Okay yeah so i wasn't going to necro my old thread but honestly something thought provoking with good writing/action...any suggestions...? i've probably seen all the "must sees" (maybe not?) please help.

What genre?

Critical favorite or brainless blockbuster?

Saw you put action there so I'll just list a few with some action in em. You say you've mot but maybe you missed some so here are a few:

Apocalypse Now

If you've got 3h it's always worth another look.

The Bridge over the River Kwai and Lawrence of Arabia.

David Leans masterpieces.

Adaptation

One of the best written movies of all time.

Drive

Killer performance by Albert Brooks.

Wrote this after your comment on genre.

Up In The Air

A movie that has what was supposed to be everything he wanted. Not the traditional Hollywood ending and an intrresten story.

At Close Range, The Deer Hunter and The Dead Zone.

If you like Chris Walken these are the ones to check out.

Network

A classic.

Nosferratu

Dont know what your status is on old/new movies but this is perhaps the old est feature. An unlawful adaptation of Dracula this movie has held up better then mot other takes on the story.

Shadow of the Vampire

A fun little movie that is based on the idea that the reason the leda performance in Nosferratu was so good was because he was an actual Vampire. Features perhaps the best performance in Willem Dafoes career.

Maybe more later. @Conq

i watched a lot of scary movies recently, and the only one that really got to me was The Descent. european girls come to america to go cave-spelunking. the outright "horror" written into the film wasnt too frightening, but the movie certainly violated my claustrophobia. the movie is memorable to me for these reasons even though it's certainly not a top 100 film

I'm pretty open minded, I can't deal with brainless garbage.

Except this, I prefer to save my fight or flight responses for times when I actually need it xD

Man that was such a great movie!!! Ahh man I saw that back in college, good times man!

Of the not currently in the Theatres section of my brain I can suggest these based on your OP; in no particular order:
  • Biutiful
  • No Country for Old Men
  • There Will be Blood
  • The Fountain
  • Sin Nombre
  • Memento
  • Being John Malkovich
  • The Cell
There's a ton more but that gives you a good start.

Bionicle, Mask of Light.

Rugrats go to Paris.

All dogs go to heaven.

any of family guy star wars.

1. Miracle
2. Scarface
3. Warrior
4. Leon: the Professional (Dory recommended me this movie, good stuff)
5. The Iceman
6. Django
7. Breach
8. American History X
9. The Departed
10. Training Day

I'm sure more will come to mind as this thread progresses
