I'll explain why I use quickblade and not aurora.
It's basically about this: 20% crit vs 20 % haste. I suppose it's fun to shoot fast and cast faster but if it doesn't do the damage that you want, it's no fun at all. I rock with 20% crit & 10% versa because I want to see those juicy 2000+ aimed shot crits.

You must see it from this point of view. You are in a battleground 10v10, you stand in the background and get berserker. You use the JC trinket + blood fury (orc racial). At this point you are god, no matter what you shoot at, it will die.
Aimed shot + Arcane shot + auto shot, you can count on 3500+ damage if it crits. (+ another 1500 from the weapon enchant if it procs)
I do have to say here, that I have the scaled Boomstick, which makes your base damage go up by a lot compared to heirloom.

It requires 0 skill but it's so much fun to see. As few days ago I global-ed a mage twink with 3400 hp and you could just see he was like " WTF ", he didn't release his corpse for at least a minute probably checking the combat logs. Afterwards I talked to him on his server and he indeed was checking combat logs. (He's now re-rolling a hunter.)

You ask if I use the same build for survival, once you play MM hunter and see those crits, you don't play survival anymore. So I cannot answer that question for you. In the end you are going to have to chose for yourself what you like to play with. Everybodies playstyle is different.

    Kind regards

does 39 surv gain additional melee abilities? Because at 29 surv does very limited melee damage, which is good because you dont want to be in melee range in almost every scenario outside wingclipping things that need snaring or other utility oriented roles. And i heard a rumor warriors, rogues and even the occasional feral druid or ret pally lurk in this 'melee' area and they are agressive as fuck.

If you actually look at the data for raptor strike damage it is literally the same as an auto attack, and auto attack with the advantage of being unconfined by a swing timer. Which is useful when squeezing out as much output as possibvle to kill something close to dead but hardly a reason to interact intimately with the previously mentioned classes
