Coming from the Vanilla private server twinking community, and having played in each bracket between various servers (19, 29 and 39), I'm interested to see what happens to competitive twinking in WoW Classic. Being a historically small and stubborn group of competitive pvp-centric individuals who have a knack for choosing a bracket and sticking to it, it would be cool if more players played together to build on a twink PVP community that harbours a lasting sense of competition. In this light, I'd like to make my case for why I think the 39's bracket has the greatest potential for being the ideal bracket for this. I believe that with a solid community, this bracket has the best chance of it's "competitiveness" outlasting the 19 and 29 brackets respectively.
The first reason is that because of the way Physical Damage hit scales in Vanilla, Physical damage doers, support healers and casters using Rocket helm and death ray, are able to kill much higher levels than your own. And at 39, killing level 50 to 60 players becomes very doable and very very fun. What this means is that because the largest active portion of the player base will be sitting at level 60, zones like BRM and Ungoro become exciting and challenging areas for a 39 twink to gank players. With 2 rogues, or a rogue + X combo, bringing down level 60's provides a whole new arena for pvp with it's own challenges and skillsets. An example of these is stealing devilsaur leather from high levels because gathering professions are now capped at 300. Having played 39 rogue on Northdale, I can safely say that duo/trio ganking high level players was the most fun twink activity I was part of for the whole time I played Vanilla private server twinking. I honestly spent countless hours with a few friends, just parked at the entrance to MC or BRM, ganking level 60's.
The second reason is the range of plays that open up to you with the introduction of many new cooldowns and engineering items. Items like grenades, rocket helm, mind control cap, death ray, shrink ray and other Vurtne-esque pvp items become usable upon entering this bracket. This bracket is the lowest bracket where it feels almost like end game to play, while still having the challenges, community and nuances of twinking. You have many of the abilities you have at 60. While the 29 bracket, classwise, can feel more balanced within a warsong gulch game, the competitive aspect becomes stuck inside BG's because the world PVP is far less diversified. Level 19's can be fun for a bit and is easy/cheap to make your character, but it is even more limiting, being a complete shit show when it comes to class balance.
An extra point my friend Shmuck has made in the past, is that low level premade v premades are made more fun without the culture of queue dodging and honour farming controlling the games.
I hope you can appreciate some of the points I've made on my break at work. If you have any thoughts, please feel free to add them
