Super Confused about ilvl 87 Gear (lvl 20 DH) - Subbed - Help?

20 DH, Tank/Vengeance - XP OFF - Subbed w/Shadowlands

I have a few ilvl 87 peices, however, i have No idea how i got them; Seems they jsut 'showed up' in my bank/bags/equipped after the patch ..
In chatting with other players in game, i get super mixed answers about how/where/when, and what may increase the chances ..

Q: am i missing something here? is there a CLEAR post that covers where/how/etc on this?
I've not been able to follow the conflicting info i've gathered so far - Please guys, your thoughts?

Dungeon epics are ilvl 87, whether they drop as epic (like Ironfoe, Baron Rivendares Sword, etc) or they proc warforged epic (WOD dungeons) or theyre quest rewards from quests *inside* dungeons that proc epic, they'll be ilvl 87

Soo, based off this, what are my odds of actually getting that ilvl 87 on an instance drop?
super low? cause i've seen several 20's with MANY MANY 87's

Its not horrible. If you are soloing you should get one every few runs.

A lot of those folks are pretty hardcore and have been putting in work since before pre-patch

I have no idea how long it would take to just slap on a set of full 87s. But full socket 87s with desirable terts? See ya next xpac.

I'm not sure about epics from Pandaria dungeons, can you confirm it too?

I too had such instance happened with me.
Had this unremarkable cape that i got from Azuna questing a year ago, and stored it in the bank for disenchantment purposes. Then after the pre-patch dropped, it turned purple and became ilvl87

Nope, someone who plays retail will have to fill in that blank for you. I *think* they dont scale to 87. But Im not terrible sure why I think that.

They dont in the dungeon journal for sure. I havent been able to get the epic mace to drop for me so I have not been able to confirm if its just a bug in the journal ( although all the blues scale correctly)

I'm not sure about epics from Pandaria dungeons, can you confirm it too?

I can confirm pre obtained ones being ilvl87, but Journal says ilvl61 for new drops so can’t confirm those, had this one for a while.

Some Legion Epics also proc'd ilvl differently - the purple proc'd Sylvanas' Barbed Arrow went to ilvl 87 but the Signet of Stormwind purple proc'd went to ilvl 67

Similarly with other xpac purple proc'd items some went to ilvl 54 or ilvl 67 and others went to ilvl 87
