people from all regions (US, AUS, KR, RUS) to come and get involved with the development of tournament.

I stickied this for you, so if you could keep this thread updated as developments happen, it could serve as the go-to place for people to receive updates.

I am not sure what this will be. Will this be the Cup amongst friends or are EU players finally going to start promoting our play style on the EU official forums? Sure there is this thread on 2 parts of the official forum.. but none of it shows activity like for example the players do on the US forums. Wow players do not get interested by just one announcement thread that doesn't show activity nor times that players can hop into this action on a regular base. How will people get interested?

Lets talk a little then about the estimated participants.. how many are there and how many guilds do you expect to enter the EU cup? Are there regular games right now on a daily base? are there any guilds recruiting? GG19EU? and so on.

I just believe this is going to fast and missing necesarry steps to make something out of this and believe you have to make first more people interested in our play style before organising something like this. But sure I could be wrong and yall doing this and there are so many players interested that it will automaticly be a succes.

Best of luck guys! I really hope you succeed in making this happen, you got my support!

Hey guys, it may feel like forever since you've heard from me regarding what is going on with the organization of the EU tournament.

I'm gonna give you guys a breakdown of what i think you guys need to know:
  • Almost fully recruited regarding staff members, the most crucial roles have been filled up but there are a few more roles i'm still looking for the right people for.
  • There is not yet an official post because i am a perfectionist. Unless i can guarantee that our tournament will be as perfect as can be i will not be announcing it officially. This may have an impact on the date of the tournament and i am fully aware of this, however we are aiming to have this tournament hosted in the current expansion.
  • Currently myself and other key members are raising all of the funds with no community support for this event. We believe that the community shouldn't have to do all of the work for something that we decided to create regardless of the demand for it. If the funds are not going to be at the expected goal by the time of when we aim it to be, we will be forced to postpone the event until a later date as we strongly believe that without a large prize pool, there isn't any hype and it's the hype that makes the whole tournament idea exciting.
  • If we do not reach our fundraising goal in the time we have designated for ourselves, we will postpone the date of the tournament to at least February of next year or even the summer of 2017 (This sounds disappointing i know, but this is a worst case scenario. I don't wanna keep any secrets from you guys).
  • If all is successful, we aim to be having our tournament in early July (dates remain eligible to change).

As time goes on we will be updating you guys of our progress. Don't worry about the official thread, it will be up on the site all in good time before the day of the event. There will be a lot of notice before hand, this project will not be rushed.

I want to sell my soul for this but I can't because there's no donation option.

At the minute there will be no donation page for the project. However if people feel that they really want to contribute and help support the event a donation page will be considered. If it happens to be the case of course all of the funds raised will go directly towards the prize pool.

Good luck with this Daz, outstanding initiative. I'm sure you'll make it happen.

Can you give any information on the pricepool right now? Like how many people are involved in getting it together, how much is funded so far?
I am sure there are ways to let the community contribute?!

They're working on it to make it perfect. Patience is key for this project.

May I give some digital marketing input regarding this tournament, since I do it for a living maybe it would come into use.

Basics:

1. First you need a project roadmap. Start with brainstorming on potential sources of traffic that will convert into leads. In this case, a lead is a subject that will potentially play this bracket/tournament. You have an existing Trello board for marketing campaigns that can be used in the future (or you can create your own).

2. After the 'brainstorm', you start with the scope of the project. You need to define a time-frame, how many resources will it take and what kind of results you're expecting from it.

3. You need to know what kind of audience you're dealing with. You're not selling furniture to middle-aged couples. You need to know what will resonate with your audience, so you can properly funnel what could potentialy convert.

4. Creating the need to play. You need to create the need for people to play this bracket/tournament. Usualy a rewarding system works great (especially money), but nostalgia could also work for past costumers (in this case, the G's).

Brainstorming:

Now you're a very smart guy, so I assume you already know all the things I've pointed out. Which means my contribution could be with 'brainstorming'.

1. Buying an ad spot directly on a Twitch streamer/s (Creatives). We all know Twitch is full of trolls, but if there's money involved a person will always consider. Sometimes a shoutout from a famous WoW streamer or a direct ad placed on a corner of his stream for a day or two will make a huge impact on the outcome of this tournament. This will obviously depend on how much the community is willing to invest, since buying placements or even shoutouts will come with a price tag on it.

2. Facebook Campaigns. Think about an image with Uncle Sam using a Lucky Fishing Hat "We want YOU for the Twink Army", with a $1,000 reward rolling on your Facebook wall. Could be tempting, right? A gateway that leads someone directly to a topic here, on twinkinfo, explaining twinking in general, the cup and it's rewards. Usualy a video works best after the target has been redirected.

You can geo-target campaigns on Facebook, and funnel it by categories or specifics. In this case, World of Warcraft. I've setup hundreds of Facebook campaigns and made profits out of them, so this is something I could personaly do without any costs for the community. I will cover the campaign costs for this if you require my help, since it costs money to run a campaign (Cost Per Click / Cost Per Mile (1000)).

3. Funding. If you fund players to an extent, it's already halfway through. Some people just don't come back because they're badly outgeared or have no account at all or outdated versions that require payment to upgrade to the latest expansion. And some are just lazy. But then again, you need to target them, so combined with point 1. and point 2., might convert even better. But then again, it has monetary costs for the community.

These are just a couple of ideas. I'll be around, if necessary.

First off, thanks for the extremely well thought out comment!

Regarding your first point about road mapping, in business terms it is impossible to set up a marketing campaign or do any usual methods of marketing when what we are offering is not a product, nor a tangible asset nor a service. It is closely comparable to a service, however this service cannot happen on its own - it cannot support itself without the community taking part. That alone makes it a lot more difficult to act on fundraising and promotion for the tournament without having something to showcase.

A promotional video is a great way to begin to have something to showcase and market through social media, promoting on streams and so forth to begin with. Finding the people who have the required skills to come together and volunteer to work together on the project for free is hard to find.

As far as it goes with Facebook campaigning it is not something i have experience with, the idea did cross my mind on multiple occasions but my knowledge on how to make the campaign successful is so little that it wouldn't be worth me trying this out myself. I would be interested in talking to you privately whenever we both have time to discuss things and see if we can come to some kind of agreement?

Al-tho I do agree with you that an idea isn't (yet) liable to create a road map, I do have an idea for a self-sufficient business plan on the long run. So a road map would only be called upon if there's a business plan involved (which shouldn't be excluded, since you can monetize an idea on the long-run). But by monetizing I don't mean actually breaking a profit for a single or collective entity for self-gain interests. Think of it as an NPO (Non-profit Organization) with a twist.

Yes, if we think of it as a non-profit (community) organization. The general concept is bringing players (old and new) to the bracket, but there is a dependency on resources, which in return, come from the community itself. And that itself can actually act as a catalyst for a marketing campaign, same way as PETA and Amnistia Internacional do when trying to gain funds (they spend money in marketing so people can donate more). I've seen some fundraising on this forum for the 19 bracket already, but we need to see how it goes.

A promotional video is a great way to begin to have something to showcase and market through social media, promoting on streams and so forth to begin with. Finding the people who have the required skills to come together and volunteer to work together on the project for free is hard to find.

That's a hard thing to put together. A skilled crew that will work pro-Bono is something that is very rare nowadays. But I do believe it's possible, even if limited. And having the right people on the project will bring more qualified people. Take yourself as an example, an outstanding guy which is an icon to the community. I'm sure a newcomer would have an hard time pulling this, but you, on the other hard, people know you and your history. You bring results, and that's the reason why I'm tagging along if you need me. You get things done.

Now that's something I'm very comfortable with and can give a hand. I'm used to marketing affiliate offers with Facebook, usually netting $800-1000 a week (check the image beneath) on different campaigns. So I'm familiar with what works, regardless what niche. When you got the time, we can discuss it and give it a hand, to complement your project.
