Revision 3/10/2012 :: Due to abuse of the system ALREADY, the addon is needing to be retooled. Only Administrators, Current MVPs, Donors, Bloggers, Community Leaders, Moderators, and Veterans will be able to vote for MVPs now. Because there was too much abuse by regular members, we have to take it away from all of you.
Because of this change, the number of nominations needed for MVP has been reduced from 10 -> 6 (may adjust this number again -- we will see).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the how the new system works:
In each post, on the left hand side where the user information is, you will find a "Nominate for MVP" button right below the Avatar (if the user has one) or below the Rank image (if the user does not have an Avatar). Clicking this button will nominate the user for MVP. Once you have clicked the button, the text will swap to "Nominated for MVP" to let you know that your vote has been submitted (no page load required -- done via AJAX).
When you click that "Nominate" button, a lot of stuff is going on in the background. We are tracking the user that submitted the vote, the post that the vote was submitted on, the date/time, and a couple of other miscallenous tracking criteria.
Once the user receives 6 nominations, a thread is created in the Administrative forum that shows all of the votes. At that time, the staff will discuss whether or not the user is deserving of the MVP rank (this is done to keep from abuse). If the user is approved for the rank, they will be manually moved into the MVP group which will share all of the same benefits as the Donor and Veteran ranks, but you will get a different colored username to distinguish you from the rest.
Groups That Can Vote For MVP: Administrators, Current MVPs, Donors, Bloggers, Community Leaders, Moderators, Veterans
Groups That Cannot Be Voted For For MVP: Administrators, Moderators, Community Leaders
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope that you all thoroughly enjoy this new system as much I enjoyed coding it. It was an adventure and I hope that this product makes people more active in contributing to the community!
