Tu meke!

That made me think of this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLRYD4Akksw

Maori:
Ko Papatuanuku me Ranginui nga matua o te ao
I puta mai nga tamariki nga Atua o te ao
He Atua o te moana
Ko Tangaroa he Atua o te moana
Tu mai te ihi
Tu mai te wehiwehi
Tu mai te wanawana e
Hi ha aue

English:
Earth Mother and Sky Father, parents of the world
Show yourselves to your children, Gods of the world
The God of the Ocean
Is Tangaroa: The God of the Ocean
Stand before the light
Stand and be amazed
Stand and be trembled
Be still be silent and all shall be revealed

Probably not perfect, but you get the idea.

Then, after the chills had dissipated from my spine, I thought of this:

A bit of a cliche now, but it kinda sparked a renaissance.

Aaah, that poi! I wanted to learn that. I wish my school in Auckland had had more activities, my friend had a Maori culture club at school, I think it was in Tauranga. meke, fight? OMG I forgot everything. :(

Tu meke is more like awesome. It's not really what I'd call traditional Maori. It's a reverse appropriation of the English "too much".

Forget poi! Get into a kapa haka group that does taiaha. This still makes tingle after all these years:

Tu meke! Ehara! That is indeed even more awesome than poi. :)

My Te Reo is a bit shit (I have forgotten so much since I left school) and lots of translations aren't cut-and-dry, so I thought for a second you were disagreeing with me.

Off topic: It always cracks me up when I play a caster in WoW, even though "mana" in the RPG sense has Polynesian origins it still doesn't fit right for me.

No disagreeing, I hope I got that word right. :) I admit I had to look mana up just now, I never learned anything complicated. I just exchanged phrases with the friends I made, one whanau (family/Maori, I hope i got that right?) who was by no means fluent and a refugee from Myanmar who tried to teach us a bit of Burmese. I don't think much of the German stuck for them, I've forgotten all the Burmese, and I can't really use the maori words I learned because I know zero grammar. >_> But te reo and German have a surprisingly compatible pronunciation! She was the only person in NZ to get my name right, haha.

So mana is spiritual power / authority? That is pretty cool! Why doesn't it fit for you? I don't think I got all the nuances of the word from the dictionary I found.

Uh, to get this more on topic:

German? I thought Yde was Dutch. I guess it's a common place name? Anyway I know what you mean, I did German (and Latin) for two years and I couldn't hold a conversation auf Deutsche (that's what I remember our teacher saying to us all the time but it seems wrong now) if my life depended on it, but it taught me a lot about the English language. I find Maori grammar difficult at the best of times, whereas I like the consistent rules in German. I can remember this guy teaching some Swedes we met tramping to pronounce Maori as "moldy" as in "moldy cheese", but there are actually different dialects and pronunciation (and spelling) of some words can vary based on your waka (as in the pan-tribal group sense).

In a Maori context, you can lose mana by doing bad things whereas in WoW you lose mana by casting spells. This is especially true with healing spells, which are supposedly good things. So losing mana by healing someone doesn't make much sense outside of the game mechanics, and getting mana from drinking/potions certainly isn't right.

Wow, I really like that. Definitely going to get more of her work.

(many pretty songs)

Thank youuu very much :D I hadn't had time to listen to them all but I really liked them. Specially Brun and the ones that come after that oneeeee... btw, what language is that? it sounds really awesome, I like their "r"s lol. (fu* Brun tho >__>).
And Helium Vola, I love that type of voice, but it's sad not being able to sing like that, lol. They made me remember symphonic metal <3

All of your songs are so awesome, I'm making a playlist of them c:

btw, just being curious, did you get a message I sent to youuu? :O (you don't have to reply right away to it), but I'm not sure if you even got it 'cause I sent it while we were on Xenforo, and I know that someone else didn't get theirs (it got deleted), so just wonderingggg...

That one is really cool, but the shirt that he's wearing at 1:15 is bugging me D:
whyyy oh whyyyy is he wearing that, if he was born in New Zealand? I think
But I really like the power of his voice and his expressions, and the video in general c:

________________________________

Now some russian

The song is talking about how they're struggling with the waters and they know death is near, so they're (i don't want to say praying), but the "goi rode goi" Is a calling for Rod, one of their gods, and they're waiting for their answer.
I really like it because the way she sings, makes it seem so real and she captures the essence of it all.

I guess he went on holiday (or maybe work) to LA and bought a t-shirt to remind himself? Isn't that what people do? I know a few expats in LA and Santa Monica seems to be where they go. Something about the Pacific, I guess.

Some of his other projects are quite cool, if you want some electronica/dub with a bit of South Pacific flavour. (Just Google Salmonella Dub and Shapeshifter.)

Didn't his t-shirt say Santa Monica on the back? Maybe it said Santa Muerta instead. (That would go with the picture on the front, no?)

Anyway, it's probably just a shirt he likes.
