Mage - Glyph help

I'm in the final step in the process of getting my Mage ready to rock in the EU-scene, got my hands on MHotD (cheers Fia) and until I get satchel-loot I have good shit to rumble with.

Now, the spec is nailed and with going Frost the choice of glyphs is not that easy, considering the glyphs we have available.

The evident major glyph is the almighty Glyph of Evocation. Getting all four Evo-ticks off is around 1400 HP and about 1800 Mana. The corresponding minor glyph is hands down the Glyph of Slow Fall.

At level 39 we get a second major glyph, and at my disposal I have:

Glyph of Mage Armor - mana-regen is always amazingly nice, but the other Armor is too good to pass out on with chill-effects and Frostbite.

Glyph of Ice Block - enhances Ice Block greatly when put in a tight spot by a Rogue... but nothing more. Unless you feel like using IB as a second Cold Snap for fast Novas.

Glyph of Mana Gem - 4-5% of your total mana pool (counting full Evo, Mana Gem and mana pool of around 3200)

Glyph of Blink - 5 yards on any class is wonderful, but hardly gamebreaking.

Glyph of Icy Veins - A Human with a trinket, AGM, Tidal and an EA-effect usable twice every arena? Tempting.

Glyph of Scorch - Personally, I find myself using Scorch a lot as Frost as well due to that it allows mobility, whereas if I need to snare I'll throw around R1 Frostbolts. I use it more than I should, but if I then use it, should I improve its damage?

Glyph of Remove Curse - Wow. It'll make me immune to CoA/CoEX for 4 seconds. Damn.

Glyph of Arcane Explosion - Lower mana cost of AE... Not really worth considering it.

Glyph of Arcane Missiles - Meh.

Glyph of Fire Blast - I don't plan on running Rogue/Mage a lot, which puts that off.

Glyph of Polymorph - Only good if you're uncoordinated.

The ones I consider are... Ice Block, Mana Gem, Icy Veins and Scorch. Help me out, please.

IMO IB, IV, and Scorch are the best. Leaning mostly towards IV and scorch. The 240ish+ mana from mana gem glyph isn't THAT game changing when u already got 3k

You should just do arenas and find out what suits your play style.

Sounds to me like you scorch a lot and the 20% extra dmg is nice. Being a frost mage you already have nice survivability plus you'll mostly do IB twice and IV 2-3 times in a game

You might even use cold snap right before you IB (I know most do, and I for instance try to delay using prep as long as possible, so I might get my CDs ready again without using prep) And if you do, your frost nova is already reset when you do a cold snap IB.

The IV one sure has its advantages and might actually change some fights. Sucks to blink a kidney or w/e only to be cached again (since you might be slowed before you blinked), with this glyph you can use IV right after you blink and get away. But, as mentioned earlier, you do already have nice survivability and using IV to get away means you don't necessarily have IV when you wanna burst.

IMO after thinking it trough, if you use scorch as much as I think you do, go for the extra dmg, else go for the IV glyph

Hopefully youre going frost because you strictly arena, because if youre playing battlegrounds and youre not Fire youre doing something wrong.

can you link your talent calculator? Kinda interested in a few things considering you using scorch as much as it looks

@Fia: Yea... I don't know yet.

@Med'an: I don't use Cold Snap before my Ice Block, simply because I know that I will need to use Ice Block twice. I'm 0 points in Fire, but Scorch when I don't need to snare for a few seconds adds mobility.

@Falaris: My spec is mainly for arenas and solo-play due to the state of 39 in EU at the moment. Anyhow, how does that relate to my question what so ever?

Yes ofc not, I dont use prep before my first vanish either, but I often use prep to be able to vanish the 2. time if its on CD and 90% of the time it is.

There are situational uses for Cold Snap though, as is there for Prep.

Yes, not saying anything against cold snap. But the IB glyph. If you do like me and most other and wait til using cold snap until you absolutely need (90% chance its IB) you wil also reset the CD on your frost nova. So how good is the glyph, gaining the use mostly 1 time a fight

Before I use IB I might have used Nova that got trinketed. When I get out of the Block, I might die without Nova. Alive > Dead. There are pros and cons to everything.

I used glyph of mana gem and evoc, I think they are essential for arena. There is no such thing as enough mana. Personally, until all players are communicating well with each other, glyph of Poly might be pretty damn important.

Thanks Seff, all I needed was someone with brains backing me up on the Mana Gem-glyph. That sealed the deal for me.

I'd suggest you go Evo+Sheep

you always need to switch target at some point in fights vs good players, and you don't want your major cc to be wasted on a dot. As a mage you'll probably go to arena with a dps, and lots of dps-es have dots. And switching, when needed, it's probably the fastest thing you have to do in arenas, with sheep glyph, youre worries are over.

For minor glyph, if you have imporved fire ward, i'd suggest glyp of fire ward. Tho glyph of slow fall gives a free extra buff.

But for major glyphs, i'd definitely go Sheep+Evo

Mage comps should be synchronised, one target (in most cases) should be undotted and free for CC anyhow. Although in most situations that´s probably not going to be the case.
