So, [MENTION=11173]Purse[/MENTION] made a thread about Rift going free to play completely http://www.twinkinfo.com/forums/f43/rift-now-completely-free-play-no-restrictions-anything-49866/ (Thanks a lot Purse :D). The only things you need to pay for I think are some specializations and classes but they're not much of a difference. Level 50 is the level cap at the moment. If you haven't heard about this, maybe give it a go here. RIFT®

Ok now anyways. This thread is for people that are currently playing Rift or just got into it or whatever. Comment your character names, faction, race and your server below. I'm currently a level 2 Eth Warrior Hoplite named Xanzey on Seastone PvP US. I'm going to make a dwarf mage right now on guardians so if you're on guardians add me. His name will be Xansay :p Ok so yeah, comment all your names so people can add you!

how big is the download? i wanna give this a try b/c WoW is getting boring AF.
 
OMG! I stopped playing rift like 4 months ago cuz it felt to complicated and pvp was horrible since the brackets are 10 lvls...

But ima get it back I already have a lvl 20 "human" mage I think its called mathosian on seastone

I made a Defiant Cleric (Shaman) named Venemist on Seastone today. I played this when the level cap was 20 for f2p but lost interest at 20. I'm definitely interested in long term gaming on Rift, but I hope it's a lot more interesting than Aion was (that game also went f2p).Still downloading currently. Hopefully will be done by tomorrow. Currently playing with it downloading in the background to level a bit.Even though it's a PvP server, I'd really like to do dungeons and someday raids as well :)
 
I played Rift at launch got bored as my friends left and went back to wow, sounds like fun if a community from wow starts playing =D i'll download sometime this week!
Plus i fear 5.4 will spoil my f2p enjoyment.

Rift isn't dead.... there's alot of people right now. It's nothing like wow. Just because there's typical classes and all that kind of stuff doesn't automatically make it a wow copy. It's unique in it's own way. WoW copies alot of other games also... so there's really no argument there.

People play Rift now because it's free. Every "WoW clone" dies because there are too many similarities with a game they already have (WoW), and therefore they won't bother starting all over.
 
Rift offers more than just a "cloned" WoW experience, however

yes, i'd say 90% of the systems/mechanics/appearance is pretty damn similar... but Rift has made improvements in some areas of WoW which gives it a slight edge

not having to pay a sub for endgame PVE/PVP is also a huge plus. of course Rift only got its 1st xpac recently and doesn't have the 5 expacs worth of content that WoW does.

but Rift has a huge team behind it and from all the communication from the devs, there's guaranteed support for years to come, unlike other WoW clones which die off because the development team ditches it or the company runs out of money

Rift is going to be around for years to come, and by going F2P with freemium cosmetic options, only strengthens its longevity in the MMORPG market.
