Would you be interested in rethinking your control scheme? I'm currently experimenting with a science project where I use an Xbox Elite controller to play WoW.
I thought about that (and the video you linked helped illuminate the possibilities -- thank you). It appeals even more so, because I hate,
hate, mice. The whole concept of a mouse is a stopgap technology until we can come up with something better.
But with that said, the depth of what World of Warcraft's interface enables us to do remains unparalleled. No other game I've ever played makes it possible to use mouseover targeting, target-of-target, or macros with combined modifiers. This game has been around for ****ing 16 years, and other MMOs
still haven't caught on. ...Anyway, my point is that for as much as I hate using a mouse, the mouse remains the single best targeting hardware available. There's no way I could tolerate using a control stick on a console controller for targeting (which is also why I don't play FPS games on consoles). Everything else, from macros to modifiers, could all work great (because it's still WoW, after all). But precision aiming? I'm bad enough with aiming as it is -- I don't want a console controller to provide an additional layer of angst.
That was a long way of saying that I think a console controller is a great idea, but it just happens to run face-first into a major weakness of mine, so I wouldn't be able to do it. I appreciate you suggesting it, though!
