Mithraism would be contemporary with Christianity, not something Christianity came afterwards and stole (in fact, the Advent story would have taken place a couple of decades before Mithraism appeared) ... and I'm pretty sure most modern scholars (and ancient ones for that matter) called it a counterfiet of Christianity that the Romans could get behind.
