F2p on a linked account
If you're bnet has the... I think its "character level 50" achievement or whatever, then you have access to chromie time, iirc. Which means your character can simply swap to a different chromie time?

Honestly, Im not terribly sure though. Chromie is a stupid, pointless mechanic and I hate it so I dont pay attention to how it works. Maybe someone else can give you a better answer.

But you dont have to do anything special to unlock the dungeons. You just cant use the dungeon que tool for them. Just walk into them.

Yeah so I actually just went and checked and I can access Chromie Time on my linked F2P.
Now I guess I have to figure out what that actually affects. beyond LFG queues.

not much besides which dungeons appear in lfg.
being in any other walk than current time puts you in a phase where you won't see current time people outside a city, like warmode does. 50+s can't timewalk currently so you can avoid them by walking. ergo your own 50+ cant 2personmount people in timewalk. party synch can fix this without having to have people go back to chromie to all get on the same setting. rares not up in one might be up in another. during prepatch if i really wanted a rare i might check walkoff wm off, walkon wmoff, walkoff wmon, and walkon wmon for 4 possible spawns.

Am I misunderstanding the concept of "vet" accounts?

I have these 3 accounts.

- First one is my main account and has gametime on
- Second one used to be and old account (my frist one actually) that I recovered around Cataclysm time and transfered my chars of to the first one.
- Third one is a trial account I made a years ago to f2p twink.

I read about "vet" accounts and how they can access the AH and have 1k gold cap instead of 10, so I made a new char on the second account to twink on it. But when I tried to access the AH I got the "trial accounts cannot access auction house" error.

Am I missing something here? Do vet accounts eventually "expire" and devolve into trial accounts if you stopped paying for it waaaaaaaaaaaay too long ago?

Here's another print that clearly shows that my second account is not a trial/starter like the third account (it's in portuguese but I think no translation is needed for that part, lemme know if it's not understandeable please)

a Vet account is any account that *used* to have game time but no longer does. so you sub, use the ah, get your mail, etc and then let the sub expire

so when people say that vet accounts can hold 1k gold, that means you have to get this gold BEFORE running out of sub?

I mean, makes no sense to say that expeired accounts can use the AH when they can't lol, I'm kinda confused by what vet actually means

If you once had game time on your account but let it lapse and made a character after your time ran out, you'd have all the F2P limits but your account would still be considered vet. There are a very small number of differences between the two statuses, but for all practical purposes they have the same limits.

When people talk about veteran twinks here, they're talking about someone who bought a month of game time to be able to get stuff from the ah or a higher level toon, and then let their subscription lapse. It's not technically the most accurate way to phrase things, but it gets across the difference between a character who had to farm up everything on their own vs. one who had outside support.

All "trial" characters whether vet or pure F2P can now hold up to 1k gold.

Vet means you were on a paid sub that you allowed to lapse, but stayed under the 20 trial cap, so that you could continue playing for free after that.

F2P is a free to play account that has never had a paid subscription or paid time attached to it.

You can also have a F2P linked to a paid account, in which case you gain access to mounts and titles etc.

[Infos in OP on accounts answers these already, though oh-well]
[1, 2, 3, and maybe 4]: Both F2P and vet characters [no sub active, starter edition restrictions apply] are placed in the xp-on bracket for level 20-29 [and 10-19 if leveling through battlegrounds]. 20s with active sub [not yet vet], and are exp-locked, are placed in the xp-off 20-29 bracket. I don't know how often xp-off bgs pop [if at all], though xp-on bgs pop consistently.

5. That would count as a vet character. F2P means it was never subbed, at all (though, there's pure F2P, linked F2P, and Vet).
So if I got an active sub and want to play a level 20 twink I'm basically shit out of luck if I turn xp off.
I still don't understand this decission to split queues. Does Blizzard hate Twinking?

the main reason people play 20s is because you get into xp-on ques by virtue of being level capped by your account and not your xp status. If you'd like to play 20 twinks, you just need to set up an unpaid account. It takes a bit of doing, but once you've gotten through it, you're good to go.

no. this is a silly and ahistorical refrain.

Does this only apply for 20 Twinks? Would I be better off playing a 19 Twink or will I run into the same problem with an active sub?

level cap on a free account is 20. which means you wont level higher than that so getting xp in BGs is meaningless.

You'd still get xp on a 19 and if you turn xp-off you cant que for BGs on a free account. But even if you could... youd be in the xp-off que which means no games.

20s is good because it has a large player pool due to F2Ps and twinks hunting F2Ps, so bgs tend to pop faster than almost any other bracket.

That's what I thought too but to have to make a new account to be able to twink in this bracket seems strange to me. Blizzard should just join the xp on and off queues again.

If you have a 20 on a paid account, just unlock XP and then stop playing. Then let your account run out. You'll now have a 20 vet twink with unlocked xp who can queue with everybody else.

Then I won't be able to play my other toons. So I basically have to decide if I want to only play this twink or not twink at all.
Create new wow account. Place one month game time on it via token purchase. Wait. Game time runs out, transfer twink to that account. Play twink on unsubbed account, have subbed account for regular end game play.

Oh, I see what you mean.
Honestly making a linked account and leveling a F2P takes maybe 3 hours or something. It's not that big of a hassle.
Also the fact that it works this way is what has made this probably the best twinking bracket in the last ten years. It's actually a good thing, even if it personally inconveniences you.
