Pummel at 29! (And other useful Warrior macros)

alright, since nobody ever does 29 arena, i figured that i wouldn't really maintain any kind of competitive advantage by keeping this to myself. 29 warriors: read and rejoice.

in 3.1, blizzard took ALL spell interrupts off the global cooldown....including shield bash! what does this mean? well, it means that warriors at 29 now have a ghetto pummel.

now, i'm sure some of you know that swapping weapons incurs a 1.5 gcd of its own. but since shield bash is off the gcd now, it is possible to use a macro to bypass this 1.5s delay and give yourself a ghetto version of pummel.

this is the macro:

#showtooltip Shield Bash

/equipslot 16 Protector's Sword

/equipslot 17 Marbled Buckler

/cast shield bash

**substitute your own weapon and shield item names for mine in your version of the macro**

when you spam this macro, what ends up happening is: 1. your weapons swap to 1h + shield, 2. the game begins to start the 1.5 weapon swap gcd, 3. you send the command to shield bash to the server, STOPPING the 1.5s weapon swap delay and performing a shield bash since sb is INDEPENDENT OF THE GCD.

because of the convoluted workings of the macro, your "pummel" will NOT be instant. there will be a slight delay - a few fractions of a second at most. but if you get good ping, you should have no trouble pummeling 1.5s casts with this macro, especially if you are like me and can easily predict when someone is going to start to cast.

the ironic thing about this is: shield bash is actually BETTER than pummel. shield bash silences for 6 seconds on a 12s cd (compared to pummel silencing for 4 on a 10s cd), AND IT DAZES THE TARGET FOR 6s! this means that if you're "tab pummeling" someone, you get a bonus undispellable snare on them, which is awesome.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

while i'm at it, here are some other awesome 29 warrior macros! (yeah this post is disorganized and long, but this information is so valuable i don't really care):

1 button shield block:

#showtooltip Shield Block

/equipslot 16 Protector's Sword

/equipslot 17 Marbled Buckler

/cast [stance:2] Shield Block; Defensive Stance

1 hotkey usage of this macro will equip your 1h shield and put you in defensive stance. 2 hotkey usages in a row will do the above and then cast shield block. so if you want to immediately cast shield block, just spam the hotkey. shield block is insanely good at 29. i've lived against 8 man zergs for the entire duration of shield block until a healer caught up to save me. it's incredible.

1 button shield wall:

#showtooltip Shield Wall

/equipslot 16 Protector's Sword

/equipslot 17 Marbled Buckler

/cast [stance:2] Shield Wall; Defensive Stance

again, 1 hotkey usage will put you in 1h/shield and dstance. 2 will do the same and cast shield wall, so like above, just spam the macro to shield wall asap. shield wall is another incredible warrior tool at 29, and you will love this macro.

1 button battle stance/2h:

#showtooltip Battle Stance

/equipslot 16 Corpsemaker

/cast Battle Stance

i use this macro to return to battle stance with my 2hander after i've been playing defensively. it's handy to have, and to streamline your hotkeys.

1 button heroic strike/execute/cleave:

#showtooltip Heroic Strike

/cast Execute

/cast [modifier:ctrl] Cleave; Heroic Strike

this macro will allow you to use the same hotkey to cast heroic strike, cleave, and execute. it's nice for saving button space. the hotkey will display whether or not you have heroic strike toggled, and obviously just spam it if you want to execute. :) using ctrl + this hotkey will allow you to toggle cleave as well. (you can switch your modifier from ctrl to something more convenient to you if you'd like).

1 button 1h/shield without going dstance

/equipslot 16 Protector's Sword

/equipslot 17 Marbled Buckler

this one is simple: it just equips your 1h/shield but doesn't put you in dstance like the previous macros. useful if you want some damage mitigation, but you need to stay in battle stance for hamstringing, fear, etc.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i suggest arranging your hotkeys so your hotkey in dstance for revenge is the same as your hotkey for overpower in battle, your dstance hotkey is the same as your battle stance hotkey, other hotkeys between stances match up, etc etc. this will make it a lot easier to manage stance/weapon swap dancing as a warrior, since you will be doing it a LOT.

i will make another post about 29 warrior spec, gear, and gameplay some other time. for now, just let me say that being a good 29 warrior is all about managing your stances and damage reduction, and especially positioning. you need to be very good at switching between 1h/shield, d and battle stance, positioning yourself, and conserving rage. i'll write more about this later.

enjoy the macros. 29 warriors forlife!

updated a few more macros

Shield Bash and Pummel have been off GCD since Lich King came out.

yeah, i think you're right. i didn't play wow for quite a while after 3.0/wotlk came out, so i was only aware of kick and pummel going off the GCD. i've just been using this macro since i started playing again. they took every other interrupt that was still on the gcd off it in 3.1 (like silencing shot, thank god!).

i have a few other warrior macros that i use that i might post later on. i just try to be wary of "over-macroing" stuff, because it sometimes gets confusing to other players.

edit: i posted them in the OP. gotta get back to work.

Thanks and good job.

np man. i was thinking about writing guides for a good majority of 29 classes, but i don't really think that many people would benefit from them haha. it doesn't seem like anyone here does arena and that's what they would be for.

LOL - YOUR SIG

#showtooltip Disarm

/cast [stance:2] Disarm; Defensive Stance

i don't personally like to use a macro for disarm. i feel that it gives me more control to simply go dstance and then disarm, since i want to make sure that i get behind my target before i actually disarm. it's still a handy macro, though.

It shouldn't matter if the spell is on gcd or not, you can still equip an item and cast a spell at the same time. This is why rogues macro their abilities to equip their spamming weapon to cast with their spam abilities.

i'm not sure i know what you mean....the ability to equip a weapon and cast a spell at the same time was nerfed shortly before wotlk came out. you haven't been able to do that for quite a while. it was far too abuseable in pve.

for whatever reason, using a macro like this with shield bash will actually cancel the weapon-switch gcd, not just bypass it. you can use another ability right after you shield bash without having to wait for the rest of the 1.5s weapon swap gcd. it just disappears...lol.

If you're say a rogue and you opened with ambush, you can then macro hemo to also equip a weapon. For instance:

#showtooltip Garrote

/stopattack

/equipslot 17 Mallet of Zul'Farrak

/equipslot 16 Sword of Omen

/cast [stealth] Garrote; [nostealth] Rupture

/stopattack

Equipping the weapon incurs the 1.5 second gcd i think and stops your attack, but the garrote will still go through. (For garroting over rupture) I haven't tried this on any other class and it may just be because rogues have a 1 second gcd and the weapon gcd is 1.5 and theres some sort of weird interaction there.

well the 1.5s weapon swap gcd is only incurred when you're in combat. when you're out of combat, it's just instant. so yeah, that macro would work, since you're ooc and opening on somebody.

at least that's what i think is going on in that macro. correct me if i'm wrong.

No, thats a macro for garroting a sapped target (which puts you in combat) without having to turn away. Replace garrote with cheap shot and rupture with expose armor and you would be able to spam that button to cheap shot and expose armor without breaking sap or turning away. You would be in combat for this

dunno then. all i know is that there is definitely a 1.5s weapon swap gcd when you're in combat, and it previously prevented players from utilizing shield bash in this way. my macro is basically the same thing posted on arenajunkies, and on the warrior forums there everyone describes shield bash working this same way.

after reading a little more about it, i believe that rogues do not have this same weapon swap gcd. i'm not sure why. probably for the same reason that they have a 1s gcd while everyone else has 1.5...you know, because they're 1337 ninjas. my rogue isn't on my current account so i can't test it.

i don t know what is macro but i can t use it anyway if you need prospector blade or something... if not, than it's preatty cool and i wana try it :p
