rogue, assass / combat

did anyone have any success at all with any other build than hemo?

i tried a backstabber build yesterday, (for the third time, one time each year when i forget how bad it is) took it into battleground and found that even level 31 hunters was now a threat. backstab hitting for 250, critting max 6-700, and having the energy to.. do nothing.

needless to say, after the bg i specced back. what a utterly useless spec.

(used Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft + wsgdagger with 7dmg)

I cannot bear hemo spec, I've always ran combat daggers and I find lots of fun, while topping dps in practically every BG I go into.

I have the full BOA stuff, but currently wearing it on another char.

Where is the point in combat daggers w/o specced Backstap? I remember it to be a quite successful raiding specc for rogues@70, at least in the t5 instances, but in twink PvP?

I prefer slow swords/maces until you can get Mutilate. But at 39 I dont know if there is a decent dagger spec... I have seen alot of 29ers with daggers.

I tried out numerous backstab builds and I really didn't like any of them. I was energy starved the whole time and if I got an unlucky non-crit backstab streak I got fucked, which happened quite a lot. Hemo actually has more burst in my opinion, due to fast cp building and eviscerate crits, and it gives you a lot of versatility.

The only "dagger build" that worked for me was Hemo with Improved Ambush. It works pretty well against cloth classes, if the ambush crits.

I played 8/0/22 for a week or 2 and it worked fine but Im almost always heavy assisted by gm8s but I still prefer hemo cuase rogues is more there to stun and cc than pure burst.

49 is more burst friendly :)

If I recall correctly, part of the potential in backstab builds was that backstab scaled with gear, back when evis didn't, making it better for burst when your gear was high enough. Not as much now.

One of the best dagger rogues I knew played 17/3/10 with the backstab and gouge glyph before the backstab glyph got nerfed hard. He would open with CS, and just melee while gaining energy, then gouge and just wait til his energy topped off again, then backstab, followed by a KS then another backstab before that wore off. It basically allowed you 13.5 seconds of a locked down enemy 8 of which you were meleeing them, and 2 glyphed backstabs (30% damage increase I believe it was) with ~45% crit. It was pretty devastating, and I would guess it would still be the best set up for a backstab build, but the nerf of the backstab glyph hurt.

Code:

CS>Gouge>BS>KS>BS

improved ambush does crit a lot.. back when u still could use 55 ap legpatches and naxx shoulders it would really give nice crits on clothies

i was full subt with a glass cannon gear back then

really? What skills do you use the most?

Actually my current build is slightly off (missing improved gouge, dunno why), the base skills of my combat are CC with Improved Gouge and Kidney Shot, and Backstab.

This is the right one: Icarus Talent's

I open with ambush, then constantly circle strafe while in combat, spamming CC and backstab when in 1 on 1; if I'm against more than 1, then add Blade Flurry which is terribly effective, and so is Blade Twisting.

Most of the time I BG in PUG with no healers, and enemies jump at me like Sale at Victoria’s Secret; that's when Endurance and Lightning Reflexes do make a difference. I found myself very resilient, which I consider essential on this particular context.

@ Neratho: Good question. Only thing is I don't rely that much on having +30% crit on backstab, I already have a decent % of crit thanks to my template, agi stuff and maxed master of anatomy. I rather take its extra 10% damage from Blade Twisting, plus the daze effect which occurs quite often.

I'm a combat spec, subtlety and combo points aren't really my thing, I don't often use Sinister Strike, all my combo points go into Kidney Shot and Slice and Dice, all my energy goes into Backstab and Gouge.

I love to duel Hemos, good ones sometimes defeat me, but must of the time it is I who arises victorious.

For me it’s about landing every blow and mastering the situation, I like the feel of combat spec much better than the others, feeling every incoming and outgoing blow to the face, maybe because my main is a Fury War, I’m not so much into subtlety ^^

P.S. My glyphs might also be a bit off, I’ve been /abs >3 months.

Wow, thanks for pointing out your situation and your playstyle. I really start feeling the idea, though I think you'd do better with the Mallet and a Hemo specc, but I'm sure you know that yourself. Finally someone that plays what he likes the most instead of playing what's most effectvive. Props.
