EU+US Noob vet questions

So I think I want to play some vets. I read all 7 pages of the how to start a vet twink properly, good stuff. My questions are account/sub related. So I add a wow account to my Bnet, It looks like the thing to do is buy the $40 shadowlands (BFA is 50), and get one month of game time to get a few toons to SL lv 20, and then once that runs out I have some vets to play? I do have to buy one right - I can't just get a month of gametime?

I think I would get a boost with the $50 BfA, whereas the Shadowlands at 40 does not. Is there any reason to get one over the other? Having a high lv on the account for some purpose or needing Shadowlands for some purpose?

buy the SL simply because its cheaper and provides more access. This is a pretty "duh" question.

You don’t necessarily have to purchase BFA or SL. U can simply create a new Starter account and drop 1 month onto it. Level to 20 and let sub run out.
U would have to work a little harder if u want some high lvl help, but could save u a few bob.
R u planning on having another account with a sub? If so, this will be a good way to go.
