hey guys, this is my mage
Cerill @ Firetree - Community - World of Warcraft

im not sure how to gear it.. lol. its a stupid question but..
what stat is best for mages? spell power or int?
i just re enchanted my gear for the third time, going back and fourth between the two.. some people say int is better and others say sp is better..
with sp gear, i get 815 arcane blasts (four charges non crit) with int gear i get a little less than that.

if int increases crit on top of sp, wouldnt int be better?

please help me.. lfg in wow is not helping lol.

since MoP int = sp. int doesnt give crit or mana or anything else. only sp. anything that says otherwise are old info

As a Horde DPS, you have a lot better options available to you in gear choices. There is crit ring and boots available to you as well. They may not have the stamina as the others. But you have chosen a DPS class. Learn to rely on your healers. Protect them well and they will repay you in return!
Have you leveled you first aid up?

/cheers

It doesn't matter how reliable a healer is if a 29 rogue can crit 2.5k on me. Plus the scaling of intellect isn't too great for mage it seems, so I prefer the extra stam. Even with this setup my arcane blast hits for 800 non-crit.

Arcane mages have near identical scaling as boomkins.

I checked, 1 SP gives 1.2 extra damage to arcane blast (3.6 at 4 stacks). I prefer the 24 health that stamina gives

But you are missing the point. stack whatever you want to which ever preference you have. Your previous statement is still false.

Boomkins being the hardest hitting single-target caster(that being starsurge); A boomkins starfire hits less than Arcane Blast. Even with 10% increase from boomkin form, 30% from max eclipse, and 30% from Starsurge buff; Arcane Blast still scales 17% Better than Starfire's damage and only 11.50% less than starsurge.

EDIT: I take that back. Technically Chaos bolt scales slightly more than Max Starsurge. 8.75% + Crit increases dmg as well; to be precise. Chaos bolt is the hardest hitting caster ability out there.
EDIT2: Of course that is assuming that you are comparing Chaos bolt to a non-crit starsurge.

Okay so I decided to do some research, and here are the numbers according to wowhead

Arcane Blast - Spell - World of Warcraft 121% of spellpower (363% with 4 stacks)

Wrath - Spell - World of Warcraft 146.3% of spellpower
Starfire - Spell - World of Warcraft 234% of spellpower
Starsurge - Spell - World of Warcraft 292.5% of spellpower

So yes, it does seem arcane mages benefit more than balance druids (only at 4 stacks), so I may try to get some SP there and see how it works out although I will still try to keep my health high cause of rogues/druids.

This is the setup my arcane mage uses. I have 207 SP, 26.5% haste, 5.3k hp in BGs. As an arcane mage you need a lot of health because you are very squishy vs melee.

I was looking at your mage and i have a few questions:
1) How much damage does your mage do? it seems to me you're stacking stam instead of int/sp.
2) Why did you choose Ice Floes? I use Evanesce because i feel having a three second immune to damage would be best. you can get another shot with arcane blast.

For me, I like world pvp better than battlegrounds. In wpvp, you don't really have a healer, hence the reason i chose that talent.

on another note, would it be possible to use Evanesce with first aid without getting interrupted?

evanesce replaces Ice Block which is 10 seconds of immunity to damage. I prefer that to buy time for healers to come to me or wait for blink to go off CD. Ice Flows really allows the mobility an arcane mage needs to do damage, its great to poly while running away from melee or to chase after someone.

As for my damage, Arcane Blast does 753 damage at 4 stacks but If I go with a more SP based build I could get this up to 860 damage (at the cost of around 1k health).

ah, ok. I think i'm going to mess around with the talents some more. thanks for your input.
