This whole veteran account thing, has it basically given us micro transactions? Like, can I upgrade, move a character to a different realm, and be good once the sub ends?
Also, I am linked, does re-subbing my p2p account (currently lapsed) mean I can send stuff to my f2p account via mail? Or do I have to sub both to do that?
Here's how things work: Your F2P account cannot (and will not) be able to do anything new or different in 6.1. You'll have all the same restrictions you have now, and you won't be able to take advantage of the new veteran account unless you upgrade your game to the full game. Once you buy the battle chest for that license, you will be granted 1 month free game time and have all your restrictions lifted so long as you have an active sub. This means you can do all the things normal players can do such as get stuff from your mail, use the AH, form groups with other players, join guilds, trade, have more than 10 gold, access helm/neck/cloak/pants BoAs, buy all the old JP/Honor BoAs for gold, ect.
If at any time you decide to let your sub lapse for that license, you will not have access to any characters above level 20, and all the same restrictions F2Ps have will be put into place as if you are a F2P. You can still play your level ~20 toons like any F2P would, but you'll get to keep all the stuff you had before your account time ran out. This means you can literally pay just to acquire all the stuff a P2P would have in terms of gear and enchants, let your sub lapse, and have the ability to compete with other P2P players in pvp.
In fact, I'm curious to see how the scaling ends up when a level 20 has access to all the same gear and chants as a normal player.
And yes, if you decide you want to make new 20s later on, you can always pay for a month of game time to acquire all the things you want to get before letting your sub lapse again.
In essence, micro transactions.
