Hi Twinkinfo! I'm happy to announce that we will be holding our second edition of the recent Twink Ranking Tournament in the coming months! Our official thread can be viewed here:

The 70 Twink Ranking Tournament 2 Thread - Forums - World of Warcraft

Keep in mind that this tournament is being held on US servers, and discussion is still in place to allow players from other servers to participate. Here is the thread in full:

Hi 70s community! After our first Twink Ranking Tournament a few weeks ago, we have decided we are going to make another one due to due popular demand! I'm here to introduce the second edition of our Twink Ranking Tournament series, explain some new rules we have in place, as well as confirming a few things about the tournament and how it will be run this time around.

First and foremost, I would like to state that I am completely aware of some of the mistakes made with the first tournament, all of which we are hoping to correct this time around because we want it to be as enjoyable as possible for everyone, from players to viewers. I apologize for any big mistakes that had become clear last tournament, and assure you that our second one is going to be much more well run than our first.

With that being said, I am pleased to announce that we will be holding qualifiers for our second tournament, ensuring that everyone has an equal chance of making the tournament. If there are multiple teams of the same composition, they will have qualifiers against each other to ensure that the best teams of those comps make the tournament.

Anyway, allow me to properly introduce the tournament for those of you who may not know what the Twink Ranking Tournament is. It is a 3v3 arena tournament that consists of 16 teams, who as I mentioned, will advance from qualifiers held a few weeks before the tournament. The qualifiers will be controlled in order to ensure that 8 RMPs (for example) don't make the final cut, because no one wants to watch an RMP in every series!

The Setup

The tournament is going to be played in a “Double Elimination” bracket style. All teams start in the Winners bracket, and upon losing a series, they drop to the Losers bracket. From there, they can still make it to the Grand Finals and ultimately win the tournament, but it is a much longer road. Upon losing a second series, the team is eliminated from play. Series start off as best of 3, but will move to best of 5 later on in the tournament. In the Grand Finals, the team who advanced from the Losers bracket will have to win TWO best of 5 series against the team from the Winners bracket to win the whole tournament, to ensure that the “Double Elimination” rule has been met.

The Rules

We recently had another discussion on rules about the tournament, and what we can improve on from the previous one to make games more fair and entertaining. Overall, we felt we nailed a lot of rules and the tournament ended up fairly balanced. As a recap, here is an updated list of rules:

- There are no engineering tinkers allowed. This is everything from the Tazik Shocker and Synapse Springs to smaller things like the Hand-Mounted Pyro Rocket. However, the Gnomish Lightning Generator will be usable. Teams will be disqualified from their current game and a win will be awarded to the other team if a tinker is used.
- The use of all bandaids is also banned from use. At our recent discussion, this was again controversial, but it was deemed to be too much work for our staff to track exactly which bandaids are being used, so we decided it was easiest to ban them completely to eliminate the hassle.
- The tournament is for level 70 characters only, mainly due to the fact that level 70s need a huge amount of hit percentage to be hit capped on 73-74s (something like 20%), and it was deemed an unfair advantage.
- All protection specs are banned from play. This includes Blood Death Knights, Protection Paladins, and Protection Warriors.
- Teams may not have two of the same class on them, regardless of how interesting the comp may be.
- There is a minimum resilience requirement in place. We really feel we nailed this one last tournament, and they will remain the same. All classes must have a MINIMUM of 400 resilience, with Mages / Rogues needing a minimum of 500. Any type of gear is allowed in order to reach this number.
- Players may not at any time change their spec. After the deadline for signing up, the spec you signed up as is the one you will play as, with no exceptions.

For any teams interested in playing, and people wondering how exactly the tournament is played out, here you go:

All games in the tournament are wargames. Games will be queued through Real ID from a centralized server (for our first tournament, that server is Arthas). The wargames will be 5v5, 3 people on each team being the players on the teams, and the other two being commentators / the streamer (or extras to help fill the space). When the gate open, the teams must stand still. The commentators and extras will run across and get killed by the other team, then activate ghost form. From there, a countdown will be initiated by one of the commentators, and the game will begin. There are a few simple rules about this countdown:

- Buffs that last less than 30 seconds (and hence, are cancelled when the gates normally open) are not permitted before or during the countdown, in order to simulate a normal game.
- Shamans cannot stack Ancestral Vigor before or during the countdown.
- Rogues are required to use any combo points they receive from killing the commentators and extras through Honor Among Thieves.
- Mage pets must be summoned when the gates open so they don't have a severely reduced cooldown when the game actually begins.
- If a Priest wishes to Fear Ward before the game starts, they must also use it as the gates open so the cooldown isn't reduced.

Games will also a timer of 20 minutes. If a game lasts this long, the game will end, and both teams will be awarded 1 point. However, if one team only needs one more point to win the series, no points will be awarded and the game will be replayed. This is to prevent teams from winning one game and then turtling the other games to make them last the time limit, then winning the series through ties.

For this tournament, we have a new revised disconnect rule. The way it will work this time around is that when a player disconnects, the group of staff involved on regulating games will choose how they think the game was going. If the game was heavily in the favor of the disconnecting team, the game will be replayed. If the game was evenly matched, or in favor of the opposite team, that team will have a choice of whether they want to replay the match or not.

Want to sign up?

Signing up is easy! All you need to do is simply post here with your team name, the players on the team, their specs, and what server you are from. Given the fact that a lot of teams are expected to sign up, we ask that all players on your have at least 2000+ Personal Rating in 3v3 on the character they are signing up as, unless you can prove high ratings on another character. Any team without this requirement will not be accepted into qualifiers.

Please, to save me time, format your team as follows:

Twink Ranking
Arthas – Alliance
Anatomyx (Frost), Anatomyx (Discipline), Anatomyx (Arms)

Cool! I loved the first tournament :)

Whilst this is in the US and most of us are EU here, I think this is great. I applaud you for taking on the responsibility of arranging such events and putting the 70 bracket in the limelight, perhaps encouraging more to join in the fun.

There is certainly a scene for this on Europe - *hint hint*

Anyhow I will be watching :)

We did not play out the tournament finals due to a number of circumstances involving both teams who were supposed to participate in the finals. It's quite complicated and involves some things we feel should not be announced to the public, and I apologize to all viewers who were looking forward to seeing the final match.

Due to the fact that both teams had faults that contributed to the finals not being played out as scheduled and delaying the tournament without informing the organizers, they are both being punished. It looks incredibly unprofessional and is bad for the tournament. This tournament will be much more strict with scheduling.

Now for some good news.

For a major update, I'm happy to announce that we will be having cash prizes for the top teams in the tournament.

A HUGE thank you goes out to Virtua, who is providing this prize money out of his own pocket in order to spark more interest in the tournament.

The prizes are as follows:

First place: $250.00
Second place: $100.00
Third place: $50.00

Prizes will be split as evenly as possible between team members, or split differently upon a team's request.

Hopefully with this information, more teams will sign up for the tournament!

If only it was on EU :(

Well, part of the issue as I mentioned was scheduling conflicts and delaying the tournament without informing anyone. The whole situation that actually happened was one of the players from Gone's team decided to go AFK for 45 minutes. Because of that we were running extremely late and for that reason Earthyqt, the Shaman on the RPS team had to go to bed because it was very late for him. They waited around and the MIA player did not show up. Earthyqt went to bed, and the other player came back about 15 minutes later.

On top of that, there was a lot of controversy that ensued after the tournament was over. One person participating from one of the two final teams (the same one who went MIA before the finals) was acting very disrespectful towards the staff and the community in general, and we were disgusted by it. He made personal attacks against one of the commentators and it was extremely unnecessary. We had a very long talk about whether or not the players team should be allowed to participate in a finals match, and didn't really come to a conclusion. Out of respect for the other participating players on his team, we decided not to officially disqualify their team. However after that, we came aware of the fact that many people did not want to even watch the finals after what had happened. On top of that, everyone thought the finals were going to be incredibly boring, especially given the fact that in their Winners Bracket finals matchup, both games were very long and one even timed out due to the incredibly defensive playstyles of both teams and the fact that when Gone's team did land a kill, it was a random insta-gib.

To further add to that, we did not have any commentators who were willing to commentate the finals, myself included, mainly due to the attacks made by one of the players. With no commentators, all the other complications, and the knowledge knowing that the finals would not be entertaining, we decided it was best to simply not hold a finals and make it act as an example for future players who think they are special snowflakes and can make several hundred people wait for them. If such an incident happens again, the team will be disqualified from play, and players who are being incredibly disrespectful towards staff and the community in general will be banned from future tournaments. We do not want childish behaviour and trolling to be what our bracket ultimately is viewed as.

Of course my gametime expires when this is announced. Sounds like a lot of fun for sure. Completely off topic, question for you Anatomy, once I get gametime I'm transferring to Arthas for NGMG. I know you quit the guild, and nobody will tell me why :( Mind explaining?
