Is there any reason to play a gf'd 29? My warrior has all mail and leather gear and has a couple pieces that require level 30(?). Hes got dead man's hand and a few weapons you can't get anymore (shoni's disarming tool, etc). Will dead man's hand still proc in bg's? Will the disarming tool?
Any reason to play a gf'd mage or warlock both with dead man's hand and all that other stuff. So much has changed I feel like I should just start all new toons.
Grats on that GF'ed gear! It sounds like both of us were active during the same twink "era."
Sadly, the only use your gear has in iPvP (instanced PvP, such as BGs) is their iLvl. No gear, sets, enchants, trinkets, etc will proc anymore. Nor will you be able to use any effects from gear. In fact, not even the old PvP trinkets will be of any use. You'll simply receive a PvP skill in the general tab of your skill book upon entering a PvP area which relieves you of any CC on a cool down.
With that said, it takes a substantial about of iLvl to receive even the most minuscule amount of stat increase in iPvP. So much so, and so little increase, that most people don't even bother. All you need now is an item in every slot appropriate to your armor type, regardless of their iLvl and quality/rarity, to receive the appropriate stats for your class/spec upon entering the BG.
Now if you're like me, you might play with your twinks in PvE from time to time, in which case you will obviously still benefit from the effects and enchantments of your gear.
Due to the unimportance of gear in iPvP now, many are finding that it's worthwhile to just reroll modern twinks on heavily twink-populated servers; such as Bleeding Hollow. If you were ever part of the Aerie Peak era, that server is unfortunately a ghost town of its former self now.
