holy wtf how: I just read the main post again, and realized that it is a best of 7 + 1, which is EVEN MORE UNFAIR THAN LAST YEAR'S Bo5 +1. LIKE HELLO? LAST YEAR IT WAS A Bo5 + 1 AND THAT WAS UNFAIR. THIS IS EVEN WORSE. HELLO? @Myrm , @lindenkron , YOU SAID SO YOURSELF THAT YOU COPIED THE FORMAT FROM A Bo7 + 2 STARCRAFT TOURNAMENT, AND THEN JUST MODIFIED IT TO MAKE A SHORTER SERIES, NOT REALIZING THAT GIVING 1/3 of the games required to clinch the title IS LESS OF AN ADVANTAGE THAN GIVING 2/4 of the games required to clinch the title. NOW YOU GUYS HAVE IT SET TO AWARD 1/4 of the games required to clinch the title INSTEAD OF 2/4 of the games required to clinch the title. LIKE HELLO? TEAM? LOGIC? PLEASE? HOW ELSE DO I HAVE TO SPELL IT OUT?
Ill make this very simple for you. Try really hard to see my point here. Utilize some copy and paste and you are golden. That's even easier than failing to copy another tournament's format.
You have two options.
Option 1 - Two Best of 3 Series.
This is the most logical option, because it is the simplest for anyone in existence to understand. No other explanation is needed. The two teams play two bo3 series, double elimination style, kinda like the name of the tournament format.
Example.
Team A is in the winners bracket. Team B is in the losers bracket.
Team A plays team B in a bo3 series.
If team A wins that series, they are the champions.
If team B wins that series, then move to series two.
series two: surprise, they play again! Winner of that series wins the tournament.
Option 2 - A best of 7 + 2 (note: for decently experienced mathematicians only @lindenkron @Conq @Myrm)
The two teams play a best of seven, with the team from the winners bracket given a two game advantage. NOTE: this is absolutely equivalent to option one, just looks flashier for the viewers and one could argue generates more hype. Why, I have no idea.
Math time:
With option 1, Team A needs to win two games (which is one series, thus handing team B their second SERIES loss)to win the tournament. Team B needs to win four games (which is two series) to win the tournament, thus handing team A their FIRST and SECOND series losses of the tournament.
Math in numbers for our illiterate forum members/nwl committee members:
Bo5 + 1 = 1/3 game advantage given = wtf?
Bo7 + 1 = 1/4 game advantage given = wtf??
Bo7 + 2 = 2/4 game advantage given ---> because you know, the team in the winners bracket has lost 0 series, the team in the losers has lost 1 series, which is HALF way to elimination
Bo3, with Bo3 after if needed = 2/4 game advantage given.
Note that because 2/4 = 2/4, we can infer that a Bo7 + 2 is the same as two separate Bo3 series.
Can I make myself any more clear? If anyone from the NWL committee would like to discuss this with me on discord/curse/anything, I would be more than happy to.
