XP off icon - patch notes

Noticed this line in the UI section of the latest PTR patch notes:

A buff icon has been added to make it easier to tell when a character has XP gain disabled.​

Why would anybody need this information? Could this presage the re-integration of XP-on and XP-off players in battlegrounds?

Not sure if there is a discussion of this elsewhere (couldn't find anything), or if anybody has been able to test this yet. Thoughts?
 
The buff icon is a great thing for twinks. It will allow us to easily distinguish twinks from levelers.

I must have missed this. I thought this might happen, given the gearing changes, but hadn't seen anything official.

That's pretty cool, if a twink does really well in a BG, the levelers might look at him and see the buff, and be intrigued. And suddenly our community will have one more member :)
 
Nice, now will ppl see, who is farming them. So, they will be able to cry on forums, how can twinks still be better than them.

Good catch! That is a really big deal. This means that in Legion battlegrounds, XP-off players will now have an icon that will basically function as a conversation starter. "Why would you turn off XP gain?"

Why indeed.
 
The icon was found before devs confirmed it on twitter :)
 
It was mentioned in some alpha threads, but there was never a specific thread about it. That's why it's relatively old news for some but for others it's new information.
