EU+US F2P emotes gone

There was always a prohibition against /Yell in f2p, but now all emotes to other players are classified as Yelling. It will no longer even be possible to wave to another player. Attempting even the most basic emote toward a player results in the error "Starter Edition accounts cannot yell. [Click to Upgrade]" Since whisper was also impossible, that leaves just /Say. Speech via Say generally doesn't work except with players close in level. Essentially, interacting with strangers is over.

We used emotes to join parties (renaming pets and point it) back in the days. It was not so important anymore because F2P can use battle.net network/chat. F2P's also had a great community at discord.

If a trial player happens to be on a RP server where many players use a character profile addon like MRP, XRP, or TRP3, that trial player can still ‘communicate’ to others through these character profile addons.

That’s redundant nowadays with battle.net desktop app and discord, but it can be (or was) a little nice option to have. For example, a long time ago, I left a note on my profile that I was a F2P (and what it meant) and I was LF a mage to port me to pandaria (when its capital had many portals), and after a few days, one mage voluntarily offered a few seconds of his/her time to invite and offer a portal. It’ll be sad though to no longer use a default emote like /thank or similar, however.

I was hoping it was a fluke. I used /bye last night and was puzzled when it didn't work. Is this affecting all emotes or just voice emotes.

It seems to affect every F2P with who I discussed ...
It concerns all pre-definded emotes like /dance and /point but custom emotes with /e still work.
Every emote leads to the same message "Starter Edition accounts cannot yell."

I talked with a GM today about that, and he said that he was aware of no change about f2p limitations recently, and that it is surely an unintended feature, and more likely a bug. He also said that we should submit a "bug report" and hope that it get fixed soon.

The more people report that bug, the more likely it may be seen and fixed ...

F2P don't have a lot a rights, even less in terms of communication ... so fight for what we have before they steal the last "decent" way we have to communicate with lvl30+ ....

Take some minutes to report it ... i want to be able to /dance with my enemies again :(

hrm, I've been able to /dance, /point, /hug (and yes, /sit) successfully. All while targeting other players and while having no target.

I just re-tested it, and all (those on the list that is on the left panel) give an error, but surprisingly some emotes still perform the action, without anything said on the chat except the error :
/kneel ; /sit ; /sleep ; /stand
Others do nothing ...
Chops, what you said is strange given the fact that you're on a pure F2P ... maybe you're immunised ... or maybe it doesn't affect everyone ...

Turned off my chat window add on (thought it might be hiding the issue) but was still able to emote successfully. Never got an error message.

Now, I have no idea if anyone Im emoting sees it. but its appears to be working normally on my end.
[doublepost=1551901015,1551897982][/doublepost]after some (very brief) testing I've found the following

- I get the error message only in instanced pvp or dungeons
- I dont get the error message in the open world
- Other accounts can see F2P emotes (at least thats the case with me dual boxing)

Def seems like a bug.

After more testing I've found this affects all emotes even as simple as /Nod whether a player is selected or not. However, I took Brihan's observations to heart and did even more testing. As already established this silencing of f2p is operative in BGs. It also is in effect in Stormwind and while flying over open water ("zoneless" locations). It is not causing a problem in numerous other locations. I can emote normally in Pandaria, Outland, and Northrend. If anyone cares to document the reach of this nerf, I'd appreciate it. Perhaps a table of confirmed nerfed and unnerfed places.

Frozen veteran accounts got same treatment.
Apparently have to pay dollars in order to /dance.
at least /e still work.

Out of season april fools joke.

Elwynn Forest - BAD
Darkmoon Faire - GOOD

...

Searing Gorge & Dun Morogh are also GOOD

Don't speak too fast my friend, you may have been blessed by RNGesus and have again the chance to dance, eat, and enjoy the life ... But many fellow f2p don't have yet that luck ^^

This is a good point that show that it is indeed a bug ... and now i'm litterally testing emotes in every sub-region i get into ... to maybe find the right place where i'll be able to /dance with my friends ....

I try to talk with other f2p who are maybe not on this forum. The more information we get on that "unintended feature", the easier it should be for blibli to understand and try to fix it (if they even care about it :( )

And to reply to Merl_D, in my case, both DMF and Elwynn Forest don't work, so it seems that the effects of this bug are different for every player ... for now, i found absolutely no place where i can emote like before ...

Yep, spoke too soon for sure. Popping into a bg triggered the bug again while I was in there(wsg), but after it was done i'm able to do all emotes again. I'm in Undercity and was in Org also before the pop, working in both cities. When it first hit a couple days ago it triggered when i entered a bg also, and I wasn't able to emote at all, anywhere until today.

I feel the pain, I made this thing for the /dance in the first place

Another observation: In BGs, the error message tends to spam several times in a row even when I havent attempted any emotes. In a way, that's good news. If they were just trying to nerf f2p they would have done a cleaner job of it. Or, maybe that is their intention, but they're just using a quickly written prototype routine before dropping the hammer for real with the next patch. No emotes AND few portals will add up to a very isolated world for f2ps.
