[Question/Debate] The current situation in Syria.

Well I certainly don't want a WW3, that would just be terrible for all parties involved. And I also don't want the US or anyone else to coordinate any type of missile attacks on Syria because many innocent lives would be lost and there's no need for anyone else to die in my mind. Hopefully Asad surrenders and this ends peacefully...
Sorry you burst your bubble but I think there is more chance of Elvis rising from the dead, than there is Assad stepping down.

There is not even proof that Assad used chemical weapons yet.. its also the reason why China and Russia are against military action. When there is proof the UN will take action and both countries will accept that. No need for speculation what those 2 countries will do.

I am sure there is enough evidence that Assad used chemical weapons, it's only a question of time before the public will see it, also Russia tried to send gas maskes to Syria before the attack with chemical weapons, but the ship got "pickd up" before they got delivered. USA also says they have snapped up a phone conversation right after the chemical attack with one of the military leaders in Syria. So I think there is more than enough proof, and again, it's only a qusetion of time before the public will see it and realize it.

When it comes to the war, I somehow hope USA and Great Britain will go in to show it's not okay to use chemical weapons and specially not against innocent people which cant defend em selfs against it. I my self live in Denmark and there has been talked about going in if USA asks us to, I do not hope Denmark helps with the military, but sends loads of first aid and money over to all the people in need. I hope it made a lil sense, just woke up and abit tired.

Best regards Shamatix

Can you link my the source of where it says Russia was sending in Gas Masks? and who where these intended to reach? the Victims of the attack or Assad's forces?

Sorry wasnt Russia, it was North korea, and sure I can send you a link, but the article is in a danish newspaper so you will have a hard time reading it I think.

Translation:

"A northkorean attempt to export gasmasks to Syrian has been stopped at the turkish border writes a Japanese newspaper."

"The ship sailed through Dardanelles in Turkey the 3rd of april but got stopped of the turkish autohrities which had gotten a tip from USA."

I am sorry that I thought it was Russia and not North Korea.

Yes but do you know if the Gas Masks where to in some way help the Civilians, or are North Korea just being North Korea and wanting to help Assad's forces?

" to in some way help the Civilians"

They sended em loads earlyer that the date of the gas attack, so I think they somehow knew something were going to happen sooner or later and i am sure it were in help of Assad's forces. So again, North Korea just being North Korea.

No troops will be sent in within a long future. MAYBE a missile attack, but an majority of the American citizens doesn't want US to get involved - they're tired of Iraq, Afghanistan and the financial state.

Also, if US and other countries went past UN, the risk of future shatterness between the Western countries is very high.

Another problem is that there is no gathered opposition in Syria; as it consists of everything from al-Qaeda to secular ordinary citizens.

I am totally opposit, I really think US will do what ever it takes to set a view that it's not okay at all to use chemical weapons, and I think they will go with Great britain to war, I really dont think they care to much of what the people says.

I respect your thinking but I also think you're truly wrong.

This is not Lord of the Rings, there's no "good" side, it's not orches against humans, dwarfs and elves.

It's extremely naive to think everything will be good just because Assad is gone.

Don't get me wrong, I hate the Syrian regime just as much as the next guy, but the question is really if a islamist-regime will be much better.

Just as you I also totally understand and respect your point of view, however I wont say im trying to say it's like the lord of the rings^^ But I think it will be a HUGE start to get Assad away from the "throne" and I really think the Syrian Regime is fuckd up too. But I also think someone will have to show the musscles sooner or later and show how it's done! We cant have a world with people throwing around with those terrifying weapons as chemical weapons killing innocent people. I know however this can cause huge troubles if China, Russia and/or North Korea goes in aswell when they see USA march into Syria. But something has to be done, and in this case I honostly dont think politicans can fix this.

Very powerful speech by John Kerry just now. 1,429 were killed in this chemical strike, 426 of them being children. I'm not for more war either, nor are most Americans, especially after the catastrophe that was Iraq. But a chemical attack on a rebel-controlled civilian neighborhood can't go unpunished.

UK may not be on board, but France has already backed a U.S. strike. I'd look for a military strike, in concert with France and perhaps other countries, once the UN investigative team leaves the country.

why cant everyone just let them gas themselves to death and be done with it. fuck US intervention, let someone else do it if their morals are so high

We have to se an example, that use of chemical weapons on civilians will not go unpunished. Apart from the chemical attacks, the situation in Syria isn't stable, something needs to be done. The question is just who this 'we' will be.

Had to weigh in a little on this.

I think at this point it would be wise for the U.S. to be patient and let the U.N. do their inspections and see what their findings are. We can't afford to go barging into another country thinking that we are doing them a favor by ousting their dictator like we did in Iraq. When we go into other countries it just causes more hatred and resentment towards the U.S. If the U.S. attacked, all Syria has to do is deny that they used chemical weapons and all of their allies will deem us as invading without cause like they did when we ousted Saddam Hussein. I remember our government being so sure Iraq had biological weapon stockpiles and when they got there we found nothing according to the media. Same crap different time. The U.S. government has hopefully learned from it's past mistakes.

In my opinion it's way to early to get involved.

I totally agree with you, and I don't think the US or any other country is interested in entering Syria before the UN inspectors have come to a conclusion.

What must be remembered though, is that the use of chemical weapons, isn't the only thing going on in Syria. The regime is terrorizing the civilians and a civil war is going on.

“Let me be clear. Our goal will not be to effect régime change, or alter the balance of power in Syria, or bring the civil war there to an end. We will simply do something random there for one or two days and then leave.”
