The question of secrecy…. Showing your Gear on Armory

So, before 3.1, many, MANY twinks got into the practice of have a “log out set†designed to hide the competitive gear advantage they had from the opposition. What started out as simply a Tux set or event barb (lunar dresses, “farm†overall looks) and naked-but-tabard came to a new level after the launch of WotLK, with full “fake-out†green sets with mismatched enchants and odd stats (warriors with sprit leather/cloth sets were a rage for a bit).

Now that 3.1 has “leveled the playing field,†I’m wondering if anyone still uses their log-out sets. Are they still needed, and if so, why? Is it a privacy thing, or do you just not want to empower your competition? And what BG levels do it more than others?

Also, if anyone wants to share a funny log out set they created, I’d love to hear about it.

I used to use a "common twink" set that I'd change to before logging out. Either that or Ryleigh would put her festival dress on. Since 3.1 I'm definitely not as disciplined as I used to be. I basically went to a "f--- it" attitude with how my toon looks after logging.

never even knew people did this. i for one like to show my gear off to all who visit my armory.

I've always had what I called my "Purple Turban" outfit. If I logged out in it though that was just coincidence.

Like best in slot is a complete mystery.......

Always fun to run around in level 70 Grand Marshal's set (Can't be obtained anymore.) or D2 gear (Post BC server.). I can pretty much bet I'm the only person on my server to have both. People trashed the GM sets for arena gear and why would any sane person run the D2 quest chains?

This is ridiculous.

There's BiS and everything else...

This ^^

There's no reason to "hide" your gear from anyone unless you're not "perfect" yet... and even if you're not, the remarks of others would only encourage you further to get BiS more quickly.
