Midnight First Impressions

I think the summary of the changes so far is OUCH! With soloing taking a big hit.

Overall what happened was everything was given a lot of stamina, both for players and for mobs. The main effect this has is that the contribution to your damage from enchantment / procs / on use effects is greatly reduced, to the point were healing effects from things such as lifesteal/mending, trinkets, potions are reduced so much that things you might have once been able to solo are now completely out of reach. Even for things that are still soloable, the time it takes to do them will take at least twice as long (though in most cases way longer than that).

As far as Timewalking stuff goes, if you're in a group things will still go relatively smoothly; but the increased health pools will make clearing them longer. My level 11 fury warrior was still doing twice the damage of most of the level 80s, though some of the better geared ones were matching my output. Stacking main stat is once again not advised for TWing. Soloing TWing dungeons is still possible for some classes (least for the level 11s),

Sad times as movement speed took a massive hit, to the point that you basically have to use a SL gem in every possible socket slot in every piece of equipment and still be short of capping run speed. Will need to do some testing to see how much of a trade off it is to use SL gems vs pure DPS gems with changes to damage output and enemy health pools. Currently best to have a https://www.wowhead.com/ptr/spell=256691/straddling-viridium somewhere for +6 speed, as the SL gems only provide +2 speed each. Expect your characters to only have +10-20% speed unless you really stack it, and even then you're probably only going to end up in the 30-40% range.

Transmogs also took a bit of a hit. If you have a lot of alts, the new system is going to be a pain to get your characters back to the way you want them to look, most of my characters are basically wearing clown outfits ATM. Full transmog is over 1000 gold, which is of course more than we can hold at a time, so you have to do things piece by piece, character by character (So I hope you all have a good amount of gold vendorables stored up!). The upside at least is that it doesn't matter what gear you use you'll keep the appearance, and you can drag outfits on your bars now and swap outfits with a single click. The other downside is you can no longer transmog gear pieces that don't match your class, as previously you could hide or transmog non-main-stat gear (which you might end up doing for TWing) to appearances that could be applied to all types of armor (Like holiday appearances); so your TWing gear might have you looking like a Vanilla hobo, and no way out of that!

EDIT: The cost of transmogs seems to have been corrected/lowered to something reasonable for the level you're at.
EDIT2: And the cost went back up again. No clue what's going on with that.

With the increased health pools, PvP might become a thing again if the one or two shots are gone as a result; but I don't have any particular desire to poke my head into that to find out for myself, I'll leave it to others who still PvP to report on how that shakes out.

As far as I can tell the entire game basically got slower, for everyone, not just Twinks. Will see how this all shakes out over the coming days.

- Dragonflight profession equipment was detached out of the slots and is back to my inventory with a level requirement of 70.
- Former blue lvl 84 and purple 89 is both equal now stat wise. Some former set boni (example) are gone (shown but not active) some are still active (example). Strolling through my bank, I found two usable lvl 37 items: Liberators's Blade (6dps 8Str 11crit 17temp) and The Jailer's Key (8Str 11crit). Both are Legion quest upgrades.
- Some Stormwindportals moved (e.g. Borealus) to a room behind.
- Group wipes in time walking dungeons. E.g. Tide of the Storm: Tidesage Spiritualists were unkillable if you pull more than two and not kick their heal. As 20 tank I do have 7k life now, but receive 9k dmg from Lord Stormsong. Taking off all gear except trinkets, rings, weapon and shield fixed the problem for me. Vol'zith the Whisperer nuked also the high levels in my team and after another wipe we gave up.
- All my health pots are crab now: Wildvine Potion 3hp/3mana, Super Healing Potions 2hp, Major Healing Potions 2hp, Iron Horde Rejuvation Potion 3hp/1mana. Gladiator's Healing Potion not tested should be the best choice since it heals 20% and Charged Crystal Focus that gives me 5764hp (75%) on level 20.

Agree with everything stated. A few things I noticed and commented on earlier in-game are as follows.

Like most of the game right now, something is busted with tmog. We should only be able to buy 20 slots, and I bought 26 before stopping.

There’s some talk vet-side about TWW gems maybe smoothing out the speed loss from SL gems, but since AH is currently busted I couldn’t test.
(I also noticed they removed my beloved DH auto attack talent. How good of them.)

Gem-wise, using nearly full SL gems+ straddling viridium, I’m at 30% speed.

Ran a TW dungeon, was doing 500 each Consume spell, 1k crits. Each hit shaved 2% hp off regular mobs, not bosses, trash mobs. For comparison, my arcane mage was doing 500 spell hits with full charges before patch, and did a lot more than 2% to dungeon mobs.

I think I read somewhere during ptr that the tmog slots will be increased to 50 on live.

Not being able to tmog pieces not matching to our class is a shame. I've also found we can no longer apply Legion artifact appearance to anything outside it's weapon type - also a shame especially coming straight from Remix.

Logged in a couple or so alts, ran some TW. Not a fan of the talent changes made so far, at least from a lvl 20 perspective. Important ones were taken away (Prevoker's Spiritbloom, Restodruid's Cenarion Ward, Prot Warrior's Deep wounds), fun ones were put on a node that sacrifices too much elsewhere. In some cases we gained some but they look pretty meh. So far a -ve on the talent front.

The healthpool & stat changes means everything plays out more like a high level toon - we won't be able to kill stuff quickly, nor top up entire health pools with a single heal.

Strangely, healing spells by offspecs seem to do a ton compared to actual healing specs. For eg, on a druid I'm seeing Bear Regrowth's doing almost 3X compared to a Resto Druid's, and Rejuv being 2X. There were always some differences before in that offspec heals can sometimes be more powerful than dedicated healing spec, but not till this extent.
So offspec healing wise, the bigger player health pools doesn't seem that noticeable - I was occasionally helping heals on a Devastation Evoker and had not much issues topping folks up with a single heal just like before, but when I switched to Preservation, the same heals hit way, way less.

Just finished the Arthas lorewalking scenario on my level 20 paladin and the little cache you get from that contains this (excuse the German, please):

Maybe we can have a bit of fun with this before they fix it.

I'm starting to feel the same way with the more playing around I do, that tank and DPS specs function way better than the healing ones in almost all aspects; be it sustain, damage, or healing.

Spirit Heal is stuck where it was, at about 500, which is useless at 5000 hp. The belt heal is still good for a top up tho. Also they killed the tenacity cooldown by making it a flat 3% damage reduction. There are nice talents for bm, but not enough points. :'D

Still looking to see when TWW will become part of Chromie's time travel inventory, and when can F2P head to Khaz Algar? I"m guessing next week?

Probably once midnight actually releases

Keep in mind that blizz said that TWW will be reserved as a high level zone after DF so it will be DF or other zones to 70 and then TWW from 70-80

Some decisions continue to be a bit of head scratcher. Again, from level 20 perspective:

Prot Warrior's Whirlwind now hits harder than Revenge with the same rage cost. Should it be part of the rotation now?

Resto Shaman's Healing Surge has been removed (boo!), so we are to use longer cast Healing Wave in its place. But Healing Surge is still available to Elemental Shamans (heals much less compared to say, a Feral or Boomkin's Regrowth). Don't think I have ever seen an offspec ability that's not available to main spec before lol.

Some spec talents that are accessible on the talent tree, do absolutely nothing because they modify inaccessible class talents way down in the class talent tree, & vice versa.

All healers except Resto Shaman no longer have interrupts.

Also please check if talents are working properly. I detected Passing Seasons not working for Resto Druids.

Before today "patching" one of my F2P characters was able to get into the housing area and brought the lumberjack item. Before only the retail account with TWW applied worked for a non-Midnight character to visit the housing area.

Before the patch I just revenged once to apply a bleed to everything then just used WW for the rest of the rotation (with additional revenges to reapply bleeds), simply because WW had more hits per use which meant more chances to proc lifestealing.

I wonder if Mark of the Shattered Hand on one of dual-wield options would be interesting now for more bleeding?

Ah that makes sense. I had no Prot Warrior experience whatsoever before Lemix, so WW was off my bar when I started.

If I'm not wrong, Revenge will continue to be used sparingly only when it free procs, with WW the main AoE spender. Bleeds only via Rend talent, also activated via Thunderclap.

my 10s seem to be doing okay damage, not awful, but the hits they take are spikier than before. most of my gear appears to be 13 i think? i dunno this was a few hours ago.

My fury warrior is stronger now then in pre patch ( lvl 20 ) With an ilvl 37 cudgel its not uncommon for me to hit 1200 melee auto hit crits. 2k blood thirsts and 2k raging blows. My dps is usually around 1100-1300 right now lol. Might help that I also have a vibro blade for armour pen.
Crusader is still healing for a lot as well around 400-450 hp per proc so its way better then life stealing now.

What am thinking about doing since the ilvl changes are making lvl 15 crafted gear ilvl 18 is to make a lvl 15 warrior.
farm a rare or epc cudgel
Make a phantom blade
Make some mop plate pvp gear.
and see how that goes in dungeons.

not in LW, i went to a WOD dungeon with ooze which worked in SL time that i cleared last week, today it does not work hits for 6-11 damage and trash was serious chore did not try a boss. i have not tried DF or current time with chromie. which will change if blizz adds TWW to the base game
