Prot pallies (hybrid prot/ret) viable in PVP?

I was thinking about this while trying to build my "spellhance" shammy.

Would a ZF mallet (with like Mongoose)/Green Tower with a mix of ret/prot talents pally be viable in 39 PVP?

Kill things slightly slower than ret but with the survivability of a prot?

I've never seen anyone do this, and I wonder if it would work.

Relying on the most intelligent twink community in existence for advice.

I played in the 39 bracket a lil but balance druids and locks dominate my BGs 39s. The class I played was a 39 prot paladin :p

something very similar to
Code:
this
(I played it before 3.1)

Reckoning is the best part about the prot tree, and at 5/5 reckoning you gain access to 1h weap spec and sacred duty. Compare that to benediction and deflection and I think the choice is obvious. No matter what, though, casters will tear you a new hole. There are tools to help with this, such as frost oil, but ultimately they have the advantage. You are an awesome flagrunner of course and you will ruin rogues' shit all the time.

I wouldn't recommend mongoose. It won't benefit you much. Crusader or +20 strength. Crusader works pretty well with Reckoning. On the topic of Reckoning, weapon speed isn't that important (contrary to popular belief). Reckoning procs on received hits, not weapon swings, so it'll pop in between swings which will mean a weapon with 2.2 speed like [item]Vanquisher's Sword[/item] can potentially use up all 4 charges. Now that's only if granted you're on your target for a constant 8 seconds. Yeeaa about that... damage per swing is what's most important, especially when one swing actually means two. You also get more crusader procs.PvP Sword or the BoA thrash blade will work (thrash sounds potentially amazing). I can't remember what better ones are out there.

I didn't stay long (never planned to). Gradius is now a 49 twink. Went ret, too, after being prot in that bracket for a while.

Ive heard some good things about Prot/Holy combo though. Cant give you any info beyond that, but supposedly it can work.

I would say that you better spec prot, with a healing gear. This gives you a lot of survability and gives you very good heals! Just try it :p

You can't heal if you're dead.
