Vet player returning to only do PvP. Is it possible?

I've looked through some of the guides available for starting in 20s, and it looks like I'll need to do PvE for decent gear. What if I put on my heirlooms, buy whatever is available on AH, and spam PvP instead? Can I still remain viable given that the gear gap is not so wide between the "haves" and "have-nots" in SL?

I intend to stay in Stormwind forever, spam PvP, and fish while waiting for queues to pop. Would I be too far behind playing this way?

You would kiiiiiiiinda feel behind.
The gear difference is just gonna be too much for you to actually make plays against any half decent twink, who put in the effort you're saying you're looking to skip on.

The class choice(s) also matter a lot in this. Some classes can get away with finessing a bit more, but that doesn't mean gear still doesn't matter, because it absolutely does. I'm just saying that some classes are less restrictive overall.

However, no matter how good you are as a player, you will eventually hit a roadblock where you wish your gear would have been on par, and that's gonna kill you inside. That's at least if you're anything like me, and I can't stress that enough.

I Personally like to push things to the max. If you're okay with limitations and are knowingly aware that you put those on yourself (like, you will literally have no grounds to complain, like, ever), then by all means, go for it. We all enjoy the game in different ways.

It's not like you need go all out crazy to get gear that would put you in a comfortable spot, but doing nothing at all would probably make your twinking experience a not so enjoyable, and most likely, short one.

My advice, be an actual twink. At least put in the bare minimum of effort. Otherwise, you're looking at a bad time.

Your return will be a reflection of your effort. If you wanna sit and do nothing then your result should have that low an expectation. Not even saying there's anything wrong with that... but you get out of it what you put into it. Just like life.

counterpoint: You'll be fine, especially if you continue to crawl the AH and eventually pick up a full set of socketed ilvl 28s and at least put in the minimum effort needed to get an artifact weapon.

Heirloom budget twink? You'll probably get wrecked. But put in enough time at the AH and eventually, months down the line, you might be competitive enough to not notice in all but the sweatiest games.

Have fun.

especially if you continue to crawl the AH

counter-counterpoint: Requires a resub and month "off" down the road barring a free weekend or GM time.

Not to mention an active secondary account to access it... and if you got that then just f***ing run yourself some gear.

;)

I think of the 20’s bracket as a spectrum ranging from Levelers (who are significantly undergeared and will have an absolutely miserable time slapping enemies with limp noodle arms and getting sliced and diced like a chicken breast on a hibachi grill through their tissue paper armor) to Min/Max Twinks who have every BiS slot/enchant/gem/consumable imaginable (who will feel like Arnold walking into a high school weight room and throwing every plate in sight on the bar while the prepubescent freshmen cower in the corner)...

I’d say if you get some basic heirlooms, BoEs from the AH, enchants and consumables, without committing any time to PvE/farming, you’ll probably fall in the middle of the spectrum, where geared Twinks will still delete you, but you won’t be wet-papertowel(that cheap kind, not even Bounty)-useless like a leveler or Pure F2P.

I’d say go for it, have some fun, and then when you feel like you want to start being a bit more overpowered look into farming.

Define sweatiest game?

... at least put in the minimum effort needed to get an artifact weapon ...

I refuse to do any shite PvE. I eat, breathe, sleep only PvP. Thanks everyone for you guys' inputs.

Eh not really. Sockets are kinda big. w/o socketed gems you are probably missing out on 40+ prim/40+ secondary. or like 60+ primary if you went full primary. Thats not counting sockets in greens for slots you cant fill from dungeons/quests.

As for doing the legendary, if you have the SoO boas, that would be competitive with it for weapons.

You could buy all ilvl 28 greens with a single socket but man that sounds pricy, should at the very least get your artifact weapon with relics to ilvl 33 though.

Short: yes its possible. Fun? Sometimes.

Longer: All depends on your class. Spec and personality. You can do well in bg with looms / bg box items, but depends alot on class and spec. If you get annoyed or cant stand bg where you get farmed then no.

My resto shaman with unsocketed greens i got from the AH is more fun to play than my dumbass MW... so you will be fine. BUT, that is 100% being able to stack mastery, not sure if you can do that with random junk from crates.

Most pugs end in a farm anyway, twinks or not... so that's not really a concern.

Give me your ign and whatever type of armor you wear and I'll mail some unsocketed ilvl 28 green BoE's to help you get started. It may not seem like a lot, but their power level is pretty good. My former Survival Hunter was purely f2p with only unsocketed greens and an artifact weapon and I still had pretty decent damage on BG's and arenas. Obviously the fully decked out twinks wrecked me, but I was able to have some fun at least.

Anyways yea, assuming you have an active sub to use the mailbox, drop the name of your character and the armor type you wear and I'll send stuff your way.
