Nifflevar Bearded Axe?

I was wondering what the opinion was around here on the Nifflevar Bearded Axe

I've been playing with it on a 71 sub rogue and it seems to have potential, but combat doesn't seem to be very viable at this level unfortunately.

This could definitely also work great for an enhance shaman, though I haven't gotten a chance to try it.

Daggers as Sub, unless your weap swapping nuff said..

no really, that axe might be "good" but Sub will be below decent without daggers...

this thing has topend that nearly triples the brutal daggers, and ambush only does 257 (as opposed to 372) without daggers

Ambush is not what I'm looking at, its the backstabs.. and drop Brutal daggers get KJ dagger... sure there might be 60 dps difference but backstab hits hard as hell.

sides Sub ain't about top end dmg its about controlling your enemy. backstab gives slow effect etc and costs 5 more energy..

also combat can be viable to play but it requires more "skill" then the other specs. but it certainly is fun to play, so if your gonna go with axe I would recommend combat really.

I'm really just playing for the novelty of the axe, so I guess I could go combat. However, my only hard hitting shit as combat is KS, which never hits the right targets in BGs. As sub my ambushes hit for a pretty hefty amount considering the axe is naxx25 ilvl. Either way it's fun.

ulduar 25 ilvl actually, and KS ain't hitting that hard, SS SnD Evi should be most of your dmg really :)

I'm honestly amazed this axe doesn't come up more around here, it's obviously best in slot for quite a few situations, albeit a bit of a pain to get.

just ambush + hemo, your hemo with this axe will have more damage/energy than backstab w/ Apocalypse

i was eyeballing this somewhat myself, although not so eager to leave the arena bracket for it.

curious if you could whack a dummy a little and tell me the average hemo and ambush with the axe & the shanker i presume.

i'd be curious to compare my napkin math and figure out what kind of weapon-swapping i'd do, how an axeless backstab compared to an axe-hemo and all. i'm guessing glancealot's right.

i'd be glad to do this as soon as I get my gear sorted out, its a mess of ZA/Kara epics that I got in early wrath and the brutal that i'm replacing them with. I'm actually running hacker in my offhand, I didn't see much benefit to going with shanker, might as well have matched axes. I can tell you that i've seen hemo crit in the mid 2K range with my current gear.

Tyrania @ Stormreaver - Game - World of Warcraft

like the said the gear is a mess so I don't need any criticism yet, just showing you what i'm working with

with the gear shown (full brutal no offsets yet) on a 70 dummy my hemos were 992 avg hit and 2043 avg crit, max crit of 2949. ambush was 5292 avg crit, 6220 max crit

I only did this for a couple of minutes so that was a data set of 34 hemos and 9 ambushes, i'll do more extensive/precise testing once I get this gear fixed.

i'm not looking for anything too serious myself thank you though. i'm not a real stat-buster like some other people; this is as much to check if i've worked out the right formula at all: looking at weapon dmg, normalized speed, etcetc. that would be satisfied with any gear, so long as its otherwise consistent besides the weapons between tests, especially because i'm fine with a small sample size and high margin of error. i'm pretty sure the ratios would remain pretty constant as gear improved; i don't think rogues have anything like the haste-plateaus spriests do....right?

no, melee dont have haste plateaus like casters
