prot pally viable in 2s?

what do yall think. works decently @ 80 doesnt it? was thinking of doing something like Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft for a spec.



not sure about gear.could go with either pve or pvp gear, or a mix of both. a lot of damage is holy, so arp is next to useless...so im guessing gem stamina or strength, possibly a bit of resil too.



prots got great survivability...and can generate some decent burst (or so i think). HoJ also down to 30sec cd with full talents meaning extra cc.

obviously not as much burst as a ret, but frankly im getting a bit tired of ret and have always thought prot would be interesting. tried healing and didnt like it, plus h pally/rogue wasnt doing too stellar.



s4 > pve gear? especially in the shield department, either s4 wall or sunwell shield? what would be the best wep to use as well?

On my ret pally i tried out Protret today just using my sunwell gear mixed with abit of pvp gear. stats ended up being 2800 ap with sanc and 44% crit with engy trinkets. The damage was amazing hammer of right was critting from 3k-4k and avengers shields around 6-8k depending on ressy the only real difference is that protrets at 80 have divine plea so u have abit of mana issues

Well on my old level 70 paladin twink back on the US servers I had a pretty much full SWP prot offspec (except for my hyjal shield) and I tried arena but went OOM too quickly. - mind you I was my usual PVE spec in my PVE gear.



I have however seen some pretty decent level 70 prot paladins now on the EU servers, even some really undergeared prot paladins putting out some decent dmg while sustaining their dmg/mana too. So while I think it definitely could work, it won't be as good as level 80 and probably won't be able to make it to rank 1-5 in any serious level 70 battlegroup.



But in the end of the day, twinking is about having fun If you enjoy prot paladins and you found a way to make yours work, then play it how you wish!



In terms of weapons, it's a toss up between a slow weapon for more dmg, and a fast weapon for quicker mana regen. Perhaps open with a slow weapon and then switch to a fast weapon when ever you go below 40% mana, so that you can get some quick Seal/Judge or wisdom hits.

well the thing is HoR is based off weapon dps, so speed doesnt matter as much for that. fast/slow depends on SoR damage and seals proccing, so ill have to consider that. would you think a pve weapon or a s4 weapon would be surperior?

right now im still floating it around in my head as i dont have the gear to pull the spec off (hell i dont even have a MH atm....all the stupid badge weapons are daggers or fists, pallys get shafted). seems like it could be fun in prot gear having some decent burst and being nigh unkillable, or ret gear with prot spec and still having good defensive capability with even higher burst. sooo idk, im gonna keep thinkin about it but i wont try it out till i have some gear.

especially bored of my current spec/arenas atm b/c my rogue partner went MIA (prolly cuz of school ending and just cant get on) so ive had to pug random level 70s who are leveling just to get 10 games a week. my rating has suffered immensely, but i still need 10 games a week to get more s4 =/

I Tried it with full Ret Brutal with Murumasa and Shield breakers bulwark 9k Avengers shield on low resi targets but id oom fast thoe vs melee with seal of wisdom and sanc is good thoe :[

swp shield > azznioth? guess it depends on if you want to do more damage or be more defensive seeing how that 2k armor proc is a lot more mitigation.



anyways....still thinking about which route to go, retprot or pve prot. seeing as my partner is a rogue, ret/rogue works by just bursting our enemies down basically....if i went prot it would prolly be best to continue this and try to eek out as much burst as possible, but on the otherhand i could sit back as a juggernaut and even redirect damage to myself while doing modest burst.



in either case i still need the gear, but thx for all the replys so far
