Nimble Leather Gloves?

So I'm finishing up my 19 rogue, working on gear and have been following Curley's guide since he's a respectable rogue tink. His guide states Gloves of the Fang as a substitute for Foreman's Gloves. I found and have been using Nimble Leather Gloves which are identical to Foreman's aside from 1 less agility and 1 less expertise. Is this a viable replacement until I can find Foreman's? My server is devoid of most of the really good 19 gear, so it might be a while before I can find some. Will I be missing out on something substantial if I do it this way?

idk why sub rogues insist on using sinister strike and gearing expertise.

i'm not going to get into it i'll just enjoy being the only rogue in the bracket doing it right lol.

Can you explain why? I play rogue at 85 and I'm new to 19, but it's drastically different at 19 and I'd like to know why you think that in opposition to most other rogues I've seen in the bracket so far.

foreman's gloves can easily be farmed, just camp the place a few hours :)

This is because gearing for expertise means you are anticipating that your strikes will be on the front of your target (where they can dodge/parry) as opposed to the back of your target, where they should actually be directed. For example, if you are a dagger rogue, you would be better off with the fang gloves or Wild Rider's Gloves for the stamina because the expertise should be an unneeded stat. e.g. Expertise is useless for backstab as it can never miss, be dodged or parried with sufficient gear.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks! I'll be using the heirloom maces instead of Shadowfangs unless I can find a decent deal on them. I think I need to figure out how best to do weapon swapping to and from daggers at 19 then, as I'm used to playing solely daggers at 85 and hovering behind my target anyway.

Think it's best to stick with the maces and gear with expertise as Curley's guide says, or try to work out the weapon swapping and use both when applicable?

Uhm wasn't it the BoA sword & mace ? or 2x maces , Sword in MH gives a tad more crit no?

Gear with expertise and use maces in general. When backstab is applicable (against dodging rogues, or for waylay proc) then use a backstab macro to switch to dagger and cast backstab.

This is what I use for sinister strike and backstab, respectively:

/equip Shadowfang
/cast sinister strike

/equip sentinel's blade
/cast backstab

Thanks Sneaky :) Despite our differences and my tendency for raging at you, you've given me some good info and help here.

^Yes, Sword MH / Mace OH.

And I tested a chardev with the sword, and it gives like .33% more crit vs .95% haste with the mace. I don't know enough about haste at lower levels, but I would think that the almost 1% haste is a bit more desirable to me than a tiny bit of crit?

The benefit of having expertise (even while playing with daggers) is from landing more gouges. Missing a gouge can be game changing. And yes, I'm aware you can't dodge while casting... but against other rogues, warriors, hunters etc the extra gouges kicks the ass of 1 agi and a few stamina.

As for weapon switching macros, make different gear sets and use gear set macros instead. And put /startattack in there...

Something like...

#show backstab
/equipset WAYLAY
/startattack
/cast backstab

and

#show sinister strike
/equipset SHADOWFANGLOL
/startattack
/cast sinister strike

This. These are the correct macros. I just made those ones on the spot and didn't remember what I had exactly.

I use this. If i drop out of combat even for a second it'll stealth me and ambush.

#showtooltip [stance:1] ambush; sinister strike
/equipslot 16 Shadowfang
/cast !stealth
/startattack [combat]
/cast [stance:1] ambush; sinister strike
/run UIErrorsFrame:Clear()
