Strydar's 39 Hunter Guide - brought to you by <Pocket Change>

Coupla' points on this well-written guide.

1. Expert Goldminer's helmet is worthless(mostly) for hunters as expertise has no impact on ranged DPS.

2. Nocturnal headpiece of monkey should be included as well for hunters who want more crit than int, also making sure to note that they need Careful Aim for Eagle to even be remotely good.

3. Include [item]Nightscape Headband[/item] as an alternative since it is much easier to find and only has 4 less armor than Nocturnal headpiece.

4. Green Lens of int, stam, AND eagle is no longer craftable. It only comes in various spell-powers and Regeneration.

5. Include [item]Darkmoon Pendant[/item] as an alternative neckpiece since it is just as good as any other for the added crit from the 6 agi.

6. Someone else already pointed out that you linked the leather BoA shoulders instead of the hunter ones.

7. I'd like to see [item]Parachute Cloak[/item] as a cloak alternative for engineers since it has quite a bit of utility in battlegrounds, and having 8 agility to boot is the best you can get for a pure AP build.

8. [item]Green Whelp Armor[/item] Should be an alternative to be considered for every class that can use leather. The utility for it is phenomenal despite its low level and useless stat.

9. [item]Imposing Bracers[/item] and Tracker's Wristguards both come in "Of Power" giving 20 AP (felt it should be included in the guide for pure AP builds)

10. For 2-Hand weapons, you missed Savagery enchant. If you have a 2-handed weapon, it should have 70 AP and no other enchant is nearly as good. Furthermore, if you use PoD on a hunter, I would... kinda' be upset... They should be sold to warrior/shaman/Pally twinks... It should never be used on a hunter for a build that isn't proven to do as well as normal hunter builds.

11. Nordic Longshank is Horde only.

12. [item]Sacrificial Kris[/item] of power is a good dual wield choice for pure AP.

13. [item]Defiler's Chain Girdle[/item] is the best pure AP choice for waists.

14. An ongoing issue I found with your guide, it doesn't recommend for people to go for "Of the Falcon" items, which are some of the best, specifically for boots, revelosh gloves, etc.

15. [item]Wolf Rider's Leggings[/item] of power for pure AP, though I would argue that they're worse than Basilisk legs.

16. (Going back in time to chests) [item]Huntsman's Armor[/item] of Power is the best for pure AP, though it's certainly not a ton better than Robes of Lich for it.

17. I can't agree with having Focused Aim in Legolas Build mainly because I think there's little to no excuse for any hunter to not have Comfortable Leather Hat and Surefooted, which puts them very close to hitcap and are both fantastic aside. These frees up 3 points for 1 point in Go For the Throat, which will increase the damage done by your pet substantially, and the other 2 points in Barrage, increasing Multi-Shot's damage output a large amount.

18. The fact that you don't have Deflection in any build is a little disconcerting. The first effect is quite negligible(though decent for your survival build), but the second effect is great for any ranged hunter. Reducing disarm effects by 50% reduces most of what a warrior/rogue has on you provided they can't down you instantly anyway.

19. You included "Human" in races.... Obviously hunters cannot be human...

20. (Just so I can have an even 20) Well done with this nice guide. Keep up the good work. =P

EDIT: And The World of Warcraft Armory

That's my build for something to consider. It gives the utility of disarms sucking against you, having 3/3 L&L, and the extra crit % at the end of the SV build, though I'll admit that not having Mortal Strikes tends to upset me a little, this is still, not only a viable build, but a very good build that leaves me in good places every battleground. =]

1. Removed

2. Included

3. Included - but against my better judgement - this is not the "Find Easy Items to Twink Your 39 Hunter." It's a guide to get items that will allow you to twink your hunter the best you can - therefore, the Headband is redundant.

4. Clarified/Corrected

5. Included

6. Added Hunter Shoulders

7. Already was included under the Engineering Section

8. Not going to Include

9. Included

10. Included

11. Corrected - couldn't believe I missed this as it's in my build

12. Corrected

13. This made no sense to me - were you trying to link the level 39 Item?

14. Included

15. Included

16. Included

17. Disregarded - please note - I suggested you to play with your builds - if one wanted to use an enchant other than the Hit Rating on gloves or something other than Surefooted on feet - the point is play with your builds. Mine were just some thought starters. If you would like to post a build on this thread and give it a cute name and write up, I'll certainly consider adding it to the guide.

18. See above

19. Corrected

20. Thank you very much.

1. Please include the Falcon versions - i.e. [ITEM]Tracker's belt[/ITEM] of the Falcon, boots of the falcon, [ITEM]aquamarine signet[/ITEM] of the falcon, etc.

2. Please remove the stupid rogue shoulders and chest and put the hunter versions in, as was pointed out already.

3. [ITEM]Assault Band[/ITEM] is better than the WSG rings. In fact, I don't even consider the WSG rings to be a viable option for hunters because of the strength. [ITEM]Ring of the Underwood[/ITEM], [ITEM]Mark of Kern[/ITEM], and [ITEM]Deadman's Hand[/ITEM] are actually viable options. But, I think everyone should be able to get the Aquamarine and assault bands easily enough.

4. You did not include [ITEM]Feathered Arrow[/ITEM]

5. I don't think that [ITEM]Scorpashi Cape[/ITEM] is all that great for hunters since strength is a mediocre stat for them. You should include the green cloaks of the monkey and falcon +7/+6. i.e. [ITEM]Champion's Cape[/ITEM] of the Falcon

6. Mention that [ITEM]Deadly Scope[/ITEM] cannot be put on the BoA gun or bow, only the +2 scope can.

7. +6 stats and +150 health cannot be put on the BoA chest (at least I don't think so)

8. [ITEM]Pendulum of Doom[/ITEM] ? - please, the hunter that actually equips this needs to be shot by his own gun no matter what build they are planning. Hunters need weapons with stats that benefit them. This does not have any stats. Much better off using [ITEM]Bloodied Arcanite Reaper[/ITEM] with +25 AG or +22 Int buff on it. Or maybe even this...[ITEM]Dignified Headmaster's Charge[/ITEM]

9. You should include this as well. [ITEM]Aquamarine Pendant of the Warrior[/ITEM]. It is basically the same AP as [ITEM]Medal of Courage[/ITEM] and it can give you and all party members 15 stamina which is greater than 9 stamina. It has 10 charges, so it would be good to have a few of them.

1. added of the Falcon where available - however, not available in belt and some other items.

2. Removed - but can hunters wear the items or not b/c there are still some great stats on these if they can - and you don't need to call the items stupid implying frustration with me...

3. Moved Assault Bands up - not adding other items.

4. Added - and pleased to know this exists. :)

5. Not adding at this time - get to it later.

6. Not including as I did not call out what you can apply to other pieces in other sections. I do expect some research to be done by the reader.

7. See Above

8. Leaving PoD because of information at opening of guide. If there's something you really want to do, go for it. I have talked to some people that want to pound in melee. Is it smart? Not right now it isn't, but who knows. I am simply saying that if you think you might want to use the item, get it if you can - as it's very difficult to acquire.

9. I didn't like the item because the used effect goes away after you die - which forces you to keep popping charges - unless that's changed... I'm not going to include it.

Thanks for making the changes.

1. yes, I had intended on linking the 28 belt for hunters/shamans.

It sacrifices 10 armor, 5 stam, and about .4% crit in exchange for 15 AP.

A fair trade for someone going for an AP build.

EDIT: upon trying to link it once again, twinkinfo automatically changes the link to the 58 version of Defiler's Chain Girdle, item number #20150, instead of the level 28 version, #20152

2. While I still disagree about green whelp armor, it is your guide.

I think you should include Deadman's Hand as well. Once again, the amount of utility should make up for a lack of stats. However, this is merely the same recommendation as GWA.

However, if you don't include either of these, please do not include PoD.

If someone really wants a utility-survivability build, both Deadman's Hand and GWA should be employed, and I think giving them fair advertisement is necessary.

Even if it's not the best build possible. ;P

Thanks again for making such a good guide.

I may take you up on the offer for me to write a small utility-damage guide for you to add.

Well, again, my thought on the PoD is that it's so hard to come by - that if you can get your hands on it - hold onto it. That's why I include that and not the Whelp Armor. :)

When I get some time - I'll throw the Deadman's Hand in there - the 10 Stam is nice with the utility.

First of all, since I forgot to say it the first time. Excellent guide overall, and we all appreciate the hard work you put into it.

1. Not sure if clicked on the link for the belt that I put, but it actually shows that there is in fact a falcon version. My 39 hunter has the +9/+9 version. I also have +9/+9 boots, +7/+6 cloak, +8/+7 ring. For helm, I think the best version is like +10/+10 so not really that great.

2. Sorry, I didn't mean to call it stupid or come off like that. I was typing that up while at work, and I must have been rushing through it. Anyway, you can use the rogue shoulders, I just don't rank them very high for hunters when the hunter version (herod's - see below) is so much better for them.

8. I understand what your point was about PoD, but does it really have a place in a guide that is to help people make better hunters? I am sure any 39 twink hunter in their right mind would not use it for their hunter. I know you suggest to sell it, but if that is the case why have it as the best 2hander slot for a hunter. To even include it here suggests that it is a potential option for hunters when there are far better 2handed weapons.

Well, again, my thought on the PoD is that it's so hard to come by - that if you can get your hands on it - hold onto it.

Not sure what the validity of this statement is. It does not justify why it is included in a hunter guide other than for vanity reasons.

To be honest, I love the guide, but the inclusion of the PoD, no matter how rare it is or how awesome it is in the right hands (for say a pally, warrior, or shammy), it bugs me to see it in a guide for building good hunters.

9. Well you included the Lodestone neck which seemed sort of weak (unless there was a falcon version). So, I thought this was a viable option. Even without the +15 stam buff you always have the +20 AP which, so I figure it was still pretty good. The +15 stam is a party buff and you can use it during ideal circumstances. i.e. when you are not dying every minute and staying together as a group (btw alliance doesn't know how to do this in my battlegroup).

Looking at the updated guide, I now have the following additional suggestions.

1. You added the BoA shoulders from Stone Keeper Shards, but not the one you get with emblems which is BIS for hunters. [ITEM]Champion Herod's Shoulder[/ITEM]

2. The aquamarine ring has a Falcon version, since you include the other versions...

3. BOA chests? I'm pretty sure you once had the rogue version of the BoA chest piece. Were you going to add the hunter version? "Champion's Deathdealer Breastplate" (wouldn't work in wowhead link). I'm pretty sure this will be BiS even with the +4 stats vs. +6 stat enchantments.

Thank you.

Thanks for additional feedback footprints. I'll get additional items out there - I appreciate it.

Foot, you're coming off as extremely arrogant in your first post.

Feathered Arrows can only be obtained once (by each character level 35+). They are a reward (200 of them) for a quest that requires 35 to obtain it in Desolace. Unless you want to level a DK over and over for sub-par arrows, there is no reason to include them.

"Rogue" BoA's are a great option as it allows you to get the soft hit cap (30 Hit Rating) while getting more AP than any other option.

I know a few people that have equipped PoD's on their Hunters. One was a big preacher of the Melee Hunter before it got nerfed, and the other has a ridiculous amount of G and nothing better to do with it. It's their gold, let them do what they will with it.

Green Lens still can be bought as Of Stam, Int, Eagle etc. they just can't be made.

[item]Battlehard Cape[/item] Horde only cloak that is BC Enchantable.

[item]Robe of Crystal Waters[/item] Alliance only chest piece that is BC Enchantable.

[item]Sniper Rifle[/item] Of Marksmanship. Has a 3.0 speed which is the slowest ranged weapon speed in the 39s bracket. Great for kiting and the other points given to you by other posters.

1h weapons:

[item]Sword of Serenity[/item]

[item]Dwarf Captain's Sword[/item] These are 2 alliance only swords that can be gotten for whatever purposes. Can be mixed with an AP weapon to balance a bit more stamina into a DW build.

Dual Vanquisher Swords can be obtained via Faction Swaps, but I'm sure you already know this.

Just add the AB Belts like others have mentioned, nothing wrong there.

Basilisk Hide Pants are getting a buff of +3 Hit instead of +3 Spirit at sometime in the future, might want to mention that.

Great guide overall that will definitely be helpful to new hunters. Just a few things you missed.

This isn't even my own Hunter, but this would be my ideal setup if I had BoA's:
