part one: Why DF is different than SL.
SL twinks lived in BFA. They were locked at 50. What made 50s different was that the original content (BFA) was for the most part fully available. Once the "cheats" were nerfed (SL gear) the 50s were free to work toward ilvl 140 (?) gear within the BFA original environment. This content took work. But unlike endgame content, all the content was there. To get top level gear (ie Visions 135 gear) it took real work and real time, just like it would have during BFA. But the content was there. There were no monthly tiered surprises. There were still cool-downs on crafting and delays on getting vessels, but it was a complete system. And it was fair.
In DF, the SL locked 60s do not have this environment. They cannot get PVP gear and they cannot get top gear in the poorly devolved manual dungeon and raid system. The top gear is 278 or 285 where previously it had been 304 and 311. In addition, what has consumed most 60 twinks is exploits. It was easier to get 350+ gear manipulating DF content and transfers than it was to earn original SL gear. The people who did not exploit were left with an environment which no longer was workable. They could no longer get 300+ gear. The result: exploiters were that much more powerful and unique and, it turns out, grandfathered.
That''s right. People that changed their minds (due no doubt to the scarcity of original SL gear) and went after the exploits, find it increasingly difficult and then eventually .... gone.
The changes after this week's patch may reveal more info about twinking at 60 in DF. The truth is however that since exploiters have been rewarded and true twinking (manipulating max gear within a system or original environment) has been penalized, the outcome is bleak.
