    Class Overview:

The Shaman is an extremely unique class, with gameplay that differs extraordinarily from other classes. While leather wearers, they can use a shield, allowing for more survivability than your average caster. The class is built off of several key components that work harmoniously together to create a near unstoppable force.

The first of them are the Shock Spells. The Shock Spells share a 6 second cooldown with each other, and thankfully Wind Shock (renamed Wind Shear, your new key interrupt) was removed from this cooldown. Earth Shock and Flame Shock are the ones available at 19, and each has its own use. You will primarily be using Flame Shock to apply a 16 second DoT, which will prevent bandaging, and keep rogues out of stealth. Idealistically, you will be using Earth Shock for damage between applications of the FS debuff.

Next is Gost Wolf. The introduction of this skill changed the 19 bracket completely. Ghost Wolf is an instant cast (talented) spell that increases your movement speed by 40%. While under the effects of GW, you can never be slowed below 100% movement speed. Also, you cannot be sapped by a rogue. If you are not currently healing or dealing damage (as long as you are outside) you should be in GW form. The only downsides to this ability are that it can be dispelled, and you can be hibernated / scare beast-ed.

Wind Shear is your next component. It is, plain and simple, the only ranged interrupt in the 19 bracket (excluding the Bat hunter pet). Be careful not to mash it when it is on CD and someone is casting, because 9 times out of 10 they will be watching your cooldown and you will be fakecasted.

Purge. Offensively dispels buffs. For god's sake, use it.

Last, but certainly not least, are your Totems. There are four types of totems, Air, Water, Fire, and Earth, the latter two being the ones available to you. Only one totem of each type can be active at one time. The totems you will be using most often are:

    Fire:

Searing Totem- Does periodic damage to single targets around you

    Earth:

Earthbind Totem- AoE, 50% slow- Dispellable

Tremor Totem- AoE, removes Fear on ticks, ticks every 3 seconds. ONLY AFFECTS PARTY MEMBERS!

Stoneclaw Totem- Taunts pets, induces a stun on players who aren't paying attention, bubbles you and your other totems.

Once put down, they cannot be moved except by recasting the totem into a new place. When you cast your totems, each element will fall in the same place relative to you.

    [Earth] [Fire]

    *****You

It is possible to stack them, one on top of the other, situations where this can be useful will be described later.

    II. Races

    Horde:

    Troll:

Trolls, in my opinion, are not the best race for a shaman, plain and simple. The haste may be useful if you intend to focus exclusively on healing, but will not help with damage much, as most of your casts are instants with long cooldowns.

    Racials:

    Berserking

Activate to increase attack and casting speed by 20% for 10 seconds. 3 minute cooldown. - Not extremely useful

    Regeneration

Increase health regeneration bonus by 10%. Also allows 10% of normal health regenerate during combat. - Again, not very useful

    Beast Slaying

5% damage bonus to Beasts. - Almost insignificant use against other Shaman FCs (in Ghost Wolf) and Druid FCs

    Throwing Weapon Specialization

Increase Throwing Weapon crit chance by 1%. - Useless

    Bow Specialization

Increase Bow crit chance by 1%. - Useless

    Da Voodoo Shuffle

Reduces the duration of all movement impairing effects by 15%. Trolls be flippin' out mon! - Useful to some extent, but since Ghost wolf will never allow you to be below 100% movement speed, it is not used to its full potential.

    Orc:

In my opinion, the second best race for a shaman. The racial is excellent for burst damage.

    Racials:

Blood Fury - instant - 2 min cooldown

Increases attack power by (Level*4)+2 and your spell power by (Level*2)+3. Lasts 15 seconds. - 15 seconds of 41 extra spellpower. I like it.

    Hardiness - passive

Duration of Stun effects reduced by an additional 15%. - Useful to a small degree, but there are really only 3 stuns in this bracket (HoJ, Charge, and Stoneclaw)

    Command - passive

Damage dealt by Death Knight, Hunter and Warlock pets increased by 5%. - Useless

    Axe Specialization - passive

Expertise with Axes, Two-Handed Axes and Fist Weapons increased by 5. - Useless

    Tauren:

The tauren is the best pick. Although, between Tauren and Orc, it often comes down to personal preference.

    Racials:

    War Stomp
    - active - 0.5 sec cast - 2 min cooldown

Stuns up to 5 enemies within 8 yards for 2 seconds. - AoE stun and another interrupt. Very useful.

    Endurance
    - passive

Base Health increased by 5%. - Who would say no to 5% extra base health? :D

    Cultivation
    - passive

Herbalism skill increased by 15. - Eh..

    Nature Resistance
    - passive

Reduces the chance you will be hit by Nature spells by 2%. - Very useful against other shaman, and against druids. This effects Roots and Earthbind totem as well as other damage spells.

    Alliance

    Draenei:

Your only choice as an ally, but at least the racials are excellent.

    Racials:

    Gift of the Naaru

Activate to heal your target for 35 + 15 per level over 15 sec - 40 yd range - instant cast - 3 min cooldown. The amount healed is increased based on the caster's Spell Power or Attack Power, whichever is highest. - Quite an OP heal, depending on your spell power / attack power

    Heroic Presence

Increases chance to hit by 1% for you and all party members within 30 yards. (Now applicable to all classes). - 1% hit you don't need to gear for

    Gemcutting

5 point skill bonus to Jewelcrafting (note, this also raises the cap by 5 at each level of jewelcrafting). - Eh..

    Shadow Resistance

Reduces chance to be hit by Shadow spells by 2%. - Very good, shadow damage and binary spells are very prominent in WSG at 19.

After you have made your choice of a race, its time to level and gear! Just remember to do your totem quests (my 80 shaman didn't have Air and Water totems until the mid 70s. Don't forget to do your quests like I did!)

    III. Professions

    Engineering
    - 8 stamina head slot, Bombs, Dynamite. Dynamite is bonus damage, Bombs are an AoE stun, and the 8 stam will hold you until your fishing hat.

My Rating: 8/10- While useful, many people decide to drop it after they obtain their Hat.

Herbalism- 700 health, non-dispellable HoT. Scales with Health.

    My Rating: 10/10- Get it.

Skinning- 9 Crit rating, averages to about 3% crit.

My Rating: 6/10- It helps, but there are better options.

Mining- 7 stamina. Free health pretty much

My Rating: 6/10- Its really a tossup, if you think you need it, go for it.

Alchemy- Mixology, 50% increased effect from elixirs you can make, gives you a free 5 hit rating (for when you use elixirs of minor accuracy)

My Rating: 5/10- The extra hit is unnecessary, but can be useful for a little bonus spellpower if you use those elixirs.

Jewelcrafting- Stone Statues that heal you over time

My Rating: 4/10- They share a cooldown with warlock health stones, and are not entirely useful. If you want to try it out, go for it.

    IV. Offensive Gear and Spec

    Spec

The 3 points in Imp Healing Wave can be spent elsewhere if you really don't heal, but that is definitely the best place for them.

Glpyhs: [ITEM]Glyph of Stoneclaw Totem[/ITEM] - A Bubble. Get it.

You can pick up the Ghost Wolf minor glyph if you want, not a huge difference but it helps the health regen in GW form.

Gear will be listed in order from best to worst (it is my opinion, some of it is based on personal preference)

    Head:

    [ITEM]Lucky Fishing Hat[/ITEM]

Rating- 10/10 - This makes the twink;)

    [ITEM]Green Tinted Goggles[/ITEM]

Rating- 8/10 - It will hold you until you get your hat

    [ITEM]Shadow Goggles[/ITEM]

Rating- 3/10 - The int is definitely not worth it, but if you want to try it, go for it!

    [ITEM]Hooded Cowl[/ITEM]

    Rating- 1/10 - Yay 30 armor

Enchants- There are no available head enchants post-3.1

    Neck:

    [ITEM]Sentinel's Medallion[/ITEM] / [ITEM]Scout's Medallion[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - 6 Agility provides some armor and dodge, along with the 2 stamina.

    [ITEM]Thick Bronze Necklace[/ITEM]

Rating: 9/10 - 1 extra stamina, if you truly and utterly think the 10 health will benefit you more than the 6 agility, by all means, go for it.

    Shoulder:

Aged Pauldrons of The Five Thunders

    Binds to account

    Shoulder Leather (to Mail)

    69 Armor

Equip: Experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests increased by 10%.

Rating: 10/10 - Lose 1 spellpower, gain 1 int 1 stam 1 mp5, a real tossup. Depends on how lazy you are with badge farming.

    [ITEM]Talbar Mantle[/ITEM]

Rating- 8/10 - A good amount of int and stam

    [ITEM]Reinforced Woolen Shoulders[/ITEM]

Rating: 8/10 - Spell power for the BoA-less

Enchants- There are no effective shoulder enchants post-3.1

    Cloak:

    [ITEM]Spidersilk Drape[/ITEM]

Rating- 10/10 - 4 hit, 4 stam, and spell power? Sounds good to me.

    [ITEM]Tumultuous Cloak[/ITEM]

...of the Sorcerer- 4 stamina 4 intellect 4 spell power

Rating: 6/10 - Not a very good trade off, 4 hit for 4 int. Try it out if you want, but your first missed purge will bring you back :p.

    Enchants-

10 Shadow Resistance- My personal favorite.

15 Nature Resistance- Pesky roots, earth binds, and wind shears.

5 All Resistances- Jack of all Trades, master of none.

70 Armor- If you feel you get beaten upon by melee a little too often, try this one out.

    Chest:

    [ITEM]Inferno Robe[/ITEM] *HORDE ONLY*

Rating- 10/10 - 19 spellpower, most you can get in a chest slot. Plus its BC enchantable ^.^

    Mystical Vest of Elements

    Binds to account

    Chest Leather (to Mail)

    92 Armor

    +5 Stamina

    +5 Intellect

    Requires level 1 to 80 (19)

Equip: Restores 3 mana per 5 sec.

Equip: Increases spell power by 7.

Equip: Experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests increased by 10%.

Rating: 9/10 - A good amount of stats, definitely more balanced than the robe.

    [ITEM]Tree Bark Jacket[/ITEM]

Rating: 7/10 - A stat chest, try it out, but I really recommend using one of the above two.

    [ITEM]Blackened Defias Armor[/ITEM]

Rating: 5/10 - Extra Stamina if you need it.

    Enchants:

+6 All Stats (Inferno Robe only) - Adds stats to the robe, balances it out.

+150 Health (Inferno Robe only) - 150 Extra health, not bad but I prefer 6 stats.

+4 All Stats - Best enchant for your non-robe chest.

+100 Health - If you feel you need the extra health, use this.

+100 Mana - Not necessary, but again, see how it works for you if you want.

    Bracers:

    [ITEM]Crystalline Cuffs[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - Good balance of stats with some spellpower.

    [ITEM]Wrangler's Wristbands[/ITEM]

...of the Eagle - 3 Stamina, 3 Intellect - More balance statwise, but you lose spellpower.

    Rating: 9/10

... of Healing- 6 Spellpower - A little more spellpower, but you sacrifice stats.

    Rating: 6/10

...of Nature's Wrath - 7 Nature Spell Damage - yay earth shock?

    Rating: 2/10

    Enchants:

+15 Spellpower - The preferred enchant.

+9 Stamina - If you feel low on health, throw this on there.

    Gloves:

    [ITEM]Jutebraid Gloves[/ITEM] *HORDE ONLY*

Rating: 10/10 - If you are horde and use Gold-Flecked or Serpent over these, you are bad =P.

    [ITEM]Gold-flecked Gloves[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - If you are alliance.

    [ITEM]Magefist Gloves[/ITEM]

Rating: 8/10 - You gain a little stam, but lose spellpower. Grab a pair and see how they work out for you.

    [ITEM]Scouting Gloves[/ITEM]

...of the Eagle - 4 Stamina, 4 Intellect - Alternative to Magefists, pick up a point of stamina and lose a point of intellect.

    Rating: 8/10

    Enchants:

    +16 Spellpower - Preferred enchant.

+10 Haste - If absolutely no enchanter has 16 spellpower on your realm (lolcoilfang).

+20 Fire Spell Power - Please don't do it...

    Waist:

    [ITEM]Girdle of the Blindwatcher[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - Excellent stats for the belt slot.

    [ITEM]Vigorous Belt[/ITEM]

...of the Vision - 8 Spell Power, 4 Intellect, 2 Stamina - Also very nice stats, really can't go wrong with this belt.

    Rating: 10/10

Which one you use comes down to luck and to playstyle. If you feel you are lacking stamina, go with the girdle. If you are lacking spell power, go with the satchel belt.

    Legs:

    [ITEM]Darkweave Breeches[/ITEM]

    Rating: 10/10 - Excellent Stats.

    [ITEM]Scouting Trousers[/ITEM]

...of the Eagle - 5 Stamina, 5 Intellect - A good alternative, and a way to pick up some stamina if you are lacking.

    Rating: 9/10

...of Healing - 9 Spell Power - If you are all right on stats, might as well pick up some SP here since you can.

    Rating: 8/10

    Enchants:

+40 Armor - Have a higher level apply it then mail it over.

    Feet:

    [ITEM]Spidersilk Boots[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - Loads of spell power, and good stats to match.

    [ITEM]Footpads of the Fang[/ITEM]

Rating: 5/10 - A little extra stamina, but the agility doesn't help you as much as the int and spell power from Spidersilk.

    Enchants:

Minor Speed - Always the best option

7 Stamina - Some people swear that Shaman do not need Minor Speed due to Ghost Wolf, so they use this. Its up to you.

    5 Hit - See above.

    Rings:

    [ITEM]Seal of Sylvanas[/ITEM] *HORDE ONLY* /

    [ITEM]Seal of Wrynn[/ITEM] *ALLIANCE ONLY*

Rating: 10/10 - Almost best in slot rings, the alliance one being better. The seal can be dropped for others once you are ok on stamina.

    [ITEM]Advisor's Ring[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - Stamina and Spell Power, a great ring to use.

    [ITEM]Lavishly Jeweled Ring[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - Hit Rating and Intellect, it's your decision to use it over the others.

    [ITEM]Bronze Band of Force[/ITEM]

Rating: 6/10 - 6 spell power, not the best ring but viable if you want to totally stack spell power.

    Enchants:

    I wish

    Trinkets:

    [ITEM]Arena Grand Master[/ITEM]

Rating: 11/10 - Good lord, this thing is amazing.

    [ITEM]Insignia of the Alliance[/ITEM] / Horde

Rating: 10/10 - Must have, get the BoA one if possible.

    Discerning Eye of the Beast

    Binds to account

    Trinket

    Requires level 1 to 80 (19)

Equip: Increases spell power by 7.

Equip: Restores 2% of your maximum mana whenever you kill a target that yields experience or honor.

Rating: 9/10 - Free mana, and 7 extra spellpower. Useful until you get your AGM or if your Insignia is on cooldown.

    [ITEM]Minor Recombobulator[/ITEM]

Rating: 4/10 - Free heal and mana, situational at best.

    Weapons:

There is a lot of controversy over which weapon a shaman should use, I will list the viable ones along with their enchants.

    Devout Aurastone Hammer

    Binds to account

    Main Hand Mace

    28 - 52 Damage Speed 2.70

    (15 damage per second)

    [ITEM]Dawnblade[/ITEM] *HORDE ONLY*

    Enchant: 22 intellect

    [ITEM]Razor's Edge[/ITEM]

    Enchant: 20 Spirit

You have many choices, and my reccomendation is to pick them all up, enchant them, and see how they are used. 22 intellect weapons will obviously be what you start out in, switching to 30 spellpower, then 20 spirit when OOM.

    Shields:

    [ITEM]Deadskull Shield[/ITEM] *HORDE ONLY*

Rating: 10/10 - Most health for a shield slot.

    [ITEM]Arctic Buckler[/ITEM]

Rating: 9/10 - Used by alliance in place of deadskull, also by horde as a regen shield.

    [ITEM]Forest Buckler[/ITEM]

Rating: 7/10 - 4 intellect, most on a shield. Useful if you feel you run OOM too often.

    Enchants:

    +7 Stamina - Easy, 70 health.

+4 Mana and Health per 5 Seconds - Throw this on your regen shield

    V. FCing Gear and Spec

There may be a time where you are called upon to FC. Will you be prepared?

Use the same spec as the offensive one.

    Head:

    [ITEM]Lucky Fishing Hat[/ITEM]

    Rating: 10/10 - Obvious.

    [ITEM]Green Tinted Goggles[/ITEM]

Rating: 8/10 - If you don't have your hat.

    Neck:

    [ITEM]Sentinel's Medallion[/ITEM] / [ITEM]Scout's Medallion[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - 6 Agility provides some armor and dodge, along with the 2 stamina.

    [ITEM]Thick Bronze Necklace[/ITEM]

Rating: 9/10 - 1 extra stamina, if you truly and utterly think the 10 health will benefit you more than the 6 agility, by all means, go for it.

    Shoulders:

    Mystical Pauldrons of Elements

    Binds to account

    Shoulder Leather (to Mail)

    69 Armor

    +6 Stamina

    +4 Intellect

Equip: Restores 1 mana per 5 sec.

Equip: Increases spell power by 5.

Equip: Experience gained from killing monsters and completing quests increased by 10%.

Rating: 10/10 - Most stamina in a shoulder slot for Shaman.

    [ITEM]Talbar Mantle[/ITEM]

Rating: 9/10 - If you don't have BoAs

    Cloak:

    [ITEM]Tumultuous Cloak[/ITEM]

...of Stamina - 8 Stamina - BiS stamina cloak.

    Rating: 10/10

    Enchants:

10 Shadow Resistance- My personal favorite.

15 Nature Resistance- Pesky roots, earth binds, and wind shears.

5 All Resistances- Jack of all Trades, master of none.

70 Armor- If you feel you get beaten upon by melee a little too often, try this one out.

    Chest:

    [ITEM]Toughened Leather Armor[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - Most stamina in a chest slot.

    Enchants:

+100 Health - The preferred enchant for FCing.

+4 All Stats - Not as good in my opinion, useful though for 4 agility and 4 intellect, along with the stamina.

    Bracers:

    [ITEM]Wrangler's Wristbands[/ITEM]

...of Stamina - 5 Stamina - Most in a bracer slot.

Any stamina bracers will hold you until you get them.

    Enchants:

    + 9 Stamina - 90 more health, yay!

    Gloves:

    [ITEM]Scouting Gloves[/ITEM]

+16 Spell Power - Not as good in my opinion, but viable.

    Waist:

    [ITEM]Girdle of the Blindwatcher[/ITEM]

    - BiS Stamina and Intellect. You are shooting for stats in an FC build.

    Legs:

    [ITEM]Smelting Pants[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - Most Stamina, grab them =]

    [ITEM]Scouting Trousers[/ITEM]

...of the Eagle - 5 Stamina 5 Intellect - If you are low on intellect, you feel.

    Rating: 7/10

    Enchants:

+40 Armor - It can be applied to BoP items as well, look elsewhere for how to do that.

    Boots:

    [ITEM]Footpads of the Fang[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - Excellent stats for an FC, just remember the agility won't help you much if you don't back-strafe.

    [ITEM]Grizzled Boots[/ITEM]

Rating: 6/10 - Ok if you are trying for a max health set, but the 1 stam doesn't outweight the agility on the pads.

    Enchants:

Minor Speed - Always the best option

7 Stamina - Some people swear that Shaman do not need Minor Speed due to Ghost Wolf, so they use this. Its up to you.

    5 Hit - See above.

    Rings:

    [ITEM]Seal of Sylvanas[/ITEM] *HORDE ONLY* /

    [ITEM]Seal of Wrynn[/ITEM] *ALLIANCE ONLY*

Rating: 10/10 - Best in slot rings, the horde one being better.

    [ITEM]Blood Ring[/ITEM]

Rating: 10/10 - Most BoE stamina in a ring slot.

    [ITEM]Viridian Band[/ITEM]

...of the Eagle - 3 Stamina, 3 Intellect - Very seldomly used due to its rarity, but still a good alternative to the Blood Ring if you wanted to try it out.

    Rating: 9/10

    Weapon:

    [ITEM]Dawnblade[/ITEM] *HORDE ONLY*

Rating: 10/10 - Most stamina in weapon slot. Enchant with 22 intellect.

    Venerable Mass of McGowan

    Binds to account

    One-Hand Mace

    29 - 54 Damage Speed 2.80

    (15 damage per second)

    (0 feral attack power)

    +4 Stamina

    Requires level 1 to 80 (19)

Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 2 (0.68%).

Equip: Increases attack power by 4.

Rating: 10/10 - Trade 1 stamina for 3 agility. Throw 22 intellect on it.

    [ITEM]Smite's Reaver[/ITEM]

    Rating: 7/10 - For the non-BoA allies =[

    Shield:

    [ITEM]Deadskull Shield[/ITEM] *HORDE ONLY*

Rating: 10/10 - Most stamina, best shield for FCing. 7 Stamina enchant.

    [ITEM]Arctic Buckler[/ITEM]

Rating: 8/10 - Not as much stamina as the horde shield, but its the best the allies have. 7 Stamina enchant.

    Rating: 10/10 - Get 2.

    VI. Tips and Tricks

This section will be built upon due to member input.

    - Don't Keyboard Turn ;-)

    - You can drop your stoneclaw totem and immediately replace it with earthbind / tremor. The bubble stays.

    - You can position your totems so they stack perfectly on top of each other. If you stack your stoneclaw on the searing totem, you can get in a free stun if someone targets the wrong one by accident.

    - When you place your earthbind totem in a 1v1 situation, place your searing totem several yards away and kite around the earthbind totem in a circle. If you place them right next to each other, it is easy to kill them both within seconds. While they walk to the searing totem to kill it, it will grant more damage they can do nothing about.

    - When dropping earthbind with means to slow many people, try to put it somewhere obscure so that people will need to look for it before it can be killed.

    - Be greatful that there are no more totem-stomping macros!

    Useful Macros:

More will be added in the future

    Wind Shear Macro:

    #showtooltip Wind Shear

    /stopcasting

    /cast Wind Shear

It allows you to easily stop casting and use your wind shear interrupt. Use it often.

    Wind Shear Focus

    #showtooltup Wind Shear

/cast [target=focus, exists] Wind Shear; Wind Shear

Will wind shear your focus if you have one, otherwise will wind shear normally. You can add a modifier if you want.

    Some macros from Kablam (Billow)

    kablam said:

    /cast Purge

    /cast cure Toxins

    /cast [target=focus] Purge

    #showtooltip

    /cast [target=focus] Healing Wave

    #showtooltip
(Since they dont share a GCD)

    /cast Ghostwolf

    /cast Windshear

    /cast Ghostwolf

    #showtooltip
    (I dont reccomend using this)

    /castsequence Flame Shock, Earth Shock

I guess you can also use a mouseover healing wave as well but I really dont find it useful seeing that I just use the addon healbot.

    Hey great guide!

I'm making my 3rd twink I play as an Orc Shaman:), my guild wants me to be on their D(defense, protecting the FC) team as a Mana Whore (Throw in healings when every I get a chance too, not totally necessary. CC as much as possible, Wind Shear / Purge as much as possible just to piss them off). I've been having tons of trouble with what gear to get. Could you PM me or simply reply a good gear for this? if not, maybe some of the ppl who have shamans and can give me a simply list of gear to get :>. tyvm<3

I actually meant to add them, but totally forgot to. Thanks I'll add them in soon.
