In my experience, I rather feel as if recent twinking is digging up a hole for itself, at a rate that's quite rapid. As current endgame content is quite...stale, many players from 120 are joining vets (maybe f2p but what i've seen, mostly vets) which is awesome. But... as current specs such as rshams, rdruids, arcringe mages etc are quite overpowered in the sense of the tools they have or the damage they can throwout, they've been played alot more than other specs, for obvious reasons which leads to...
When a player is new to twinking they usually ask other twinks 'What class should I play', which often leads to those 3 specs I mentioned earlier. 'Want to play a healer? just play a druid or shaman', 'Want to DD? just play a boomy or arcringe mage'. Instead of asking the player to explore all specs at level 20 to find which suits them and which makes them feel most satisfied whilst playing.
Personally I got into feral druid because of sodapoppin, and when I found out what twinking was I mixed my 2 interests together and mained it from pre-patch mop > current. I feel as if people need to find the fire in their hearts, the odd, funky specs that they're weirdly connected to. Whenever I see players such as Belokia or Alphasky, that mostly still plays the spec they found to love by themselves, it reminds me of what twinking USED to be.
Finding unique ways of playing a spec and making it work. Or just simply trying to make mediocre specs incredibly fun and useful.
Ps. There's nothing wrong with maining fotm, simply trying to get players out of their shells that other twinks guided them to.
