reviving my old priest

i used to play a 39 shadow priest back in BC, but once they nurfed the head and leg enchants i lost interest, and our local 39 twink guild broke up, he just sat there unplayed. i am very much interested in reviving him, and am looking for any advice on what needs updating, what is grandfathered, and if shadow is the way to go, or should i try disc or holy. i have full heirlooms i can supply him (except dread pirates ring) but am unsure or some pieces still. some of my gear even says requires level 40 now, yet hes wearing them still, but i am assuming the stats are not being counted and removing the gear would prevent future equipping. i will go log him on now and check out my stats vs heirlooms, but i wanted to get this posted in the meantime. as always, thanks for you're time =D

Prob the best shadow priest in the bracket. Think he's logged out w/o BoA helm but that's what he'd be using.

Shadow is extremely strong and you'll definitely enjoy it. Just remember that those super powerful bubbles of yours are also helpful to your teammates ; )

so you would suggest using BoA helm over a green lens. this sounds reasonable, and would probably lead me to reroll to skin and herb like he has, but i'll just wait for more input before i go and drop engineering, just to play it safe =D thanks though =D

Yes BoA helm is effin amazing if you have access to it. Make sure you have both herb and the Emissary's Watch trinket to stack them for burst potential. I recommend going heavy on crit and haste at the expense of sta (without going TOO glassy), cuz spriests are very durable.

Disc is a very good spec as well.

Dignified Headmaster's Charge and Tattered Dreadmist Mask should be the first BoA's on your list to purchase.

speaking of dorigonne =D

so i'll assume that my old trinkets (mark of the chosen and tidal charm) are out the window (i spent a year getting tidal charm!) as with all that engineering crap. also, no real reason to keep my enchanting, right? so ill go herb/skin like my 14 priest has. and i have all my heirlooms already to go, just havn't enchanted them, but looks like i wont be using chest or cloak anyways? gonna hate replacing my staff of jordan with a heirloom >.< but i see it's hand down better, esp with 22 int on it. also do i have any extra special grandfathered pieces i should know about? and are my old pieces that's now req 40 worthless?

Tidal Charm is definitely still good, could really screw over a healer with silence+that. No, you def don't want enchanting. As for chest, the BoA chest is good, I personally use Robe of Thousand Needles but they are about the same. Cloak, you want to use an exalted rep cloak or the one from Galgann Firehammer so that you can use 20 spell penetration cloak. Your grandfathered neck has potential when used in conjunction with the Twisted Faith talent. Rainstrider Leggings are also super amazing if you have those in your bags. The level 40 gear is all worthless. Looking at your gear, you will want to do EPL for Fiona's cloth wrists. For belt, you should use satyrmane sash or maybe an ab belt if you prefer, I like the satyrmane sash more tho. Legs you can choose between necromancer, red mageweave, and stoneweaver. BoA shoulders are pretty solid too, I use them over Inquisitor's for the crit but it's pretty much a wash.

You are going to have to assess talents and decide for yourself how you want to get hit capped. Using a Robe of Power in conjunction with surefooted enchant to boots to get hit capped is what I'd recommend if you are a giant fan of Imp MB talent and would rather forgo Twisted Faith. I use two points in TF as it also gives 2% shadow dmg and gets some use out of that spirit on Underworld Bands, in conjunction with surefooted to reach my hit cap. You've got that spirit on the GF'd neck that you could make use of too, so you can play around and see what you like - there is no generally-recognized 'best way to do it' on a spriest.

most of the stuff has already been answered so I'm gonna just say this.

Shadow is a viable DPS spec. But if your team is low on heals, then go heals.

(yes I am looking at you dori) :p

thanks everyone. in the middle of redoing profs, and gonna head out for those dreaded quest chains. might see me out and about in a few days though =D

race changed to Goblin and renamed to Tinyvoices (yes sticking with the Bad Religion theme)
