PTR Shadowlands Level Squish on Beta

All righty guys, I got an invite to Beta Shadowlands and wanted to show you some of the level squish stuff, not sure if anyone has shown it yet, but I'ma post, and enjoy! So just to add, lv. 100 gear and lv. 101 gear is going to be the same level now, I.E. lv. 40 > < 40 kind of weird if you ask me! So just to go over the items in the bags, the Basilisk hide pants is lv. 38 currently on Live, while it is 16 on beta. The twisted chanter's staff is 19 on live while 9 on beta. the Jungle Assassin's Footpads are lv. 100 on live, while 40 on beta, the girdle of crumbling sanctum is lv. 110 on live, but now lv. 45, teebus is lv. 60 on live, but lv. 25 on beta. I've been buying epic items for cheap across the US for months now, at any level that i can get my hands on, however, I am starting to see that its almost impossible to get full twink items, i.e. when i buy a 29 its not going to 19, etc. i will continue to post if i find more stuff related to twinking. but ferender and winterly have posted some stuff that pretty much indicates what we have long expected. Which is, with the exception of some ilvl 31 and epic weapons/offhand, you’re probably gonna replace every slot. Some folks might even end up replacing weapons (there’s 3 socket 2hander in a TBC dungeon, for instance)

Interesting, I didn't even opt-in, I just got a random email telling me I got invited haha. I guess the rumors were incorrect. If you got the invite, all you do is change the version of world of warcraft by going to the left corner of the battle net launcher, and choose Shadowlands Beta, log in through there and bam, you in.

i dont know how good the low level twink gears are .. its not the ilvl or the lvl .. its literally the stats on the item, they have almost the same value .. the effect will be really small .. even all the way till lvl101 .. the ilvl194 and the ilvl169 are both ilvl50 in SL .. i think the higher lvl twink items can still make some difference, maybe from lvl58 and higher cos they start to have sockets

i have not actually look at weapons .. i think some items have a bigger difference .. still waiting to get into beta to check, but i think rings retain a better value in SL .. and items with effects retain better value too .. are you able to confirm that ?

I can tomorrow potentially. What do I look for when looking for these better values being retained? I have destiny's I can compare, I'm sure I have other items i can look at too, but I dont have any dungeon / bg twink gear

Oh hell yeah! I'm pretty sure we are going to be able to do all the leveling content considering that you can choose whatever xpac you want to level in! So between 7 expansions I think everyone is gonna be pretty epicd out with sockets lol! And legion artifacts too! I'm just curious if we can get into raids and go for sick item sets, trinkets, etc. Also, the weapon upgrades from legion raids from antorus.

regearing is a definite .. i have a feeling blizz will remove that delayed enchanting on shoulders and leggings .. so if worry about that happening sooner than later, then got to find the correct gear and enchant them while it can still be done, likewise for gems, some gears' usable lvl has shifted .. no idea if all the gems retain their exact usable lvl or shift as well

What do I look for when looking for these better values being retained?

what i meant was .. i notice rings stats loses fewer value, eg. the haste on a ilvl169 "rings" converts at 1.77 (85 to 48 from BFA to SL) but the haste on a ilvl194 "shoulder" converts at 2.44 (from 22 to 9) .. this means the ilvl194 loses about 38% conversion compared with the ilvl169

the same thing happens on item esp. trinkets, that proc an effect, they dont drop 2.5 times, but we need more figures to verify this, and if it only happens at higher up gears or it happens at every lvl including the current late 30s onwards .. i think hunters have trinkets that proc at lvl30

the worst thing is Winterly showed that ilvl164 and ilvl194 "Cyno's Mantle of Sin", 164 normal and 194 titanforge, they gave the exact same value in SL lololol .. that will suck big time for people holding tons of high ilvl 101 boes lolol

I don't have like any "geared" 120s or anything, but I do have just the rank 1 cloak on a 120, so maybe this will help out haha.

That's super helpful -- thank you! So at this point, it sounds like BoEs are getting scaled to the SL equivalent of their original form. In other words, no matter what scaled version of the Twisted Chanter's Staff you have, the original staff required level 19, and will scale to require level 9 in SL. That explains why Droolz found that the BoEs he farmed in Silithus all scaled to SL 24, since the non-scaled versions originally required level ~58 (level 60 ==> SL level 25).

From a Blizzard programming perspective, this makes perfect sense. They likely implemented a scaling system based on the hardcoded stats associated with each item ID (which included item level and required level), and to do the SL squish, they plan to simply remove the scaling, and re-scale. They're not going to double-scale i.e. re-scale the scaled item.

Two thoughts on this: one, those twinkers who tricked GMs into scaling down Silithus gear or got ilvl 180 drops for their lower-level characters are in for a surprise when the prepatch drops. Two, it's a shame that 39s (SL 17s, and some will level to SL 19) will lose the option to use some of these Silithus BoEs. That could have made for some interesting and difficult decisions between that and the inevitable influx of socket gear.

I got a boomstick i can check. Cloak is super worth upgrading if you want corruption resistance so you can use more corrupted effects til patch is over, I'll check on the Cape too and get back to you on both
