Should Banned Users Lose Their Badges?

It's called being "grounded". It worked for me when I was a child.
Authority takes a "privilege" away. When you do your time you get your "privilege" returned. Person learns their lesson, if they are astute.

This could be implemented very poorly or very well or even not at all.
The offending party could get a) an infraction first time b) spend some of those"trophy points" we have c) 24 HR ban for the first offense.
It then escalates to a 24hr ban (I prefer "a" option).
It then then escalates to 7 days and no badges for 30 days.
It then escalates to 30 days and 1 year.
The escalation cycle would reset every 60 days. (You get a freebie every 60 days)

The way you explain it makes a lot of sense, perhaps I was too fast with the typing. I thought that you'd just have your badges removed once banned.

You would have to get "banned" three times by today's standard. 1) infraction 2) 24 hours 3) 7 day and loss of badge privilege. Might just set some people on the straight and narrow.

Now, they would come back after 30 days. But come on, after two slaps on the wrist in 60 days? Having your comment or thread deleted does not mean you have committed a ban worthy offense. It just means it was seen as "inappropriate". The administration would need to be careful. Give a warning, ban, ban again, then ban longer. We just need to lay down some ground rules. Whatever they may be. It won't be fair to people to ban them if they do not understand rules that don't exist.

First of all @Conq or whoever are dealing out these recent bans, have you stopped giving out infractions and warnings before a ban? And if so, do you really think that is the best way of handling toxicity?

And secondly I agree with Onlydreams, the TC Champion badge etc are not a bragging badge, it seems the people who feels this way though, are people that don't have said badges themself?... I havn't seen a single serious post where someone insinuated that what they posted were of bigger value because they had a certain badge.

And it's not like the "unwin" the TC if you remove their badge?

And lastly @Allybeboba and everyone else the ban system that we have today is more than fine; first ban is 24 hours, second is 48, third is 96 etc etc.

My inclination is to let the badges remain. It shows that no one is exempt from expectations of constructive participation on the site.

If a person took the time and effort to earn a badge or three, and then went out of their way to cause problems to the point of getting grounded or even kicked off the site, then the badges take on a second meaning -- a reminder that the people who frequent this site and the people who run the site will not put up with crap just because a person got recognized for previous accomplishments.

I don't have an issue with the ban system in effect now. It does not effect me in the least as I won't get banned for committing such atrocities. I don't commit them in the first place.
