Tebow Haters Beware

I like it, go Broncos

That game was awesome.

How could anyone hate Tebow? He seems like a very agreeable person.

He has created a controversy of religion in sports, which makes the secular internet community incredibly angry when he wins and thanks God for it.

But I love it, he keeps winning in OT, and now he's WON a playoff game which my Lions haven't done in practically my whole lifetime

Tebow is a quality player. No doubt about that.

BUT HOLY **** HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE WANTING TO SUCK THE GUY OFF?

Even my RL friends are suddenly Bronco fans. "OH LOOK TEBOWS ON GO TEAM" wtf no! Loyal fans wouldn't support him just cause of his religious views. You can thank God for winning all you like. And I do have my own personal belief system. AND I respect Tebow for his beliefs. But at the end of the day, I'm not gonna drop to my knees and unzip for him like every other American seems to be doing.

steelers were a joke idk what was worse, the injuries or the shitty play...denver was just the better team. cant compare that to the lions tho, who hung with a high scoring power like the saints. hell the lions beat the piss out of precious denver and teblow

no way in hell are they winning the divisional game to even see the conference champ. wild card game, big deal. seattle beat new orealns last year ffs, and you didnt see people puckering up to kiss hasselbecks ass

this is a common misconception, it is indeed Denver Broncos, not the Tebow Broncos.

If tebow wins the superbowl it proves that there truely is a christian god and i promise to go to church every sunday from now on. But in all seriousness I would love to see tebow go to the superbowl and just get demolished by my Packers

i would love to see the packers and the broncos get demolished next round

I live in Denver, but am a Colts fan (yes, in b4 Colts Sucks joke). I have to stick with my team...I liked them before Manning before someone accuses me of jumping on the Manning bandwagon (and even worked for the Colts in high school for 1 season - 1996 season when we went 3-13). Anyways, having said that, I've been watching this whole Tebow thing closely mainly because it's the complete talk of the town for the last few months in Denver (and well it's also the talk of the media for the last few months).

The reason why the Tebow thing is so big is really because he's controversial on so many levels. Here's some examples of what I mean (though I'm likely just scratching the surface):
  • He's not the prototypical QB: He succeeded in college but there's been many before him that haven't been a Pro Style QB and just never made it in the NFL (i.e. Eric Crouch, Tommy Frazier, Matt Jones and many more). When Tebow succeeds like he did in his 6 game winning streak and now in the playoffs (while nearly everyone is saying he's not going to be a franchise QB in the NFL) it's going to create a ton of buzz regardless of anything else. Insert any athlete's name in any sport where they're told "you can't do it" and then they go and do it somehow (and often despite poor stats) and they'll be all over ESPN. But to make matters worse, football is America's largest and most popular sport (it may not be your favorite personally but it's the most popular in viewers and income).
  • He's a Christian: Western society is in a funny place with religion these days. Part of this is onset by the growth of Postmodernism (and perhaps more specifically relativism) and its prevalence in our culture. Everyone's walking around saying things like "well that might be true for you but it's not true for me" about every single faith system (and yes having no faith is really a faith system if you think about it - everyone has a faith system, they're just in different things). Then you add in the skepticism about organized religion due to the stories in the news about pastors burning Qu'rans, mega church pastors having affairs with *** prostitutes, that whole Catholic Church abuse scandal, all the crazy things Westboro Baptist does, and many more cases. These things should cause some skepticism. Shoot, I'm a Christian and I'm skeptical of all those people too (and quite frankly get a little torqued that they by extension make me look bad - I promise you not all Christians are crazies, just some
    <
). Then there's the continued belief in America that all faiths should be private and not public at all. There's a lot of other factors but those are 3 biggies and for the sake of space and TLDR (of which I'm probably already screwed) I'll leave it at that. Then along comes a Christian guy that talks a lot about his faith system/religion in public and even credits God for their victories (I'm even uncomfortable about that because I don't think God cares about football game outcomes). I'm not here to argue religion, but to make the point that because of his religion and his constant statements and actions he's going to create controversy no matter what and understandably so.

So you've got some things working for or against Tebow depending on how you look at it. But regardless of how you look at it, the media has picked up on these things and they're milking it for all it's worth because they know controversy is good for business - it keeps people tuning in. Love Tebow or hate him. He's going to be showing up in the media for as long as he's starting in the NFL, but I suspect that once the media gets the hint that people are tired of the controversies surrounding Tebow it'll recede a bit.

For me, I personally am enjoying the excitement around the guy because he's brought some excitement to Denver I haven't seen since the Rockies went to the WS in 2007. And well, I'm a sports junkie and haven't had much excitement this year in football (with my team going 2-14...).

P.S. Regardless of your view on Tebow I think you'll find this funny: A friend on Facebook posted this last night after the game - "On the 8th day, Tebow rested."

yea the Lions are the better team, but wins (esp in this case) gets the media

the media loves to pucker up to views

The NFC was tougher this year. There's 3 teams in the NFC that I think have a great shot at winning the SB (SF, GB, and NO) and really 0 in the AFC (in my opinion ofc). Unfortunately, Detroit played one of those teams in the first round. I think Detroit is definitely on the right track, but I thought that on the first day in the post-Millen era. That guy was sabotaging your team for years.
