Questions for someone new to F2P

Hello! My name is Viht and I have always watched the TI forums and now I decided to make an account to ask some questions I couldn't find answers for. I have experience with max level pvp and with 19 twinks and have always wanted to try a trial account. Now on to the questions..

Should I go AP?
If yes, Alliance or Horde?(Dont mind the gear too much just would like a better community)

What class should I roll? I want a class that dominates in PvP but is still good for PvE (And achievements)

What professions do I get first?

What are the biggest tips you could give someone new to F2P twinks?

I hope you see more of me, I also would like to know which faction is more populated/active on the TI forums so I can have some people to relate with.

everything inoob mentioned is viable and considered OP if played correctly,
especially those pesky disc priests -.- ( looks at randome, he made me lol so hard when he mind controlled my rogue out of the map)

also if you really are reading the TI forums actively just play whatever people are QQ'ing about since im sure they're QQ is for good reason.

I've seen you before! Apparently your good and people don't like you because of it? And yes I was looking for classes that people QQ over and in a month everyone on here will hate me.
 
Since Cross Realm Zones practically killed off any chance of getting AGMs for low level characters, on any server, there's not really any reason to roll anywhere other than AP any more (except perhaps having bad lag when playing on US servers).

There have been some complaints about the community on AP, but any community will have it's share of jerks. A big community just means theres more of them as well as more people you would want to play with. Ignore works with the addon, so if someone's being a jerk in chat, make use of it (and if the P2Ps ignore them, they can't join groups).

Horde and Alliance on AP are both pretty busy, although horde is the more popular (21:13 H:A right now). Theres nothing to stop you making characters on both sides.

Trades (the order I do them):


  • Mi+Sk until bags are full of leather/stone/ore/greens from quests and dungeons (keep all your greens).
  • Drop Mi, get Enc, DE the greens
  • Focus on Sk until you have enough leather to safely complete Lw without having Sk to get any more leather (you can always use any spare later to get BoAs from DMF)
  • Drop Sk, level Lw, DE the greens you make, and once you've got your armor patches drop Lw for Mi
  • Skill up Mi using the ore you had from the last time you had it trained.
  • You should now have enough mats to do Enc, and drop it for Jc, if not do more quests/dungeons.
  • Once you've got rings/neck from Jc, switch it to Eng for goggles, if you need them.


Tips:


  • Spend your first DMF prize ticket on a 16 slot bag.
  • Before 10 hunt the rare mobs in low level zones to get a set of 6 slot bags (you'll need them. See here and here).
  • As you get gold put it into bank slots, then upgrading to 10 slot bags.
  • You don't need to save for riding, because a couple of quests or dungeons at 20 will pay for it.
  • 10-15 do BGs and quests, 15-20 farm dungeons and quest. Remember to get tabards so you can get 16 slot bags (seriously, bags are important, without them you end up gathering trade mats twice over because you can't keep stuff).
  • Make sure to read as many guides as you can that are on the forums (some people who have taken the time to write guides don't like answering questions).
  • Don't piss off the people on the server who have been around the longest. They're the ones who end up getting ownership of the chat channel, and can ban you from it.

1.Roll AP if you're playing horde and Vashj if you're playing alliance. Could always use another player to welcome in the community
2.Any class that can heal is Op right now but hey,its better then being hit with 1k holy shocks when prepatch went live.I myself took apart of it :p very boring indeed
3.Depends really on what class and faction you will be playing
4.The biggest tip Ambassador Alorok can give you is try to not troll on the forums. A particular female Blood elf mage from AP seemed to think it would be fun >.>

Hope you find what you need. There are many resources that the community has put together to help people who are new to the bracket. Play whatever class you enjoy, and whichever faction you prefer. Experiment with different classes/factions/servers until you find something that suits you best! Good luck ^-^

Hope you find your stay enjoyable. Like others have said, I would recommend AP Horde side or Alliance side, and Vashj alli side. Class wise, I play priest and druid. Both super fun, but it just happens that both of my classes that I have for f2p became OP FOTM rerolling classes. Before I would be the only Druid or Priest, now BG's are littered with them. The F2p addon link should be working, I still need to redownload all my addons and such from when MOP patch went live. If you roll AP horde, hit me up in game for questions. I should start to play f2p again (shortly) once this p2p is done.

go blood elf paladin.These things are really OP atm ( were OP cata and required more than a 24 hunter to be kept in check).Now there is almost no stopping them xept for multiple rogues

or go druid to powershift
 
You can play AP if you like being social, non-AP if you want to not be social. I personally get as much contact with other players as I can generally stand in BGs, so a nice quiet server works best for me.

Just like to mention that if you make a Pandaren you want to do this differently. Firstly, you get no green loot on the island, secondly, there's next to nothing to skin that's involved in the quest chains, and thirdly, the mining nodes seem to respawn ridiculously fast (so I'm assuming the same is true for the herbs). The other problem with pandaren is you can't do BGs or dungeons until you get off the island and pick a faction (and get out of your white gear too), so the obvious thing to focus on instead is professions and levelling while it's easy.

If you pick mining and herbalism you might have to farm mobs a bit so you can afford big enough bags to fit everything in, but the time you spend doing that will pay off because with extra damage/abilities from being higher level you'll be able to complete the rest of the quests faster. You could fam mobs you can skin, but as anyone who's farmed profs for DMF knows, skinning is easy to level elsewhere (and you only need enough to supply one trade), but herbing is a nasty grind with a lot of running around (where you need enough to supply both alchemy and inscription).

There are a couple of good spots to farm mobs early on, the first being the guy who needs rescuing from a group of the plant things, and the second being the cave full of virmen (although that one might be easier for ranged classes, as they don't have to move to hit any of the group). Both of those groups will be replaced by respawns faster than you can kill them. The Virmen also drop linen cloth, allowing you to make a start on first aid as soon as you leave the island (there nowhere to train secondary profs on the island).

I got a couple of levels on the first group, then levelled to 10 on the virmen. I got a couple of 6 slot bags out of the sprites, and enough silver out of the vimen to buy a pair of 8 slot bags (which I needed by that point, as I had a lot of copper and stone).
