Legend
i'm tired of the endless noobs, idiots, and kids in this bracket perpetuating blatantly false information

there is no such thing as "pool stealing" in the STV fishing contest. fishing nodes faster will only increase rate of pool spawns, resulting in more net casts for all participants. this is really fucking simple, guys

no, random person #891723789123 is not screwing you over by fishing in your pool. no, you do not have a magical right to your pool. no, it will not be "better for everyone" if everyone sticks to their own pools. stop repeating this garbage

just because acting a certain way seems nice and courteous does not mean that it is the de facto correct course of action. i know that thinking more than 1 step ahead is hard for you guys - that's why you're playing world of warcraft, where you get 1.5 seconds to decide on your next ability. so that's why i made this thread for you - so you didn't have to go to the strenuous mental effort of figuring this out for yourselves

enjoy your day

Hey Champion of the United Keyboard, you're forgetting they're costing both of you travel time. Yes, there is such thing as pool stealing, yes being nice and courteous saves YOU time. By stealing from your pool both of you lose time as opposed to just the "thief". He's stealing your time, not your pools.

nope!

sorry!

I see no problem with DURING the contest. Hell, that is part of the contest to get the fish first. But why do it after? There really is no reason to fish out of the pools that people are fishing in. There are plenty of pools to go around.

And congrats to the people that got their hats today!

if there's plenty, why not share??

When people share a pool, then they both have to get into position to fish it, they both have to mount up after fishing it, and they both have a chance to run through a cast that won't return a fish as the pool could be fished out by the other fisher before it completes.

When 2 people fish each pool in the same set solo, then the amount of time spent between them in getting into position or mounting up is equal to the number of pools (not pools X fishers). There is also no time wasted due to the chance of a wasted cast.

no

read the post that Playroom made, it is a good explanation of how the fishing contest works

if you are moving more than a few hundred yards during the fishing contest, you are going about it incorrectly. this is why you should always be fishing with a group in order to ensure continuous respawns

this would actually involve thinking multiple steps ahead though, which naturally is not an option for world of warcraft communities. the next best thing is to make it clear to each individual that "pool stealing" is the optimal course of action, and let the net outcome of their individual decisions push the overall result in a more efficient direction

Constructive, you're improving C O T U S. Kudos!

This, also Iaccedentallytwink is correct.

The whole concept of 'poolstealing is okay because pools are rare' is outdated, they've upped the spawnrate and spawnnumbers considerably, pools aren't rare anymore.

But perhaps we'll just have to wait for a flip-flop on this like with the 'Hunter-Priest' debate.

good lord, don't tell me that you didn't catch the sarcasm when i was making fun of idiots who think that priests "counter" hunters. seriously....?

i guess people are just as dumb in europe as they are in the good ol' USA!

Everything I said in my previous post is true, and can be proven mathematically, yet all you can provide as a counter argument is 'no'?

Playroom's blog post is full of nonsense that is not supported by any of the information found on reliable sites such as Wowpedia or El's Angling, or by a thorough Googling.. Namely "A higher fishing skill decreases the time it takes for a fish to bite your lure, making the first and most important contribution to your ‘cpm’." and "...separate the contest in two valid parts, one before a winner is declared and one after that. The difference between the two is that before a winner is found, the amount of active pools is almost double than that of the second case."

Both those statements are complete bollocks, and well within the realm of urban legend.
