Gy farming is for the purpose of prolonging games. Containment is a valid strategy to to allow your fc to cap without being attacked. This strategy is unpopular for some people I admit but the source of the ''drop off point'' which I'm thinking you're referring to MoP after Summer, was mostly due to people being put off about the idea of chants ruining the bracket.
