EU+US Starting a f2p account

Hey all. Feel like a bit of a challenge and would like to create a f2p account. Any suggestions, tips before i start it? Also Opinions on classes etc as f2p would be appreciated. Cheers

Depends how fast you want to level to 20.
While F2P I personally like to level to 10, then bg from 10 - 20. I avoid doing quests and stuff after level 10 so I can get as many 10 - 19 bg's in. That's my preferred way to play F2P but that's not for everyone. Some like to power level to 20 then gear up and do the 20 - 29 bracket. You get there eventually doing it my way but you get to have heaps of fun in the lower bracket.
Also, when gear mattered in bg's, I would lock XP at 15, quest and dungeon for the best gear at 15, do the profession grind and swaps and then chant / patch up and unlock XP again and bg from 15 - 20. Probably not viable anymore in Legion as gear doesn't matter so much in bg's.
If your looking for things to do while bg'ing 10 - 19 just level your 2ndry professions. This avoids gaining XP to maximise your time in the 10 - 19 bracket.
As for classes, I think most are viable in someway these days. Just choose your favourite and go from there.
I enjoy the challenge of having limited resources, bag space etc. You need to source all your own mats etc. Makes it a fun challenge so have fun ;)

Try ret pally. Self heals, can tank, rips 99% of things apart, has a stun, etc. In pve and pvp, it's god tier. Plus in pve, it's a melee/caster hybrid, so being able to hit stuff well above your level isn't as much of a struggle.

Most classes are viable now for this bracket.

Icehawk's suggestion is pretty fun, and Despiler is pretty right about retadins.

Personally, I say go with whatever you want to play. Consider what you'll be doing outside of (If anything) BGs. Some classes are great at soloing content, others are going to be quite difficult to solo things.

A lot of us farm achievements, and see just how much we can get done with a pure F2P. It's a lot of fun, but it's not for all.

If you want to play with me, I play on Aerie Peak US. :)

AP, BH, and Stormrage seem to be the biggest communities.

Stormrage is my main server, and I was surprised at how many twinks would pop up if I mentioned something in trade

Play a healer and help others. You will be a target of the "good" DPS. Only the bad DPS will ignore you. As any good player knows the healer should be first target. Which generally means that you face the best people. And you face a lot of them. That is why I only play healers. Playing a DPS is easy. DPS players are a dime a dozen. Pure healers on the other hand are far more rarer.

As Celax here stated, if you plan on getting some achievements you need to keep that in mind. Achievements may or may not be for you. Some people like them some do not. I personally do. There is also pet hunting.
With acheivements in mind, remember that some classes can queue as tank or heal or DPS. This may shorten or lengthen your queue times. Your choices may depend on whether you like range or melee classes too. Whether or not you like a class with a lot of defenses. A class that is very mobile. These are the questions only you can answer.

To add to this, some classes can also queue as one thing and perform that role and another.

Pally can queue as tank and dps or vice versa. I've even tried queuing as a Hpal and ended up tanking the whole instance.

Priests can queue as heals and then dps the whole time (I love discs so much).

IMO hunter pally and droods are the best for solo play or achievement hunting, either because of mobility, self heals, or the fact that all 3 hit like trucks with physical attacks.

Here's the cool thing about F2P

You can have one of every class, fully geared, in very little time. There's no need to commit to one class.

I prefer to play my warrior. I pvp on her and try to do my achievement hunting on her exclusively. But I imagine eventually that I'll need a pally or a druid or a hunter to get a few of the more demanding ones. So I have those toons leveled, geared and ready to rock.

Edit: I would say, however, that one of my big regrets was not joining one of the main community hubs. Being on Jaedenar is quite lonely.

my take on this would be going to:

1. finish quests in the starter zone.
2. play pvp a few times when you have all green gear on your character (rings and neckless are optional).
3. if horde, complete forsaken quest lines through silverpine and hillsbrad and if alliance, redridge and duskwood.
4. go though dungeons to get the rest of the gear slots.
5. get 100 tickets for the heirloom gear in darkmoon (since blizz kicked us out the honor buttons to get heirloom gear from the overworld pvp venders).
6. pvp at 20 once you've nearly all blue gear on your toon (ring from ashlandvale never again! and heirloom gear are exceptions).
and finally
7. explore a bit to see the sites, complete all quests that you've didn't get earlier that's unlockable for us, and get items that most people don't usually get for bragging rights.

Can we make a list of exactly which zones we can complete quests in? Like the equivalents of Northshire, Elwynn Forest, Redridge, Duskwood, etc

not really my say so, namely because everyone plays and experiences things differently in this game.

but if ya wanted the quest lists, start off by completing all quests in the starter zone your character is associated with it (like tauren with mulgore, gnomes/dwarfs in dun morogh, worgen with gilneas, and etc.) just to get the feel of what the lore of the race your playing and as I stated earlier to get green gear if you want to pvp early on before ya get into the 20-29 bracket (that way you wouldn't get pwned from the people that do have decent gear *cough*19s*cough*).

the main reason why I've said, "redridge, duskwood, silverpine, and hillsbrad" was because they've got strong blues for the slots at the end of long quest chain.

if ya wanted to get the other ones (in my opinion)
westfall and ghostlands: for the transmog weapons/shields
northern barrons and loch modan: for fun and grind
bloodmist ile: for armor mogs and alli tabord.
ashland vale: for ring, weapons, and pvp
wetlands: for getting additional items (there's not really that much for wetlands to offer tbh)
azshara: for faded hat and HADOKEN!!!! <- you'll get what i'm talking about once ya finish the zone

gonna finish off by saying that i'm not the deciding factor for anyone's experience, it's up to ya to decide what ya wanna do with my own opinion of experience in this game.

i disagree on the rings and necklace part. you should take up mining and jewelcrafting to get those slots filled up. you can get 2 rings almost instantly that requires level 10 to equip. and necklace (if you arent veteran and dont have heirloom one) at 20 jewelcrafting skill that requires level 13. those slots will give you about 10% stats in bgs

that might of been the case awhile back when wod still around, but the problem is now blizz is going by ilvl with gear now for bgs not stats. would of added leveling professions earlier for my second decision and had what i had now for third if ilvl wasn't a thing.

Filling up every slot is what gives you a good, solid stat template.
