Disc relies on having a large mana pool, but burns through mana more quickly. This makes the regen for priest less significant, whether it be from water or spirit.

You should also consider the 6% damage and healing talent, though.

the main difference between hpal and priest is the almost zero mana cost of holy shock and the fact that word of glory doesn't cost any mana. yeah, pennance is sick, but it's on an 8s (?) cooldown. in the meantime, priests have to cast pw:s and flash heal to heal people, and those both cost a ton of mana. pallies will oom just as fast if they spam flash of light, too

Penance has a 12 second CD. How much does Holy Shock heal for on a 20 BiS hpala, like 200? My priest's Penance heals for 168 per wave (504 total), but Flash Heal is only 380. WoG is what puts hpalas ahead, being instant cast, costing no mana, no cool down and healing for... I don't actually know. I'm assuming it's somewhere around 150ish per charge.
