If we're going back to BC then the best gems to get crit would be Smooth Lionseye - Item - World of Warcraft which would effect us differently now. We now have access to Smooth King's Amber - Item - World of Warcraft which makes Improved Hot Streak - Spell - World of Warcraft much better to gem for.

EDIT: Not to mention not having Cata talents, only using the BC ones.

I am not taking about using TBC gems. I am saying if todays 70 metagame was end game pvp, as in everyone was participating. There has never been an arena season to my knowledge, where stacking crit rating was the best way to go. It works because he makes it work, but it is far from the best way to go.

I'm saying you can't think that way when back then it was very different. If if todays 70 metagame was end game pvp it would be a very different beast than it is now and this entire thread would have a different take as we might not have the talents/spells/ratings we do now.

If you treat it like it is endgame pvp, it becomes obvious with the resources and choices available that stacking crit is not the best way to do it.

I was very specific in what I stated, you did not need to add any disclaimers, as I was displaying a point. If our meta-game was filled with skilled players, all trying their best to win, stacking crit would not be a viable way to get there. Just like no top 25 players has ever done it before. Its not about the weight of a high amount of a stat, its that after a point, other stats are always better.

So you want to treat WoW as if 70 was endgame that would be balanced around level 80 enchants and gems while using level 85 talents...

So your trying to say its the best when its not? Come on...

I'm bored, so numbers inc. Disclaimer, I threw this together rather quickly so... correct me if needed.

Pockets' Crit Gemmed Stats:

Spell Power1167

Crit Chance48.26%

Probability that Pockets will score two crits in a row for improved hot-streak:

Unbuffed: (48.26%) ^ 2 = 23.29%

Critical Mass + Molten Armor: (48.26% + 5% + 5%) ^ 2 = 33.94%

(Critical Mass + Molten Armor) + (1)Fire Blast: (48.26% + 5% + 5%) * (48.26% + 5% + 5% + 8%) = 38.60% [ Fire Spell + Fire Blast ]

Pockets' Gemmed As Intellect (chardev)

Spell Power1480

Crit Chance38.55%

Probability that Pockets will score two crits in a row for improved hot streak:

Unbuffed: (38.55%) ^ 2 = 14.86%

Critical Mass + Molten Armor: (38.55% + 5% + 5%) ^ 2 = 23.57%

(Critical Mass + Molten Armor) + (1)Fire Blast: (38.55% + 5% + 5%) * (38.55% + 5% + 5% + 8%) = 27.46% [ Fire Spell + Fire Blast ]

So the difference in crit chance is the same as the difference in crit percent? Seems like we should already have known that.

Also how much does the spell power increase your damage and how much resilience could he gain if he went that way?

302 resilience, or about 19%. The damage difference would be, well I'm guessing about a 20% increase, don't know never tweaked my mage at 70. On my priest, my smite does rougly 300 more damage for 300 sp, sounds logic. Scorch scales with roughly 42% of ur SP if I remember correctly, so that would be what 127 damage extra per non crit scorch? Pyro scales for 115 (350 damage extra per pyro), fireball for 100 (302 damage), and living bomb scales 80%(the dot does, the explosion is same as scorch and fireblast I think). This is a huge difference in damage. Bigger then the extra pyro u get once every X scorches. It is really silly to discuss this, every caster knows intellect is the most beneficent stat :/

I'm saying it is the best because of the LK enchants/gems and the Cata talents.

U just read the numbers I guess, just admit I was right and u guys aren't :/ Or are u too proud

You're wrong. I'd rather trust pockets who knows how to play/gear a 70 Fire mage than anyone who has posted here.
