tab targeting range

For a while now, I've been noticing some other hunters have been putting their hunter's mark on me from frther away than I can tab target them. I've always assumed they were clicking on me. But now I see an old thread about modifying your tab targeting range in your coinfig file. Then blizz did some nerfs, like not supporting the macro command setCvalue, and setting a limtit to 50, and resetting it every time wow starts up. But, supposedly, you might still be able to raise ytour range from 35 to 50. I'm just wondering if this actually works:

This works for me -

Open you WoW folder now open the "WTF" folder, open the config file, and search for "SET TargetNearestDistance," (if it doesn't exist add it in on a new line) change it to and number you want, the larger the number the large your tab target distance/ it should read after you set it

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q u o t e:

SET targetNearestDistance "50"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

then close WoW and restart

PS - If your on Windows, dont use Notepad to open the config file, use Wordpad :)

Important: As of 2.3 values above 50 WILL NOT WORK

I just don't want to go messing with my config file if it is known to not work, or if there is a better option. Here is a link to the original thread:

World of Warcraft (en) Forums -> Tab target range?

The only thing that you mess with in your config file is the configuration settings for the game.

It doens't look like setting the config file with this to 50 works.

I found another old post presenting two methods, one of which you use in game via /console. The other thread I linked has a post about blizz making it so the distance reste to default every time you start wow, but if you can modify it in game through /console, then you can set it everytime you start wow after wow has already started up. ima try it. Also, is method b different from what you tried?

two methods. Method A, in game command.

Code:

/console targetnearestdistance 42

replace 42 with however many yards you want your tab target to be. And note (straight from the in game console)

Quote

TargetNearestDistance must be between 1 and 50.000000

Method B, modify config.wtf

Firstly, open your config.wtf in whatever text editor makes you happy. Find the line that says SET targetNearestDistance and change the number in quotes to however many yards you want it to be.

if this line does not exist, Add it.

ex.

Code:

SET targetNearestDistance "30"

Before it was possible to set targetnearestdistance in config.wtf to insane values like 400 yards, which allowed you to see your arena opponets before the match started. However in a recent patch (2.3?) blizzard fixed it and the maximum targetnearestdistance is now 50 yards (no matter where you set it), if you put higher I'm not sure what will happen. (will it just make it 50? will it ignore it? ect)

which allowed you to see your arena opponets before the match started

But they don't exist really before the match starts, unless that's a new thing... even using haxx to get to the opponents prep area, they are invisible until match starts.

Targetnearestdistance seems to work fine in a targeting macro I use, but I haven't tried it out to 50 (or beyond)

hunters mark has a range of 100 yards so maybe that's why you are getting marked from so far away.
