When you do that you end up thinking to much, which leads to stress, which leads to anger, which leads to hatred, which leads to the dark side. Now, I am like Darth Revan; I've gone from the light side, to the dark side, and then back and I have my own views on everything and I leave it at that. I don't get all worked up and talk about them, because it will lead to a whole lot of bullshit. It's not something you can talk to anyone about as it only leads to more and more questions and problems.

is darth revan luke, or do you mean luke. cuz he was all light, then went dark, then was like "lolo i like light after all" and came back

Depend on how you see it. I mean, I'm not searching for answer where there are none.

Perhaps my question wasn't phrased properly. It's not the actual answers that matter, it's the journey of it and what we learn about ourselves along the way. Religion culminates many disciplines of thought. And I honestly can't think of something more valuable and worthwhile than gaining that knowledge and wisdom. Hence my previous statement, that if religion/philosophy is worthless, then I couldn't think of something else in life that wasn't worthless as well.

Life, Existence, Question, Meaning, God -> All concepts. Even concept is a concept. And now I can't go any farther without being an hypocrite because I'm using concepts! Fuck, farther is a concept!

You ask what the meaning of life is, I ask you to define life.

You ask me if there's any God, I ask you what god is.

You ask me if we really exist, I ask you what's existence.

In the end, these are all concepts. End is a concept. Concept is a concept.

And probably 00,1% will get what I mean.

I enjoyed the snow. I don't have a bleak out look on life, I just don't care about all the questions. And by Darth Revan, I mean Darth Revan.

This dude was Light side, said 'Fuck this shit.' Went pure Dark side, became a Sith lord, found the most powerful weapon in the world, killed everything in his path, and then he said 'I'm bored, time to reroll Light side.' And killed all the Sith and then made sweet, sweet love to all the hot Jedi chicks. Kind of like what I do everyday.

Philosophy all boils down to metaphysics. The grand conclusion of my Philo class last semester was that we really don't know anything. This thread is now about favorite philsophers, I'm going with Kant.

no it's not just metaphysics, it's learning about yourself

This might be true if you spent more time caring and less time sleeping. Their are major advantages to giving a shit, which some people have already expressed they do not.

Some of the smartest or most enlightened people I know have success in every other part of their life as well. Especially the bedroom.

Try caring more, you might be surprised how life can be when you think of others more and start trying. It becomes easier to enjoy your life instead of searching for escapes through different media sources.

Academic philosophy isn't sitting in a circle, singing Kumbaya, sharing feelings and telling "what you want out of life".

Metaphysics is the study of what is even possible to know, which is essentially nothing.

Just curious how it is impossible to know nothing? If you restrict what we know to what we experience you can learn a hell of a lot more then our society lets on. Even the exploration of that is worth more then the assumption you can know nothing. For instance if you are being tested with out knowing it, it is well worth the time spent exploring ideas and philosophy. All you can gain is experience, which every rpg player knows is a good thing.

If you don't like metaphysics, you'll love David Hume. And he would disagree with you that it is impossible to know anything.

Yeah, in a roundabout way you were basically explaining the gist of deconstruction. Kinda puts a wrench in just about everything.

Yeah we went over Hume in that class, some good stuff, I especially like his theory of causation.

I personally don't believe we don't know anything, but if any of you know the Evil Demon theory? It says there will always be that shred of doubt in everything you do in life, making it impossible to know anything for certain.

i'm not really into those philosophers (Hume, Kant, etc)

i like Nietzsche because he deals with life itself

"He who has a why to live can bear with almost any how"

---

"there will always be that shred of doubt in everything you do in life, making it impossible to know anything for certain."

of course there's ideas like from the movies The Matrix and Inception which challenges all we know, but if our senses and intellect lie to us, then what is there to explore?

no, it's not

but i have felt insanity, staring out of a window for 10 minutes, looking at myself in a mirror seeing the outer shell of myself as a foreign object, and then eating the corner of a pillow

the only thing driving these strange actions are my philosophy and some weird space music

it's enlightening, really

I think I may have come across wrong in this topic. I do care about life (mine and my loved ones) and I do enjoy life. I don't care about worrying about the meaning of life or figuring out all the little mysteries in life and get all religious/spiritual and stuff. I just don't care about that stuff, especially not religion which is a very old and, frankly, barbaric activity that I feel like Humans should have grown out of at this point in history. Plus, I have seen religion corrupt two of my friends and it breaks my heart just thinking about it. They never would have turned out the way they did had religion never entered their lives.

Not exactly but sort of.

I'm an Agnostic Ignostic, btw. And my favorite philosopher is Socrates.

Interesting. Naturally I would think postmodernism and deconstruction would lead me towards an ignostic approach as well. But after reading a couple books by a professor named Merold Westphal, I changed my outlook quitea bit.

Personally, I'm more into Eastern philosophy. Siddhartha Gautama, Guru Nanak, Confucious, and Lao Tzu, just to name a few.

Eastern Philosophers provide a good sense of balance to us Westerners which help illuminate areas in our own worldview that we may have previously accepted without any question due to our own cultural conditioning.
