Oh herro mongorians

Hello ladies and gents,

Just curious to see if anyone I know is still kicking around. My account has been inactive for a while and I can't post in the 39 thread on the bg forum, so I thought I'd post here. I'm toying around with the idea of reactivating my account and playing some 39s again.

Im making 39 mage atm

Hey Okton, you're the first 39 around here I recognize. I just started poking around here too a week or so ago.

Personally, I'm not interested in resubscribing; too big of a time commitment. Been looking at private servers as a diversion, and am keeping tabs on some of the twink-specific ones in progress in case they get interesting to me.

Jadyn! Good to see a familiar face. I gotta admit I was never really a regular on this site, so I wasn't really expecting too many responses.

I've been going through the 39 thread a few times here and there the past few weeks to see what was shakin. I've taken a break from WoW for about 4 months now, and I'm starting to get the itch to play again. I spent all of wrath doing arena at 80, but I just don't have enough time anymore to keep up on that gear treadmill. With that said, I'm one of those people that can't settle with second rate gear, so I'm looking back into twinking.

From what I understand, MWF are the que days for 39, so it doesn't seem to be too demanding. I definately won't be doing 10v10s or even group queues, but I'd like the option to que every now and then for fun. Apparently skirmishes are no longer in the game though, which is a huge bummer.

I'm pretty disappointed that holy dps doesn't seem to be possible either. The talents are definately there, but the fact that I wouldn't be able to pick up both the disc smite talents and the cast time reduction in the holy tree doesn't look promising. From what I can see, there are a ton of disc priests running around so I may look into rerolling. It's readily apparent that no one knows how to gear for cata twinking though, so I'll definately gear out atleast one priest to show people what the right gear can do. I've been working on a few chardevs for several different classes and they look pretty awesome.

As far as the 39 community is concerned, I pretty much fell off the map when I started doing 80. Did anything big happen during WOTLK? I know there was a migration over to Nightfall, but I never really kept up with the happenings after that. Any good new guilds pop up?

Edit: Wait there are private twink specific servers?

Sorry, you know about as much as me. I dropped completely off the map about... almost 2 years ago now. That probably was a bit after you started doing 80s. My guess is that with <Cyclone> seemingly mostly interested in going back to Cyclone bg, and me suddenly quitting, Bloodlust at least was ripe to colapse when 3.2 rolled around and excluded twinks. I know next to nothing about the community now, except that yeah, they merged some bgs, and most twinks that still wanted to play migrated to Nightfall since they were the only ones with enough ppl to do 10v10s.

Afaik, there's really only a 19 twink private server or two. I'm currently reinstalling and updating WoW to 3.3.5 to fool around on a normal private server (just has faster xp and drops), and maybe rebuild my priest just for giggles. If you check out the Private Servers forum on this site, there's some recent discussion on a 49 twink server or two. I honestly have no idea how those will turn out, don't know enough, but I'm not in a hurry. I just am not interested in spending hours leveling up and farming and such on live realms. Plus, I think most of the twinks I knew are gone now, and I don't feel like buying Cata. =/

Ah, sorry I didn't know you stopped around the same time I had. It kinda bums me out from time to time when I think about the fact that I'll probably never see most if not all the people I used to play with again, but that's just the way it goes I suppose.

Ugh, yeah. I try not to think about that. I don't know which feels worse, thinking I won't be able to hang out with any of them again, or realize that I've already forgotten everyone's names. =( I had to do some serious searching to even remember some names. Got a new computer a year ago, and lost most of my saved screenshots, though I found a few again.

Hehe, I still have a screen of our third 10v10 with <Cyclone> the first day you guys showed up. Remember that one, where we basically turtled for an hour and finally won 3-2? I remember the flames when someone posted it on the forums a few months later, but good times. X)

That hurts Jadyn.

Hey! Sorry, I didn't see you before. Where did you come from? >.<

I've still got 3 of my old 39 twinks ready to go but no one to fight against :p Twinks will probably make a comeback when people get bored of their mains (as is always the way).

Right now I'm leveling a warrior up through BG experience - kinda fun (when Alliance win...) lol

Hahaha I know what you mean, I think I'm still able to remember most people right now, but there are a few that are on the verge of fading from my memory.

I'm almost embarrassed that I used to take the game so seriously to be honest. I got into more than a few forum wars on every battlegroup I played 39s in. But at the end of the day, I think all that stuff makes the community stronger. Nothing like competition to stir up some interest.

I'll see if I can dig up some of my old screenshots for fun. It's possible that I don't have them anymore, because I spilled cream soda on my keyboard a few years back and lost everything. This happened before I had an external harddrive, so I'll see what I can find. I remember that third game very well. I know I used to have a few screenshots of our whole team standing in the midfield, trying to force your team to come out while everyone raged in gchat lol.

EDIT: I DO HAVE ALL MY OLD SS's. YES. I'll work on posting a few a little bit later.

While I'm looking at these, oh my god do I miss starshards. That was the best spell I've ever had in my arsenal. It used to have to be channeled way back in vanilla, but they changed it to a DoT during BC. Used to cost no mana, and ticked for about the same as shadow word pain in my holy DPS gear. That was back when only nelfs and UD had a second DoT at 39. UD had devouring plague, but DP cost like 500 mana and was on a 5 min CD. I think starshards was a 30 second CD.

I stopped playing 39s for a while, but then came back. I played with Brumble on Ruin for a few years, then played the priest Ievel. Now I just FC on my Pallys (Horde or Alliance). Horde have been dominating the bracket, so I made an FC for alliance to kind of even things out since they didn't have any regular FCs. We have been getting games to pop 3 days per week. Anywhere between 3-6 games on those nights. No transferring required now (which is nice).

Ahhhh, good times. I remember my guildies at the time were sooo pissed off at what appeared to be a perfectly class-balanced raid designed to dominate WSG. 4 hunters 3 druids 2 priests? They were ready to quit after the second game, and were totally uninterested in 10v10ing with you guys ever again. Man, that was tough, to get what I wanted and then to find out it wasn't quite what I expected it to be. >.<

Wouldn't it have been awesome if things hadn't gone to crap for the 3-4 months after that? Just imagine what could've happened if it hadn't taken 6 months for me to rebuild with a competitive core of players. =/ Looking back, yeah, we probably took those things too seriously, but I still think the whole community dynamic back then was fascinating.

I'm having some decent fun playing on this private server. Lol, got a Witching Stave to drop. Hm, I wonder what the rare drop rates are like here...

I think that's just the way it goes when there are only 2 teams and one of them starts to become dominant over the other. Back in the day in the cyclone battlegroup OTAKTAY vs ROCK LOBSTA had 4-5 games before activity started falling off. In vindication, Cyclone vs. Team Malygos had about 3-4 games before the same thing happened. In Bloodlust, Cyclone vs. Purple Haze also had 4-5 games before activity fell off.

Kinda funny if you think about it. If you win too much people get bored and stop playing. If you lose too much, people get frustrated and stop playing, and believe it or not, I have also seen people turn down games that could go either way because those games can be more taxing than losing if you spend a ton of time and energy playing a hour long + game and lose.

Soo true. It's too bad really. Probably what you need is a bunch of teams, so if one team loses to another, at least they can beat up on the other, and at least that team can beat up on someone else, etc. And yeah, those close games can be really exhausting, especially if people start putting their egos on the line for it. I think really if it were possible for everyone to just be easygoing about this stuff, things would've been a lot more fun, but oh well.

If anyone remembers em.... I have been chattin with qpacc, prowls, and the hero gang. They arent really sure about comin back so im trying to sweet talk em. wish me luck, if they come back, alliance dominance comes with it.

At the very least, I'll keep you in mind as a contact. I couldn't really do anything right now if I wanted to in terms of community, since I still keep in contact with a total of two of the players who used to be in my guild. =/
