Weapon Skill

On my 80 pally, when i got a new weapon (i switched from a polearm to a 2h sword), my crit chance went down about 7%, and i missed a lot. I was confused, but i discovered that my weapon skill was only 200. As I raised it to 400, my crit, and hit %, steadily went up per skill point i gained (this is PvE of course). The crit % associated with weapon skill is reflected at 19 correct? And since i didnt level all my weapon skills on my rogue, is there any efficient way to level weapon skill without gaining xp?

You weapon skill is automatically maxed out in PvP, I'm 90% sure about this as I've investigated it around patch 3.0.2.

the thing i forgot to mention, i tried a bg right after i got the weapon, and i wasn't missing, but my crit was still low. So i guess my question was, how to level weapons skill, but i guess killing low level mobs will work. My crit % was affected in pvp while my weapon skill was low

I'm still gonna level my weapon skill to max just for to see that I do have max crit chance, if i don't see it I don't believe it lol.

Would be intresting if you told a bit details how you investigated it. I am my self in belief that weapon skill affects your crit chance in pvp.

Spent some time reading around the net, blue posts, WoWWiki, and I concluded that it is indeed maxed. However, I don't believe ever confirming the crit part, only that the hit is not affected, so I suppose my information isn't valid for this discussion.

hmm interesting, I'm a strong believer in leveling all weapon skills including unarmed.

Your hit associated with weapons in bgs is maxed but your crit isn't maxed. For each point in your weapon skills you gain about 0.04% crit up to where its supposed to be according to your agi(physical) as well as crit rating. If your weapon skill is say, 40, your hit will be capped in bgs but your crit will still be 2% lower than what your stats say otherwise.

No evidence ftw. Just duel someone, say a healer, and autoattack them till you have a decently large sample size. Calculate crit percentage, perform 1 proportion z test.

Solution: Level all your weapon skills on some low levels. I find that the gnolls (near hogger) work pretty well for all my alliance toons. They're low enough not to gain exp, but they have enough health to get around 3 attacks off.

I have no evidence to support this and have no idea if it is true but from what ive been told weapon skill does not affect pvp at all (inc crit), unless you have some expertise rating. If you have expertise rating it will have no effect because wow factors in the expertise before realising that its pvp and boosting your weapon skill to max.
